So given that, should I keep Byron Buxton at $47 pending arbitration? We have a $500 budget. I should note that we use a system similar to Ottoneu's so stolen bases are weighted down and so Buxton is worthless. Thanks! (Elton from Pacific Northwest)	The boring answer is that it completely depends on whether you'd have a better use of that money. If you're taking and will have money to spare, I don't think it's a terrible decision to roll the dice on Buxton to see if he breaks out in 2020 and you can flip him for future assets. But, no, I don't think you would feel bad about cutting Buxton at that price point. I wouldn't be holding onto him, if it were me, but there's an argument for it if you have money to burn. (JP Breen)

(Mike from Saint Paul)	Marwin Gonzalez hit cleanup yesterday against a left-handed pitcher. The hitters behind him in the Twins' lineup were C.J. Cron, Max Kepler, Ehire Adrianza, Jake Cave, and Byron Buxton. Kepler and Cave are lefties. Adrianza is a poor hitter. Buxton has hit ninth all year and has also often been a poor hitter. I suppose you could have flipped Gonzalez and Cron, but there's no real impact there. (Aaron Gleeman)

My second best hitter is either Byron Buxton or Avisail Garcia so Yordan seemed expendable to me. Did I do well here? (Aaron from Minnesota)	I like Williams in deep leagues (it's not clear to me how deep the league is here), and uh, I'm not sure Avisail Garcia is a good reason to declare anyone expendable, so I'm not sure about the logic. It's fine, I guess. Alvarez has been a freak at the plate this year in Triple-A, and while I think it might be "fine" for you, I think there's more downside than upside going forward. So let me just generally say that I am hopeful that the Twins stop screwing around with Buxton. There have been a lot of changes there--new front-office and on-field personnel in leadership roles--and one would hope that they either give him the CF job or send him somewhere else. There's a lot to be concerned about, of course, but he's flashed way more talent than, say, Billy Hamilton, and Hamilton's going to make at least $5.25 million this year from Kansas City. I expect his legs and glove to compensate for what could be only a league average-ish bat, making an overall decent ballplayer. (Rob Mains)

Good deal for me, or does quality > quantity win out? (Dominic from San Diego)	That a tough call Dominic given Senzel's helth struggles this season. While the finger surgery is one thing, the vertigo problem is something else. He did seem to make a recovery from that vertigo briefly before the finger injury, but you never know about something like that. If you are in a rebuild, it's nice to get three young-ish players for one, but Buxton and Franco are not such legitimate guys on which to build. They are depth pieces at best. Comes down to Bauers versus Senzel. Personally, I'd keep Senzel or look for a better deal for him. (Scott Delp)

(LucasDad from MN)	Hell yes, Byron Buxton is hitting .324/.369/.532 since July 1st and it's hard not to be excited. He's a heck of a player even at a .250 batting average...if he can hit .280+, you're looking at a star. The key to Buxton's success is that, to put it simply, he's playing like Byron Buxton. We all knew this guy had otherworldly talent, and the Twins stuck with him until the results started to translate. On a mechanical level, an aggressive leg kick has been drastically toned down and you can't argue with the results. Common sense tells us he won't keep hitting like this, but Buxton's finally found his groove and there's no telling if/when he'll slow down. Sure, there will be slumps, but Buxton's arrived and it's fun to watch. (Ben Diamond)

(gary from the bottom)	Has Buxton been a disappointment this season? Obviously. His six steals are nice if you need speed in your lineup, but he's been a pretty big drain everywhere else. I'm not entirely ready to give up on Buxton though. His walk rate has crept above 10 percent this season, which is a positive sign. Also, he's been a lot better in May than he was to start the season. He's still just 23 years old, and if the Twins are willing to be patient it's possible he could grow quite a bit over the next 2-3 seasons. His defense in center is going to be a valuable asset, and if he can get on base more his speed will be a weapon. Sounds like a player we discussed above. Also, Acuna already weighed in at #31 on BP's global list, so it seems like he's already there. (John from CT)	If we are just looking at the offense, I'd take Benintendi easily. Buxton is still a very good defender in CF so that helps, but I don't think enough to get him past Benintendi. What I do think is it is just another reminder at how the prospect and internet age has blinded the minor league follower to the patience and attrition that is omnipresent in player development. Buxton has every tool in the book--remember before he just out-tool'd everyone in sight, how people thought it actually might have been a long development path for a rural Georgia athlete? Maybe we can take the glass-half-full view here (admittedly, maybe this is trying to stay rosy) and say that they weren't wrong--it will be a longer path to him polishing up--but the good news is he was just talented enough he didn't start the actual growing pains themselves until he got closer to the big league level. I hope that he's able to find more consistency and tap into that hit tool. He's got a chance to be a special player. Will be interesting to see if he has a Melvin Upton trajectory (just in on-field stats, nothing else) or if the stars align and he's an on-base threat with power, impact speed, and valuable defense. There's a feeling that, for a star talent, a demotion to the minors is worse than just being in the minors; that it's sort of like having to sell your houses in monopoly at a discount and then buy them back at full price. Which is why teams don't like to bring their best prospects up until they're ready to stay. But I don't know if that applies for a guy who has already spent two long stints in the majors and might be burning over the demotion every day he's down there. I haven't looked to see if it's a potential service time situation, but I guess they probably have something other than slash line that he's "working on" or focusing on, and that lets them give him lots of positive reinforcement as he shows progress. However, I do think at some point health becomes an issue. I don't think it affects his value on the field necessarily, but staying healthy is largely a skill. Some players cannot keep themselves on the field for the grind of the season. I am not ready to say Buxton is an injury-prone player, but the trend is obviously going in the wrong direction. Just based on pre-draft scouting reports and without the benefit of hindsight, how would the first 10 picks of the draft unfold? It's probably better suited for an article than for a fantasy chat answer, but since I was able to access this question ahead of time, here's what I came up with after about 30 min of research. I'll note that since I'm not familiar enough with 2014 prospects yet, I've restricted your search to 2010-2013 draftees. I'll go with: 1. Bryce Harper 2. Manny Machado 3. Gerrit Cole 4. Dylan Bundy 5. Anthony Rendon 6. Jameson Taillon 7. Bubba Starling 8. Byron Buxton 9. Carlos Correa 10. Archie Bradley Toughest omissions for me were Francisco Lindor, Trevor Bauer, Kevin Gausman, Kris Bryant and Mark Appel. If Luc Giolito had been healthy for his senior year, he'd probably have made it on this list. Obviously that's not how we'd rank them now, and it's funny that guys like Chris Sale, Jose Fernandez, Matt Harvey and Javier Baez are left in the dust. I would have guessed the end of 2014 for Sano, but an injury to his throwing elbow puts his status up in the air for now. Sano has been shut down from baseball activities and will be reevaluated shortly. If he requires any kind of surgery, mid to late 2015 is a more likely guess. Byron Buxton could move fast, but he's very young and finished 2013 in High A ball. A less aggressive timetable has Buxton spend 2014 in Double-A, 2015 in Triple-AAA and open 2016 in the Twins outfield as a 22-year-old starter. A more aggressive timetable sees Buxton tear up Double-A to start 2014, has him promoted to Triple-A in the summer and starting in the Twins outfield in 2015. My guess is that Buxton is probably in the Twins outfield in August 2015 and never looks back, but this is only that - a guess. What winds up happening with Buxton depends on his performance. If he rips it up this year, an August 2014 promotion wouldn't surprise me in the least. Buxton is that good that he could be in the Majors as a 19-year-old. (Mike Gianella)

There are the rare prospects that I like to hang onto unless I'm overwhelmed (think Byron Buxton or Mike Trout in his prospect days) but anyone beneath that elite tier is the kind of player that I'll move if I can get talent to win now. In most keeper leagues, you can replenish your farm system relatively easily, and there is some randomness to who emerges and who doesn't. Stats should come before potential, generally speaking. There's potential for power, average and above-average defense and arm strength in center field (to go along with big time speed in the field and on the bases). The catch is that, like many high school draftees, he's still in the early stages of development. Frazier is a big time talent in his own right, but just isn't at Buxton's level as an athlete. That said, Frazier may be more adept at getting play out of his present tools and has the potential to be a a less physical, but likewise impactful talent. Frazier is relatively new to the outfield, so he gets dinged some for his defense, but there's a chance he sticks in center and could equal or surpass Buxton's offensive output. (Nick Faleris)
