2021-04-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Javier has enough upside still to make everyone look like fools for doubting Dusty after all these years. (Jesse Roche)
2020-09-25 16:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Wander Javier and what's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Hi Dusty. Which anagram do you like better: Java Wire Nerd, or Jive Drawn Ear? Wander Javier's upside, and indeed, the future of the human species on Earth, depends on your answer. (Jon Hegglund)

Final question! Wander Javier, not Mike Trout or Juan Soto, is the GOAT. (Jesse Roche)
2020-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
I'm glad you asked, Dusty. His stock has slipped somewhat now that we've actually seen him play, but there's so much talent here that we have to see what he does with more reps. I still like him, but I'm no longer looking at him with as much love as I might have a year ago. (Mike Gianella)
2020-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier, what's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
The year is 2025. He struggled for a while, but now Javier is in the majors, mashing and just giving pitchers fits. As Cleveland keeps tearing it down and reducing the payroll, the AL Central rivalry is between the Twins and White Sox. Chicago's pitching has really developed, and their ace isn't Lucas Giolito but someone who was good but also someone who wouldn't have expected to be a top 5 pitcher in baseball. But as successful as he is, he just can't get Javier out. In every series, whether it's home or away, Javier just pummels White Sox pitching and especially this guy. On the last day of the regular season, Javier hits three home runs off this pitcher, knocking him out of the game and sending the Twins to the playoffs for the third year in a row. As he walks of the mound, a dejected scrum of White Sox fans can't help but ask themselves if the Wanders will ever Cease. (Mike Gianella)
2020-08-14 14:00:00 (link to chat)You ranked Wander Javier too low. Consider this a reminder that his will is stronger than your doubt. Always. Forever.
(Dusty from Colorado)
First in the Q. First in our hearts. (Jesse Roche)
2020-04-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)How has quarantine changed your thoughts on Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
A history of my Wander Javier chat takes:

1/24: As you well know, Wander Javier represents a dyad in the baseball force between Wander Franco and Javier Baez. Hence, the name.

2/14: His upside is such that all your tireless effort will be recognized throughout the industry and Dusty Colorado will be hailed as a prophet.

2/21: His upside is so high, I had to remove him from the Ceiling-Only Top 101 because it burned with the light of a thousand suns.

And today . . . his upside is so high, he will still break minor league single season hitting records despite the shortened season. (Jesse Roche)

2019-11-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)For all the teams rumored to be after elite free agents: wouldn't it make more sense to save the money and instead select generational prospect Wander Javier in the Rule 5 draft?
(Dusty from Colorado)
It's hard to know what sort of circumstance can break a man. Putting a 21-year-old who just posted an OPS of .601 in Single-A on a major league roster for a full season, though? It would seem to beckon the void. (Free Agent Chat w/Ginny Searle)
2019-11-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Wander Javier's will is stronger than your doubt.
(Dusty from Colorado)
It's truly not impossible he gets popped, I don't think! The Orioles just let the tides take them this year, maybe they steer into the skid further. (Free Agent Chat w/Ginny Searle)
2019-11-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)If the Red Sox get back Wander Javier in the Mookie Betts trade, everyone on this list shifts down 1. Sorry, I guess I didn't have a question.
(Dusty from Colorado)
Neither did too many others Dusty, which seems about right for this system. Yankees on Friday is our first really fun and good list at least. And it will be free to read for all. (Boston Red Sox Top 10 Chat)
2019-11-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)The Orioles are lacking a true generational prospect talent. They should trade for Wander Javier.
(Dusty from Colorado)
I appreciate the effort to make this Orioles relevant in the Orioles chat. (Baltimore Orioles Top 10 Chat)
2019-09-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)I run a 16 team dynasty league and we're wrapping up our eighth season. We've pretty much had the same 5-6 teams in the playoffs every year and it looks like the entire bottom half of the league is trying to tank, which would be fine except those same 5-6 competitive teams have cornered not just the old guy market, but also have a who's who of top young talent already. Just for the record: is "tanking" the only effective strategy to build a competitive fantasy team? And when will people realize that just because MLB teams do it doesn't mean you have to do it in your fantasy league too? Also, Wander Javier. What's his upside?
(Scott from Florida)
No, it's not the only effective strategy, but it's the easiest one which is why people do it. Snagging guys you think will be productive and spinning them off, or buying low/selling high is a lot more of an involved process, and takes more effort. I get why people don't want to do that or devote the brainpower but it does make the whole endeavor of being in a league a bit more boring, in my opinion. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-09-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier, what's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Haven't seen him, but Mr. Smith Brickner knows about him.

"He’s coming back from serious injuries and has exhibited terrible pitch recognition. But the contact is loud and there’s a chance he stays up the middle. Teams tend to be more patient with those guys." - Smith "Wander Javier Enthusiast" Brickner (Tyler Oringer)
2019-06-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Let's get this out of the way early so we can all enjoy the rest of the chat.Tell Dusty that Wander Franco has been promoted to High A and he still has high upside.
(rkessl from San Diego)
But Dusty (or maybe it's Fred from NY now), cares about Wander Javier, not Franco (Craig Goldstein)
2019-06-21 15:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier, what's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
His upside is to be a member of the Giants within a week or two as part of a Madison Bumgarner package. If this happens, Dusty, I promise you I will give you no less than a hundred words on Wander Javier. (Jon Hegglund)
2019-06-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)In a Dynasty league, if you're not competing this year do you think it's wise to target prospects for your rebuild. This is just my way of asking what are your thoughts on Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Carl from St Louis)
Ah, yes. These are my readers. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-06-05 21:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
I'm just extremely happy that he's back doing baseball things. In terms of his upside, somewhere between Sauron and Galadriel. (Mr. President Bret Sayre)
2019-06-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
he's got a higher ceiling than a fifteenth-century basilica, but you already knew that, didn't you Dusty? :P (Ginny Searle)
2019-06-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Dusty (Colorado)? What’s his upside?
(Wander Javier from SF)
consistent and repeatable delivery on the Wander Javier questions, though he may need to add a second question to the repertoire down the line if fascination with Javier's raw upside ceases to cut it! (Ginny Searle)
2019-06-12 20:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Hello Dusty. (Zach Crizer)
2019-05-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you guys just ignore that Dusty guy's questions now or did he just quit asking about Wander Javier every damn chat?
(Steve from Philly)
I ignore them, yeah. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-05-17 16:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
His upside is a future first round pick. I'd like to see him get some reps on the field, though. He's only 20 so it's way too early to call him injury-prone, but we're looking at 50 professional games and he hasn't played in the minors since 2017. (Mike Gianella)
2019-05-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier? Whats his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Javier's upside is massive, as is his risk profile. We have very little data to go on, and his injury history is problematic. His frame and skill set, though, could see him push into the top-50 prospects by next season. I personally targeted him in dynasty trades all offseason, as I did with Alex Kirilloff last winter. I'm hoping it pays off similarly. (J.P. Breen)
2019-05-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can you explain the Wander Javier meme to me? Because I... don't... get it.
(Alexandra from Seattle)
One guy asked every chat, no matter who was having it or if they'd have any insight on Javier, about Javier and what his status was even though he hasn't been active due to a shoulder injury. It's, uh, fun or something. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-05-20 12:00:00 (link to chat)Are you regretting your Wander Javier rank and write up yet? Seems like it's going to look pretty silly.

2019-05-20 12:00:00 (link to chat)I don't get the Wander Javier thing. I keep seeing stuff about he's a "generational prospect" but he's not on many list. What gives?

A new fighter has entered the arena (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-04-19 18:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier, what's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
End as we usually do...let's let him get back on the field. It's hard to evaluate a guy who hasn't played in 18 months. (Scott Delp)
2019-04-10 21:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier, what's his upside?

Hello Dusty. I haven't the foggiest. (Zach Crizer)
2019-04-12 16:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Darius, I've been meaning to have a heart to heart with you. My heart says Wander Javier's upside is generational superstar. What does your ticker say? Thank you, and I hope when this question gets answered on April 12th, that you are still competitive in your league. Good luck.
(Dusty from Colorado)
My heart says that long after we're all gone, these questions will still appear in chats somewhere - on eSports streams, perhaps, where Wander's grandson will be considered the world's best StarCraft 17 prospect. (Darius Austin)
2019-03-14 15:00:00 (link to chat)I don't remember if I already submitted a Wander Javier question to this chat? Did I ?
(Dusty from Colorado)
It doesn't look like it Dusty, no. Have you submitted to the retinal scan and supplied the flesh swatch, as per standard procedure? (Nathan Bishop)
2019-03-18 16:00:00 (link to chat)In a dynasty league where somehow somehow someone owns Wander Javier and I don't. Should I give up Mike Trout to get him? Javier passes the eye, name, and age test with flying colors while Trout is starting to smell like old fish. Do you agree with this analysis?
(Dusty from Colorado)
I do not agree with that analysis, but I empathize with your frustration at desiring what you cannot have. We call this "fantasy baseball" but it is intrinsic to the nature of fantasy that it never be fulfilled. We can never be happy. Good luck this year! (Jon Hegglund)
2019-03-15 16:00:00 (link to chat)Mr. Barry. It's important that you tell me 3 things right away. 1) Your favorite Thanksgiving Side that's OK to eat in March. 2) Meaning of Life 3) Wander Javier's upside. (if time is an issue, please just answer #3)
(Dusty from Colorado)
I have a lot of thoughts about this. I think it's always ok to eat anything whenever you want, regardless of season. Do you. I might make stuffing this weekend just because I can. Whatever. As far as the meaning of life, I think that's pretty self explanatory. You know.

Oops, sorry, didn't have a chance to get to #3. (Mark Barry)
2019-03-15 16:00:00 (link to chat)What's Wander Javier's upside?
(Dusty from Colorado )
Oops, I guess we do have time for one more.

He could be a stud. Dingers, runs, RBI, you name it. Retired number, a seat on in the Minnesota senate, the Wander Javier Award for Achievement in Upside? It's all in play. (Mark Barry)
2019-03-11 16:00:00 (link to chat)My favorite prospect is Red Sox wunderkind Trey Ball. Tell me more about TreyBae.
(Nick from North Carolina)
This is a weird favorite prospect, and I feel bad that I'm not going to be more excited. Then again, maybe this is just the tremendously underwhelming version of the Wander Javier bit. Becoming a two-way player is all the rage these days, so it'll be fun to watch that for a little while if he gets the chance, but so far he hasn't even pitched well enough to be a mop-up reliever, so I don't hold out much hope. (Darius Austin)
2019-03-11 16:00:00 (link to chat)Darius, my main man. Give me the scoop (ACTUALLY MAKE IT TWO SCOOPS), on Wander Javier. Thank you for your amazing and positive take in advance.

Salted caramel and straciatella (the best flavors). (Darius Austin)
2019-03-08 16:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier? What is his upside?

He's already better than Mike Trout and could also be MVP in the NFL and the NBA. (Kevin Jebens)
2019-02-06 21:00:00 (link to chat)I think I'm moving on from Wander Javier. What can you tell me about Shevron Newton?

We both know you're not, Dusty. Let's not kid ourselves. -BS (Dynasty 101 Chat w/ Ben Carsley and Bret Sayre)
2019-03-04 16:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Twins prospect Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dusty...Dusty...we'll end the chat with our obligatory Wander Javier/Dusty appearance. At this point, Dusty, you should start a Wander Javier website and do chats to answer all questions about him. You've gotten opinions from everyone and know more about him than anyone on earth. Let's let him get back on the field and take it from there...

Thanks everyone for coming by and asking great questions. I hope to chat with you again sometime soon. Until then you can send any questions directly to my twitter: @frugalscott. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks again! (Scott Delp)
2019-02-25 16:00:00 (link to chat)Who is someone outside the top 25 in prospects that could be a top 5 prospect next year?
(Tommy from Atlanta)
Wander Javier?

Really, I'm not a prospect guy. I wrote the comments for most of the Royals, so I'm biased toward MJ Melendez and Seuly Matias (aka right-handed Joey Gallo). (Jon Hegglund)
2019-02-18 16:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Twins prospect Wander Javier? What's his upside?

Hi Dusty. I admire your tenacity. I think he's easily the second best Wander in the minor leagues, and could potentially be the second best Wander in the big leagues someday. (Mark Barry)

(Dusty from Colorado)
Do any of you read Jeff Sullivan's chats over at FanGraphs? There was a guy, Bork, who led off all his chats by saying, "Hello, friend." Dusty, I am pronouncing your Wander Javier question the official kickoff of my chats henceforth. (Not that I'm going to answer it.) (Rob Mains)
2018-12-10 16:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier and his upside?

There is no upside for the player with infinite talent. (Darius Austin)
2018-12-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)How much training and referencing do you for Wander Javier? What's his upside? Thank you Mr. Grosnick.
(Dusty from Colorado)
I'm going to answer this question reading the words "Wander Javier" as "Baseball Prospectus". So thank you for this question.

The point of our reference and training department is to do a few things really well. First, we want to help our users understand the baseball concepts and statistics we talk about regularly. We also want you to be able to actually use the site and all of the cool stuff we provide as best we can. And we also want to help our authors, developers, and staff members communicate and collaborate while understanding those same things.

So when it came time to roll out our new DRC+ metric, I saw my job as to help create an entry point for people who want to understand it. I worked with Jonathan to create that video you can find at our new DRC+ Showcase page (https://www.baseballprospectus.com/drc-deserved-runs-created/) and the Introduction to DRC+ article explaining the concept and usage at a high level. We want you to know as much as we can about it. Going forward, I'll be trying to do some similar things as we delve into the details behind how it is built and what pillars make up the DRC framework.

We'll also be backtracking a little bit. We intend to do a similar thing with our DRA- metric, which is very similar to DRC+, but for pitchers. I want people to use WARP the same way they use the WAR metrics found at Baseball-Reference and Fangraphs, so we'll talk about that some too. And, with the help of the rest of the staff, we'll be revitalizing the site Glossary to make it more usable.

Most of all, we're going to thrive off feedback from our userbase. If there's something you don't understand, we'll try to explain it. If we don't understand it, we'll work until we do. If there's something you want to see in a certain way, we'll try it out. You can give me any feedback you've got. (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-12-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)Now that you read the question the way you wanted to read it. Could you please tell me what you think about Wander Javier's upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
(Still reading all instances of "Wander Javier" as "Baseball Prospectus".)

I think Wander Javier has tremendous upside. Almost unlimited upside. Nobody works harder than Wander Javier. And Wander Javier is filled with enormously talented people who do their best, oftentimes in part-time roles. The work that the statistical and operations and product development team put into Wander Javier is incredible, and now that the new owners are in place, I think you'll see even more forward momentum. 2019 is going to be a huge year for Wander Javier, with a lot of really interesting surprises. (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-12-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any thoughts on Wander Javier and his rebound year? What's his FANTASY upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Guess we'll start with the defending champ. In all seriousness, it depends on the shoulder and how he rebounds. As far as fantasy, his upside is everything we can dream about in our hearts and souls. (Mark Barry)
2018-12-04 21:00:00 (link to chat)Does Wander Javier project to break the DRC+ metric? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
If Bonds couldn't break it (and he hasn't) I'm pretty sure DRC+ can handle young Wander. However, he's off to a great start and will be fun to watch as he develops. (Jonathan Judge)
2018-12-12 17:00:00 (link to chat)What's Wander Javier's ultimate upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Mike Trout plus. (Mike Gianella)
2018-12-12 17:00:00 (link to chat)Any chance to expand upon the short entry in the Twins Top 10 about Wander Javier? Thanks.
(Dusty from Colorado)
He is going to save us from the scourge that is ourselves. Look in the mirror. There is a little Wander Javier in all of us. Yes, you. And you. And even you. We are all Wander Javier. Yet no one else can be Wander Javier. He is the chosen one. Thank you for attending my TED talk. (Mike Gianella)
2018-12-06 20:00:00 (link to chat)Since you're a part of the prospect team (and let's be honest, even if you weren't) it's my duty to ask you about Twins SS prospect Wander Javier. What is his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Shockingly, this was the first question in the queue. Constants are always good in life.

The upside of all teenagers is limitless, and Wander's birthday isn't until later in the month. (Jarrett Seidler)
2018-11-29 23:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier? What's his upside? 2018 Offseason edition (c)
(Dusty from Colorado)
Yunno, I'm actually going to answer this earnestly for a change, and my answer is that none of us really know much more than we did this time last winter. Front shoulder surgery sucks for hitters, and so does an entire season of lost development. (Wilson Karaman)
2018-12-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Wander Javier? Whats his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
That's pretty damn hard to say Dusty. He was raw both on offense and defense before the shoulder injury and now we have to see how the arm strength and power bounce back post-rehab.

Upside pre-injury was if he filled out his slight frame a bit, cleaning up the swing consistency, keeping the quick twitch and quality coordination, and all while sticking at SS. Big tools though if he comes back healthy. (Kevin Carter)
2018-11-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can I get your thoughts on Wander Javier? What is his upside? Thank you so much for these chats.
(Dusty from Colorado)
Twins list is Wednesday, Big Dust, no spoilers. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-09-10 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Darius! What can you tell me about Twins SS prospect Wander Javier. Do you like his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
I heard you were into Adonis Medina these days, Dusty. Or maybe Wander Franco. I think you should start telling us what you know about Wander Javier. Missing the year isn't great but I don't think it affects his significant upside much. (Darius Austin)
2018-09-10 14:00:00 (link to chat)Have you been keeping up with Season 20 of Big Brother this year? Crazy season so far!
(Tyler from Rossford, OH)
I have not. I also missed the previous 19 seasons. If you told me Wander Javier was in it, I know someone who would watch, though. (Darius Austin)
2018-08-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)You've talked about Wander Javier in previous chats, any update on his upside and outlook?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dude. You can't fool me. Wilson texted me from his hospital bed, where he was rushed after he passed out after hearing in his chat that you've moved on from Javier. You can't just *do* that kind of thing, Dusty. Anyway, I know a *little* about labrum tears (like the one with which Duggar was just diagnosed), and I think the prognosis for guys with *non-throwing* shoulder tears, like Javier, is excellent. And he's just 19. You shouldn't give up hope! (Rob Mains)
2018-08-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)You mentioned Wander Javier earlier in this chat and in previous ones. Can you sum up your thoughts on his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
We can keep this going a long time... (Rob Mains)
2018-09-18 19:00:00 (link to chat)Can I get an update on your thoughts on Wander Javier and his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Javier was shut down in May and I think I did one of these last in June or July. so it's the same old song. the injury doesn't impact his upside at all. Javier could be better than Royce Lewis. If everything breaks right for the Twins, they're going to have a hell of middle infield. (Mike Gianella)
2018-09-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's Wander Javier's upside?
(Craig G. from Formerly BP)
FINALLY a Wander Javier question...I think he's easily one of the three best Wanders currently in the minor leagues. If everything clicks, he could break into the top two, without a doubt. (Mark Barry)
2018-09-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)This chat is good. It would be barry good if you told me about Wander Javier's upside.
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dusty stays undefeated. (Mark Barry)
2018-09-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Kevin, what can you tell me about Twins SS Prospect, Wander Javier. What do you think of his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Ah, Dusty, you ol' reliable. Missed ya in my last chat! Losing all of 2018 puts his risk at an even higher level. Still a rather high ceiling, but the chance of making it is still pretty small. As the magic eight ball would say, "Ask again later." I'm sure you'll do so at the next chat! (Kevin Jebens)
2018-08-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)Did BP stop doing chats because of me? I hope not. I just want to know what you guys think of Wander Javier's upside. What do you think of Wander Javier's upside, Eddy A.?
(Dusty from Colorado)
... (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-08-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)You know the drill Eddy. Wander Javier info. Give me info....please. Upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Two different Dusty Qs. Get act together! (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-09-04 19:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Wander Javier and his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Not even the teenaged Wander with the highest ceiling!

Dusty, I'd love to have some good news for you, but shoulder surgeries are scary. Our own Mark Primiano has described shoulders as four muscles vaguely hoping to work in conjunction with each other. So, we'll see how the recovery goes. Before the surgery it sounds like he was one of the more fun Lotto Ticket Low Minors Guys out there, but this just piles more volatility on the volatility pyre. (Nick Schaefer)
2018-07-30 23:00:00 (link to chat)Im moving on from Wander Javier. What can I realistically expect from Adonis Medina?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Wait, WHAAAAAA??? You really needed to preface that with BREAKING and some of those little flashing light emojis, maybe a couple a them reggaeton horns for good measure. Jeffrey & Jarrett are your resident Medina guys, the latter just wrote him up in our "Just Missed" section of the mid-season top 50: https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/chat/ (Wilson Karaman)
2018-07-13 15:00:00 (link to chat)Wander Javier still > Wander Francoo Dont @ me
(Dusty from Colorado)
I think my order goes Wander Franco, Wander Javier, Wander Franco, Wander Franco. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-07-13 15:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think that a year from now we could be talking about Cristian Javier as a top 50 prospect, and the second best prospect with the last name Javier (behind Wander, obv).
(Josh from LF)
Wander Franco, Wander Javier, Cristian Javier. Man the next year of my chat queues are going to be miserable, (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-07-13 15:00:00 (link to chat)How close was Wander Javier to making the top 50?
(Rusty from Denver)
Wait a minute, you're not Dusty. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-07-10 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Eddy, I know you'r a huge Wander Javier guy like myself. What's the latest?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Still has that torn labrum, Dusty. I've lower than you think I am on Javier. Think he's average across the board and better in real life. (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-07-24 20:00:00 (link to chat) Can you give me a quick outlook on Twins superstar prospect Wander Javier, his timeline, upside, and profile?
(Dusty from Colorado)
The error bars are too big right now to guess at that. He has played 41 games as a professional, all in rookie ball. He suffered a season-ending injury in May, so nobody will see him play in affiliated ball until next spring. He turns 20 this offseason. He's a wait-and-see guy for me. (Scooter Hotz)
2018-07-24 20:00:00 (link to chat)Wander Franco is really gaining some helium. He's been compared to Juan Soto by some. What do you think his upside is?
(Dustier from Oklahoma)
He's 17 and raking while playing SS, so I guess his ceiling is Xander Bogaerts. 17-year-olds in rookie ball have a long way to go before they become Xander Bogaerts, though. I like him more than Wander Javier, who you also asked about, FWIW. Scouts seem to think that there's a good chance he won't stick at SS, so don't count on him playing there in the majors. He's young enough that we're not even sure how tall he'll be or what his body will look like in the majors. The Juan Soto comp seems generous. And odd, since Soto was a lefty corner outfielder. It's usually not a great idea to make comps to guys like Soto who reach the majors as teenagers and seem like they belong from day one. That's just an unrealistic bar to set. (Scooter Hotz)
2018-07-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)How much has Wander Javier's long term potential been affected by his injury?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dusty, it seems you should be the guy we all come to with Wander Javier questions rather than the other way around at this point. Torn labrums are not the best injury for shortstops. There is a chance this moves him to 2B. Not a huge deal, but something to consider. Let's see what happens when he comes back and see where he is. The tools should not have changed anywhere else. (Scott Delp)
2018-06-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Buy or sell Wander Javier as fantasy's top SS within 10 years from now.
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dusty has a long and established history of asking Wander Javier questions. I have a long and established history of not knowing anything about prospects or fantasy. Sorry, Dusty! Besides, he's hurt, right? I think he is. (Rob Mains)
2018-07-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can I get your thoughts on Twins prospect Wander Javier (SS)? Thank you for doing this chat.
(Dusty from Colorado)
Oh, Dusty.
There are some main constants in our lives. Death and taxes, aye. But there are more. Birdsong on a spring morning. The relief of rain from summer's heat. The overbearing hunger of those at the top to keep those at the bottom down. JD Martinez home runs. And, of course, Wander Javier questions. Cherish these moments. (Nicolas Stellini)
2018-06-20 19:00:00 (link to chat)Where does Wander Javier fit into the Twins plans in 2019?
(Dusty from Colorado)
If he's fully recovered, he'll start the year in the low minors. Even if he knocks the cover off the ball, the injury makes me believe the Twins will be cautious. (Mike Gianella)
2018-07-16 19:00:00 (link to chat)If Wander Javier was traded to the Mets, where would he rank in their prospect system. 1 or 2?
(Dusty from Colorado)
This was, of course, the first question in the queue. And I love the optimism that he has to be 1 or 2.

Okay, so, Andres Gimenez made the midseason 50, and I argued like hell for Peter Alonso (who was on various iterations and got knocked off late in the process). So he's at least third!

I actually just did a Mets top 10 for an article on BP Mets that's coming out soon, and I think he'd rank somewhere between 7th and 10th, for a serious answer. I'd want to run down the severity of his injury and the reports out of extended before he suffered it to get tighter than that. (Jarrett Seidler)
2018-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Will Luis Garcia be the top 2B prospect in 2 years? If not him, who?
(Steve from DC)
Jarrett's liked him more at third this year, but a lot of this is gonna depend on what the Nats look like in two years, or maybe what Carter Kieboom looks like in two years. I'll also suggest that we aren't so high on him that your first question is a likely yes for me. It's more likely to be like Andres Gimenez or Royce Lewis or Wander Javier or someone like that. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-06-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)No Wander Javier question yet?
(Ashley from Albany)
Oh there's a few, but I can't tell which ones are from the real Dusty. No time for fake Dustys (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat) Can you give me a quick outlook on Twins superstar prospect Wander Javier, his timeline, upside, and profile?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Absolutely not.

(I'll refer you back to Scooter Hotz's comment from two days ago: the TL;DR is that his injury will keep him out until next year, and he's wildly talented and wildly untested. Wait and see.) (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)What's the Twins trade market for Wander Javier? Certainly they wouldn't dare trade him, right?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Given that he's injured and very untested, I'd be extremely surprised that they'd want to deal him now. However, I think that if Minnesota finds themselves in a situation where they could land a high-end starting pitcher or a solid bat, they should certainly be open to a move. (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)What's the deal with the Wander Javier questions? This guy must be good.
(Paul Sporer from Austin)
Hey Paul! Here's the thing: nobody knows. But Dusty is super here for him! (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)Alright Bryan, you've done a fantastic job in this chat. I'm going to have to ask that you make sure to answer every Wander Javier question. Thanks
(Craig Goldstein from BP)
Ugh, fine. (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)Potentially, could Wander Javier be the type of player to make an all-star game? He seems to be very toolsy!
(Dusty from Colorado)
ANYTHING IS POSSIBBBLLLLEEEEE (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)Is Wander Javier basically Juan Soto but potentially a SS?
(Dusty from Colorado)
I think you have him confused with Fernando Tatis Jr. (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)Wander Javier? In or out? LAST CHANCE!
(Dusty from Colorado)
Wait, is this really the last one? I'm out! (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)All this talk of Wander Javier, when we should be talking about WANDER FRANCO!
(Gerald from Grinding)
FFFFUUUUUUUUUU- (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)Why are you a Wander Javier hater? Did you wander into the wrong part of town once and have a bad time? You seem to be criminally low on him compared to the rest of the industry!
(Dusty from Colorado)
THUS (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)Thank you for your support Gerald, but I am no Wander Javier.
(Wander Franco from TB)
ENDS (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-07-26 12:00:00 (link to chat)Can you tell me more about TAV, particularly how Wander Javier ranks in TAV compared to his contemporaries and upside.
(Rob Mains from The Track)
MY (Bryan Grosnick)
2018-06-04 19:00:00 (link to chat)If Wander Javier's labrum wasn't torn. Where do you think he would go in the draft? First overall or would he slip to 2?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Wander Javier is a special talent. Top 10, I'd say. (Draft Night with David Lee)
2018-05-25 12:15:00 (link to chat)Where does Wander Javier rank among prospects with jacked up shoulders?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dusty...thank's,, (Craig Goldstein)
2018-04-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)Forget Wander Javier, why weren't there questions on Juan Soto in the offseason. Is he in Eloy land with a healthy year?
(Mike from NY)
That was what I figured would happen with a healthy 2017, so sure, let's run it back. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-04-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)Wander Javier has a real shot to impact the Twins down the line? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dusty, no joke, I actually tried to figure out what the closest Midwest League city was to me. I'd like to bring you the goods here. This will happen. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-04-23 20:00:00 (link to chat)Is Wander Javier a top 10 prospect in a year? If not, how do you call yourself a prospect analyst? Thanks.
(Dusty from Colorado )
I wish he'd leave extended spring training already. I want to see what he does in full-season ball. I'm probably middle of the pack when it comes to hype on him. Actually shipped him for Jose Martinez 1 for 1 early this offseason. (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-04-23 20:00:00 (link to chat)I've seen Wander Javier's name pop up quite a bit in these chats (and I believe it is even a bit of a running joke now?) but to be honest I haven't paid too much attention to him as yet. However, I've now been offered him for my Jordan Hicks in my dynasty league so felt the need to ask the question. Is this a deal I need to be doing given Wander's considerable upside vs Hicks value likely tied to being a future closer (which can be fickle)?
(Warren from Australia)
Definitely a running joke. Sometimes I wonder if there's an entire cult of Dusty's lined up waiting to ask about him. I see Wander as a prospect who can be good across the board but not great at any one thing. Still needs to prove a lot. As for the deal, it's fair to take it. Just know there's a lot of fluctuation that can happen in the next three years. The good news is it's a reliever you're losing (and I don't consider them that valuable) (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-05-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)I heard you were soliciting Wander Javier questions on Twitter. I was wondering what you think his upside is? Thanks!
(Dusty from Colorado)
A snap of his fingers will destroy half the baseballs in the universe. (Anthony Rescan)
2018-04-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can u rank order these SS for long term fantasy upside in a deep dynasty: Freudis Nova, Louis Garcia, Wander Franco, Yasel Antuna, or Wander Javier?
(Loria from Milwaukee)
Antuna not my favorite but should be average; he just may not stick at shorstop. Nova has a bit more upside. Luis Garcia has higher speed upside, a nice BA floor, but power may take some time. Franco is so young that his upside seems very high, but I just don't like the long wait because a lot can go wrong. Javier is also a high-risk, high-reward guy with good speed. Pure upside, take Franco or Javier. But for a bit more safety, I'd go Garcia for speed and then Nova. (Kevin Jebens)
2018-04-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)You have to answer a Wander Javier question per chat. That’s the rules here.
(Dusty from Colorado )
There ya go, Dusty. Didn't want you feeling left out in the Colorado cold. (Kevin Jebens)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)After Bichette and Tatis graduate, is Wander Javier the prospect shortstop with the most offensive upside? Thanks so much Jeffrey!
(Dusty from Colorado )
Dusty...sure, why not. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)Is there a “Next Big Thing” out there that has the hype like Bryce Harper did when he was in high school? Someone that’s not currently in the Top 101, but will be a fast riser, and can be a high schooler, college guy, international player, or a guy in the minors. If not who will be the guy that rises the most in next years rankings like Acuna did?
(SNDestroyU from Illinois)
Harper was on the cover of Sports Illustrated as an amateur and declared a future perennial MVP candidate at 16. So, no, there is not. We talked about a few breakout candidates on the pod, but if you want a non-101 guy, Khalil Lee, Brandon Marsh (although I am personally lower on him than others), and yeah, Wander Javier. Brusdar Graterol and Chris Rodriguez are the arms that come to mind.

And a note on Acuna: I'm not one for victory-lapping, but we were well ahead of the industry on him, and that is a tribute to the work that David Lee did in the Sally in 2016. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)Why is Wander Javier not on the 101?
(Dusty from Washington)
He was so close, Dusty. So close he is getting a blurb in the supplemental content we have coming on players that just missed. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-02-28 20:00:00 (link to chat)If everything breaks right, could we be talking about Wander Javier in the same breath as Carlos Correa in 3-5 years?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Ah, my very first Dusty question! And nah, he won't be that good. Would need to make SERIOUS strides in the power department to get to Correa level. I do like his plate discipline though. He should continue slowly climbing up lists. (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-02-28 20:00:00 (link to chat)Is Wander Javier the type of prospect that GMs are going to beg to acquire?
(Dust from Colorado)
HEY WAIT A MINUTE, YOU'RE NOT THE REAL DUSTY. (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-02-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Kevin, can you give me your thoughts about Wander Javier? Do you think he has good upside?
(Dusty from Colorado )
Like any low-minors teenager, high-risk, high reward. He is years away, but scouts (and our BP staff) like his upside. I think he may be more of an impact in SB than HR, at least initially, whereas Bret and Ben like him for BA, HR, and RBI. Bret also ranked him 32nd at shortstop for a 5-year outlook, ahead of guys already in the bigs who should get a full five years of playing time (DeJong, Owings, Simmons). That should tell you something. (Kevin Jebens)
2018-02-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Wander Javier's upside going to be worth the wait?
(Dusty from Colorado )
That depends on how patient you are. Since you've asked this question many times, twice in this chat and even in other chats, my guess is the few years it'll take will be too hard for you. :) (Kevin Jebens)
2018-02-23 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Scott, I was wondering what you could tell me about Twins, SS burgeoning prospect Wander Javier? He was 77 on the Dynasty rankings, could he be top 17 by year's end?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dragging me into the fray right away? I’m not as clever as most of my colleagues with all of their Wander-lust so I’ll play it relatively straight. There’s clearly a lot to like about Javier, but there is a lot of work to do as well. I’d want to see a bit less swing-and-miss than we saw in the Appy League. 17? Nah... (Scott Delp)
2018-02-23 20:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Wander Javier could develop 30 HR pop? His body seems pretty projectable.
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dusty...keep trying to goad me into this. Yes, there is projection there. 30 HR might be a stretch. (Scott Delp)
2018-02-13 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Mike, really enjoying the podcast positional previews. I was wondering if you could tell me anything about Twins prospect Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dusty from Colorado )
incredible bat, wowed them all in rookie ball, but he's so young. Upside is a top 20 hitter, but we have miles to go on Javier. (Mike Gianella)
2018-02-06 15:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Darius, was wondering your thoughts on Twins SS prospect Wander Javier. Do you think he has a shot to be an impact player?
(Dusty from Colorado)
He just hit a ton as an 18-year-old in Rookie ball and scouts love the tools, so yes, but he was also an 18-year-old in Rookie ball. Long way to go, plenty of upside. (Darius Austin)
2018-01-31 14:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Twins SS prospect Wander Javier? What's his upside?
(Dustyy from Colorado)
He sure has looked good so far in Rookie league, and has already shown some pop. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sneak into the top 101. He's super interesting. (Mark Barry)
2018-01-23 23:00:00 (link to chat)Was there any consideration for Wander Javier at #1 for the Twins system?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Let's do this. Wander! Out the gate! No! We did not consider him over Lewis, but, as we note pretty much every chat around here, homeboy's a cool prospect. Some day, sweet Dusty. We'll get there together. (Wilson Karaman)
2018-01-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)HI Jeffrey. How do you see Wander Javier slotting in with Wednesday?
(Nick from Jersey)
Desperately need some help at fullback right now. Well, really everywhere. If he's healthy put him in the XI (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-11-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hello. Thank you for the information you provide in your chats. My question is, why do you reply to certain questions by stating a cocktail recipe? Unless it is some sort of inside joke, it seems disrespectful of the person asking the question. I wonder if you think this is appreciated by BP's readers.
(colonel from Oxford, Mississippi)
I only do it for the same Wander Javier questions that pop up every chat now for some reason. Speaking of which... (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-11-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)What can you tell me about Twins prospect, Wander Javier? Is it too early to get excited?
(Dusty from Colorado)
I recently noted to my podcast buddy Jarrett Seidler that my second year in charge of thirty team lists is going a little different than my first. Last year when I needed a pacer while writing, I'd whip up a little bitters and tonic. Now I just free pour fernet into Coke. I like fernet but can rarely find a cocktail with it that doesn't just taste of fernet. Well, I recently found one called The Good Doctor.

1.25 Cognac
.25 Fernet
.25 Blanc Vermouth
.5 simple syrup
.25 molasses
.25 lemon juice

Shaken, serve up in a coupe glass. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-11-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)A few under the radar prospects I really love: Andres Gimenez, Wander Javier, Danny Jansen, Akil Baddoo, Jorge Guzman, and Dennis Santana on the Dodgers. Any of these guys jump out at you at big risers in 2018?
(hunt4prospects from USA)
Okay it's actually Wander Javier here. No joke.

I like Gimenez too, but he's more of a slow burn profile. The pitchers are likely both relievers (here's Wilson's Santana report http://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/eyewitness_pit.php?reportid=497). Jansen is more a good backup, Baddoo is legit too. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-11-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)Should the Mets trade for Wander Javier?
(Dusty from Colorado)
The weather here has been weird. It's humid again, but chilly enough overall that I have started to go for more Fall/Winter cocktails. That means the rye comes out more for me. I have really been enjoying a Sazerac variation with equal parts rye and cognac, a riff on the drink's history.

1 oz Cognac (I use Pierre Ferand)
1 oz rye (Rittenhouse)
0.5 oz simple syrup
2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
2 dashes angostura bitters

Mix all ingredients, stir with ice
Strain into a cocktail glass washed with Herbsaint. Garnish with a lemon twist. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-11-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)Wander Javier or Miguel Sano in 2023?
(JS from Rural NJ)
The original Sazerac is of course a New Orleans classic and has official cocktail status or whatever marketing bs Diageo or whoever came up with to sell more rye. My favorite New Orleans cocktail is actually the Vieux Carre, which I find more balanced, while still suitably bracing for a cold New England winter.

3/4 oz rye
3/4 oz cognac
3/4 oz sweet vermouth (get something with a bit of a bitter undertone, though not full on punt e mes)
bar spoon benedictine
dash angostura
dash Peychaud's

Stir over ice and strain into a herbsaint-washed rocks glass with one big cube. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-11-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat, JP! I checked the Davenport Peak Translation for Wander Javier, and his prime years look to be a 3-3.5 WAR regular. That's very good of course, but no better than obscure fellow teenage Appy Leaguer, centerfielder Wadye Ynfante, who hit .300/.370/.490 this year for his third straight season of a 130 or better wRC+. Can you tell me anything about Ynfante, or any other Appy League sleeper prospects? Thanks, JP!
(Dr. Benton Quest from Private Jet)
I can tell you that running MLEs for dudes in Appy ball is not where you should be spending your precious free time.

I can give you Appy League sleepers though: Seuly Matias is likely to make the 101. Jack loves Ronaldo Hernandez, Rays catcher. Luis Medina should't get lost in the shuffle of a deep Yankees system either. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-10-12 20:00:00 (link to chat)I was wondering if you, or more specifically Craig Goldstein, had any thoughts about Twins prospect Wander Javier?
(AaronGleeman from Minnesota)
Not all those who Wander are lost.

But most people who are in rookie ball are. So we'll see what happens when he gets to like, I dunno, High-A in two years! (Nick Schaefer)
2017-10-17 20:00:00 (link to chat)Will Wander Javier reach top 100 prospect status?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Hard for me to say -- I don't know a lot about him -- but he looks like he has the tools to make a case for it. My guess is that he doesn't make it as he's still in Rookie ball, and people are going to want to see what he makes of himself in single A, but I like the age-to-level performance, and I wouldn't be stunned to see him on a couple of lists. (Trevor Strunk)
2017-10-24 20:00:00 (link to chat)Is Wander Javier a potential top 100 prospect down the line?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna ask this to you
By now you should've somehow realized what you gotta do
I don't believe that anybody feels the way our chatters do, about this prospect

Back beat, the word was on the street that the prospect hype in your heart is out
I'm sure you've heard the scouting report before but you never really had a doubt
I don't believe that anybody feels the way our chatters do about him now (World Series Chat)
2017-10-24 20:00:00 (link to chat)One day we see Wander Javier play in the World Series. Until then, can you update me on his prospect development?
(Dusty from Colorado)
And all four balls we have to walk are winding
And all the stadium lights that there are blinding
There are many things that I would like to say about him, but I don't know how

Because maybe, this prospect is gonna be the one that saves me
And after all, he's Wander Javier (World Series Chat)
2017-10-06 19:30:00 (link to chat)Is Addison Russell the Cubs future short stop or would they benefit for trading for a prospect like Wander Javier (who seems like a perfect fit in Chicago)?
(Dusty from Colorado )
I think the Cubs are content to roll with Russell for the foreseeable future. With the hitters with whom they've surrounded Russell, they don't necessarily need an impact bat at the position, and the 23-year-old is a Gold Glove-caliber player. Plus, Russell does have some good pop in his bat and will likely improve on this year's meager numbers.

On the other end of the equation is the fact that the Cubs have little to trade away at this point except a couple of unattractive veterans. Ben Zobrist wouldn't fetch much on the trade market, and there aren't many other tradeable players on the club. So yes, while all of you weirdos with your Wander Javier questions are cute, there's zero chance the Cubs pick him up. Go see Jeff Paternostro's various comments. (Zachary Moser)
2017-10-04 20:00:00 (link to chat)I know you've talked about him before, but what makes you so high on Wander Javier?
(Dusty from Colorado)
His name. It's a 70 name. (NL WC Game Chat)
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)Wander Javier the real deal? Is he going to be one of the top SS prospects real soon?
(Rusty from Colorado)
Yep. Although there is a shot he ends up one of the top 3B prospects instead. Stick will play anywhere. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)It seems like Wilson and I share similar tastes in fantasy baseball assets. In his 2018 dynasty targets post, he highlighted several potential breakout names. Of these three, who will I regret not owning in 2018? Wander Javier, Jesus Luzardo, Nolan Jones.
(Chris B from St. Louis, MI)
The Nolan Jones reports from the Penn were...intriguing. Javier probably has a little more upside though if that is your thing. Love the Jesus Lizard, but the stuff isn't so good that I'd take him over the bats yet. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)here comes the obligatory question...Can you name a few low level prospects that you can see flying up the ranking next season. Wander Javier seems to be a popular name at the moment
(Freddie from Akron)
Did Gleeman all send you in here with Wander Javier questions?

We are doing a low minors sleeper for each team this year, but some of the bigger names that have come up so far.

Luis Medina, Matt Sauer (NYY)
Ronaldo Hernandez, Resly Linares (TBR)
Francisco Morales (PHI)

About 10 different Padres

Lazarito (OAK)
Seuly Matias (KCR) (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)I'm not the one asking all the Wander Javier questions, but I am curious about what you think his upside might be.
(Aaron Gleeman from Minnesota )
Guess I should probably field this one.

The fact that he's actualized some of the tools so quickly is good. I don't know if there's one standout tool here that carries him to stardom, but the reasonable good outcome here is a role 6 on the left side of the infield that contributes with above-average offensive tools. Toolsy 18-year-old shortstops can go in a lot of different directions generally in terms of shape of production (Rosario is a good example of this, he ended up a very different type of player than his Appy league "good" projection") (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)Now that Jorge Polanco is hitting, is Nick Gordon a future 2B or does he take short and Polanco shifts to 2B? Are we looking at a future infield of Polanco/Gordon up the middle and Wander Javier at third? And how far off might we see that?
(Jordan from Dakota)
Jorge Polanco is a useful player, but not the kind of guy that blocks your top position player prospects. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-09-18 23:00:00 (link to chat)Buying or selling Wander Javier as a top 100 guy in 2019?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Buying. Have loved everything I've heard about the kid, think there's serious helium potential there next year. Balloon's already inflating. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-09-18 23:00:00 (link to chat)Hey, thanks for the chat! I know you're driving the bus on Wander Javier, but what do you think about his 80 grade name teammate Akil Baddoo?
(Jake from Kalamazoo)
Our fearless leader Bret is a big Baddoo man: https://twitter.com/BretSayreBP/status/907693548472074240

He's pretty fast and has shown solid bat-to-ball so far, both as an amateur and then this season. Guys who hit .300 with more walks than strikeouts while >2 years young for their level are inherently interesting (particularly for those of you who play in OBP leagues). He's probably a LF-only profile, so the bat's gonna have to carry the day. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-09-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Should the Cubs or White Sox trade for Twins prospect Wander Javier? I think it would be foolish not to consider.
(Dusty from Colorado)
According to Wilson Karaman he's a fan and thinks he's a Top 100 prospect type, although he's still in rookie ball. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/chat/chat.php?chatId=1443

I mean...if the Twins are willing to part with a Top 100 prospect for some reason then...sure it'd be foolish not to consider, I just don't see why that would happen. (Nick Schaefer)
2017-09-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is it too early to be excited for Wander Javier? He seems like the real deal.
(Dusty from Colorado)
I have gotten a question about Wander Javier in literally every chat queue I've done this summer. I'm not really a prospect guy, and have tried to stop having fake opinions when I don't know a player myself. What I can tell you about Javier is that people like both the pure hit and the power potential. I've heard questions about whether he sticks at shortstop, and when you hear those questions when the kid is 18, it usually means he's not sticking. Fine prospect. Lot of development left. (Matthew Trueblood)
2017-08-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)As a Twins fan, how excited should I be for Wander Javier?
(Dusty from Colorado )
Moderately. All things in moderation, especially hype around guys still waiting for their first taste of full-season ball. He's impressive, though. (Matthew Trueblood)
2017-08-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)How good can Wander Javier be?
(Dusty from Colorado)
It's a really great name. A 70 name. He has other good tools too but I can really only speak specifically to the one I've seen, and that's the name. I like his upside. (Matthew Trueblood)
2017-09-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Since Minnesota is close to Chicago (somewhat), I was wondering if you had any thoughts on emerging SS prospect Wander Javier?
(Dusty from Colorado)
He's worth being excited about, but he's also just 18 and in Rookie Ball, so until he gets to affiliated ball I'll reserve most judgement. (Collin Whitchurch)
2017-08-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Wander Javier for real?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Hard to say. You immediately want to say "ah, but the BABIP" but in the minors, high BABIPs can be indicative of a player just murdering the competition. That might be what's happening with Javier. But betting on power growth is always kind of dicey -- he might end up being impressive if he develops along the lines we're expecting. But he could also mature into a fairly standard AAAA/utility guy if he just maintains his solid hitting without power behind it. (Trevor Strunk)
2017-08-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is it time we start taking Wander Javier serious as a prospect?
(Dusty from Colorado)
I'm not a prospects person. My colleague Jarrett Seidler is, though, and he's good. Here's his take: "He got $4 million out of the Dominican so I think we've been taking him seriously for a while! But he's good."

So yeah, take him seriously at will. (Rob Mains)
2017-09-12 23:00:00 (link to chat)Wander Javier, top 5 prospect SS right now?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Craig Goldstein says, "Meg, you don't have to answer prospect questions. You're a Mariners fan. What do you know of prospects?" Jarrett Seidler says, "Maybe in a year or two, but not yet." I say not all who Wander are lost (hello, welcome to the chat). (Megan Rowley)
2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)How is Wander Javier looking this year? Is it wrong to be excited?
(Dusty from Colorado)
With Emmett and I both working the Midwest league, we have not seen him. However, I don't think it's wrong to be excited about a 18 year old toolsy shortstop. Look forward to seeing him with Cedar Rapids next year. (Emmett Rosenbaum & Nathan Graham)
2017-06-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Where would you have Wander Javier in prospect SS rankings?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Dusty, I don't have prospect SS rankings. Let me quote Dirty Harry in "Magnum Force:" A man's gotta know his limitations. This man knows his. I don't have the skills or the bandwidth to evaluate prospects. Note that I'm not saying I don't like prospects, it's just that they're not my expertise. It's like asking me for advice on being tall and handsome. But just because I lack knowledge, you're not out of luck. Lots of people here do! Craig Goldstein did one of these last week. He, and the folks he works with on the prospects team, are the ones to ask. They're really good. I met several of them for the first time at our ballpark event in Baltimore on Saturday. I mean it. Really good. (Rob Mains)
2017-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Wander Javier the next Carlos Correa?
(Dusty from Colorado)
I Wander what would make you think this? Sorry, sorry, trying to delete. (Also, no, he is not). (Collin Whitchurch)
2017-06-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)How do you compare Andres Gimenez to Wander Javier?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Well, Gimenez has done it at a much higher level now. Javier is way more toolsed up, Gimenez is way more polished? (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-05-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on the Twins Wander Javier ?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Um, his name is cool? I have nothing worthwhile to say about a guy in rookie ball who's younger than the many high school seniors, sorry. (Rob Mains)
2017-05-22 23:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think Wander Javier's stock is going to be come this time next year? Thanks!
(Dusty from Colorado)
Javier's as good a bet right now as anyone from that 2015 J2 class to develop into a top-tier prospect. Got good reports from XST, but won't really have much to go on from there until we see more game action this summer, which will ideally involve a long stateside debut. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-05-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's the deal with Wander Javier, is he going to be t100 by preseason?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Can't really answer that until we get 2017 reports. Talent is there for that, but need to see it stateside first. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-04-28 13:30:00 (link to chat)Do you think Wander Javier shoots up the lists this year?
(Dusty from Colorado )
I think we're a year off from him making real waves (Craig Goldstein)
2017-03-09 20:00:00 (link to chat)How do you think Wander Javier will rank as a scoresheet option down the line? Elite?
(Dusty from Colorado )
A great question, and one we're terribly unequipped to answer from a scouting perspective! Let's take this from a Scoresheet perspective, though. Is Wander Javier a Scoresheet asset? Well, he's going to play this year in the GCL, and possibly jump to full season ball only by 2019. You're stuck with an asset that's not growing in value, and a player who's off the radar for most Scoresheet owners for at least a few years. This kind of thinking would have cost us Vlad Guerrero Jr, Fernando Tatis Jr, and maybe even players who weren't kids of big leaguers, but I'd rather have the pick to spend on a reliever or bench bat, at least for now. (Ben Murphy, Ian Lefkowitz and Jared Weiss)
2017-02-06 23:00:00 (link to chat)I'm curious as to what sort of upside you see for Twins SS Wander Javier?
(Dusty from Colorado)
It's really tough to say right now, a hammy issue scrapped all but like 10 games of his season last year, and he's still all of 18. Reports suggest intriguing power for a kid who has at least a puncher's chance to stay up the middle, but it's going to be a loooong developmental road. There's probably a first-division ceiling here, but it's entirely theoretical, dude hasn't even landed stateside yet. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-02-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)With a strong season, where would Wander Javier rank amongst Twins prospects next year?
(Dusty from Colorado)
I think he's a strong bet to remain in the top five or six on the Twins list. I don't envision guys like Gordon or Jay ascending to the big leagues this year. Javier is still a long way from the majors. If he sticks at short, it's a fun profile. (George Bissell)
2017-01-31 19:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wander Javier, SS Twins?
(Dusty from Colorado)
Admittedly I don't know too much about Javier, and as a 17-year-old there's not an awful lot to go on. I guess it seems like the Twins really believe in him, as he got a decent chunk of change last July 2. (Mark Barry)
