2016-01-21 19:00:00 (link to chat) | Hey George, what do you think about a swap of Bregman, JD Davis, and Derek Fisher for Ender Inciarte and Arodys Vizcaino? Seems to me to be mutually beneficial to each team. Thanks! (Matt from Virginia (AKA Snowpocalypse Central)) | It depends what you think of Bregman. I would probably keep him unless I were desperate for stolen bases or an immediate upgrade at an OF spot. (George Bissell) |
2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat) | Prospect Closer talk. Arodys Vizcaino. He gonna be that guy in the next year or two?? How bout Jake Barrett with AZ?? And your odds on Foltynewicz being a starter at the end of the day. (Kyra Sedgwick from Bacon) | Ahh clever name.
Arodys is coming, his fate is out of his hands though. The Cubs bullpen has suddenly gotten a few different options in there. Barrett has upside, I think Reed holds on and he's young enough to be there awhile but I think Barrett might be forcing some hands in AZ. As for Folty, that's a really good question for Craig Goldstein. I think he's got a lot of reliever tendencies but I still leave room for development. (Mauricio Rubio) |
2014-06-26 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Does Arodys Vizcaino look like a future Cubs closer? (gerrybraun from san diego) | The "closer tag" is a fickle beast. He looks like a back-end option in the bullpen, though. That's for sure. (J.P. Breen) |
2014-05-21 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you think Arodys Vizcaino makes the Cubs BP this year, and when? Think he has a shot at the closer role by the end of the year? (Jake from Chicago) | I do think he'll work his way up by the summer. Absolutely has a shot at closing, too. I'd say maybe a month from call-up (though that's just a guess as it's so hard to get any sort of gauge on call-ups) and could a shot at closing if Rondon flops (though he's been fantastic this year) (Paul Sporer) |
2014-04-21 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What will the Cubs ultimately do with Arodys Vizcaino now that he is back pitching? Do you think he will ever become a starter again? Could he possibly be the next closer? (Heath from Chicago) | I think his starting days are over, partially due to the injuries but more so due to the developmental time lost during those recoveries. There's no way to project whether or not someone will be a closer. He once had the stuff to close games and still could, but being a closer is about opportunity. Impossible to predict. I can predict, however, that he could still be a late-inning option for the Cubs. (Jeff Moore) |
2014-03-27 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Thoughts on Arodys Vizcaino? can he be future closer for Cubbies? (Polynesian from NJ) | He's gotta prove he can stay on the mound before I anoint him the future anything. Should Vizcaino stay healthy, he's got a chance to be a late-inning reliever though. So to answer the second part: maybe. (R.J. Anderson) |
2013-08-01 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Presuming health, do you view Arodys Vizcaino as a SP or RP down the road? Thanks (Martyy from IL) | Not being able to presume health is one of the big things here, no? I think Vizcaino winds up in the bullpen. (R.J. Anderson Trade Deadline Wrap Chat) |
2013-08-27 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Fill in the blank: "This time next year, Arodys Vizcaino is ______"? (sitrick2 from Minneapolis, MN) | in the bullpen on the North Side of Chicago (Harry Pavlidis) |
2013-02-27 20:00:00 (link to chat) | Any of these guys worth a look in an NL only 4x4 standard league?
Trevor Rosenthal, Tony Cingrani, Arodys Vizcaino, Christian Garcia, J.J. Hoover, or Sam Lecure.
(Johnny T from The Hills) | Rosenthal is definitely worth a $2-3 bid in NL-only. His stuff is legitimate and even if he's only a set-up man, his Ks mean that he could put up sneaky $10-12 value. (Mike Gianella) |
2013-02-25 11:00:00 (link to chat) | Arodys Vizcaino is viewed as a SP by the Cubs brass, considering the success rate of TJ do you think it's possible he's a top 20 guy next year with a strong 2013? A front-line MLB starter? Way too many sleeping on this arm! Thanks Prof and appreciate the ranks! #sparkle (Saintly Steven from Puerto Rico) | He's a reliever. I don't see a starter, and most of the sources for the Cubs list felt the same way. (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects) |
2013-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What is your view on Arodys Vizcaino? Can he be a top of the rotation arm assuming he returns to health? Thanks! (Saintly Steven from Puerto Rico) | I don't think so. I think he ends up in the bullpen and becomes a very good late-inning arm (Jason Parks) |
2012-12-28 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Kelvin Herrera in KC, Arodys Vizcaino in North Chicago, and Carter Capps in Seattle. Who has the best chance to lead their team in saves in 2013?* In 2014? (*I know Vizcaino is coming back from TJS). (Kevin from Des Moines) | Thanks for the question, Kevin. Trying to guess save opportunities is a fool's errand, but I'll go with Herrera on the basis that he has the most big-league experience. (Geoff Young) |
2012-10-08 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Does ARodys Vizcaino develop ito a starer, or is he destined for the bullpen? (captnamerca from Dunedin, FL) | I believe Chicago will develop him as a reliever, and he could replace Carlos Marmol as the Cubs' closer as soon as 2014. (Bradley Ankrom) |
2012-08-09 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Thanks for the chat. How would you handle Arodys Vizcaino if you were the Cubs? Rotation or bullpen? With 3 plus pitches, don't you have to try him in the rotation? Cubs don't have much in the system there... (George from California) | I would throw Vizcaino in the bullpen and let him do his thing. As much as I hate limiting an arm like his to 50-to-70 innings, you have to look at it this way: getting those innings-and they would be high-leverage innings-is better than getting nothing. Maybe if I had the Cubs' info on Vizcaino I'd try letting him start one more time. But given what I know, I'd let him go dominate in the pen. (R.J. Anderson) |
2012-03-15 12:00:00 (link to chat) | When will the Braves tweak their organizational philosophy. They are always overflowing with young arms, but they refuse to trade any of them for bats, which they usually lack. Today comes word that Arodys Vizcaino might need Tommy John. They missed the boat again. (Kyran from Malone, NY) | To be fair, it appears Atlanta did try to trade Jair Jurrjens this offseason. (R.J. Anderson) |
2012-01-20 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you think Arodys Vizcaino will ever go back to starting? What role do you see for him this season? (JR from New Hampshire) | I think he's best served in a bullpen role, and could spend much of 2012 in the big leagues doing just that. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2011-08-10 13:00:00 (link to chat) | On a scale from 1 to Bacon, how much better is Arodys Vizcaino than Scott Proctor? (aCone419 from ATL) | Texas brisket (Jason Parks) |
2011-08-11 13:00:00 (link to chat) | How valuable will Trevor Bauer be in a dynasty keeper league; more or less than Arodys Vizcaino? (faztradamus from Chicago) | That's a very difficult question. There's a lot to like about Bauer and there's a good ceiling there, but he's very far away so projectability is all he has for the moment. Vizcaino also the potential to be special and is closer to the majors now, so I'd probably take him, all else equal. (Derek Carty) |
2011-07-21 16:00:00 (link to chat) | What about this hypothetical trade...Beltran to Atlanta for Arodys Vizcaino? (Kyran from Searsburg, ME) | That's more damage to Atlanta than Sherman inflicted in 1864. (Jason Collette) |
2011-04-13 13:00:00 (link to chat) | When a player is coming back from an injury-plagued season (like Arodys Vizcaino), what do you look for to reassure yourself that the player has the same upside he had prior to the injury? What are some red flags? (Matt A from Raleigh) | In a pitcher, you want to see that the "stuff" is present. Does the FB have zip? Does the breaking ball offer sharp break? Does the arm work the same? COmmand is usually the last thing that comes back with a pitcher, so you would look for glimpses of that as well. red flags for me would stem from the arm and how it was working. Did the mechanics change? Is the action still easy? Lots of things to look for. (Jason Parks) |
2010-11-09 14:00:00 (link to chat) | What is the status of Arodys Vizcaino? (laynef from Austin) | He's healthy, and the Braves expect big things in '11. (Kevin Goldstein) |
2010-08-20 15:30:00 (link to chat) | Anything on Arodys Vizcaino? Are they just going to keep him shut down or test it out to see how his arm responds to pitching? (BigSteve from Saint Louis) | He's been rehabbing in Florida and it's been going very well actually. According to sources, he just might make another start or two before the season ends. (Kevin Goldstein) |
