2020-01-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)For deep league, is Josh Rojas a potential sleeper candidate for this season in ARI? Seems like there could be playing time opportunity.
(Craig from Chicago )
Yes. I expect Josh Rojas to be a jack-of-all-trades type for the Diamondbacks in 2020. I do not expect him to be an everyday player, however, especially following the Kole Calhoun signing. Sneaky 5-category upside with Rojas if he can find regular playing time. He is definitely worth a stash in deep leagues. (Jesse Roche)
2019-11-07 14:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think this offseason will drag to the finish line like the past 2 seasons with good players left without a dance partner and having to take a lower/shorter deal?
(sportsguy21792 from Madison)
I think it has the potential to, yes. I'm at least a little optimistic that the big names will come off the board a little bit earlier (by the end of 2019 would be great), but I do fear we're going to get into February and wonder why Kole Calhoun got a one-year, $10M deal, Corey Dickerson is still available, and Jose Iglesias is taking an NRI.

It's not great! (Free Agent Chat w/Collin Whitchurch)
2019-07-31 12:00:00 (link to chat)What team could use Kole Calhoun? With Trout manning CF, Justin Upton solidly in LF, and Jo Adell loudly knocking on the door, Calhoun's 2020 option is reasonable, but not on the Angels. Why do we hear buzz about Castellanos, but not Calhoun?
(Dylan from RI)
Easy answer used to be Cleveland but they just picked up two outfielders. Braves could maybe use him since they're playing a (hot, admittedly) Duvall right now? I think the Angels unload him in the offseason. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-07-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Kole Calhoun to the Indians make all the sense? The Indians get a actual major league outfielder and he is blocking Adell if his 2020 option is picked up. Maybe the Angels include some cash to cover the 2020 option if Cleveland’s budget is really maxed out. Also, could you see a world where Andrelton Simmons to the Brewers could happen?
(Dylan from MA)
I could totally see this one happening! I think the Angels selling would definitely get them some flak, but the bigger hurdle is probably that the Indians won't want to surrender much for someone like Calhoun (corner OF, wrong side of 30, declined recently) and the Angels have little incentive to sell him unless they are offered something of legit value.

I think the Angels see Simmons as an untouchable cornerstone, but I could be wrong (Ginny Searle)
2018-02-28 20:00:00 (link to chat)I heard that LAA are to lower their right field fence by 10 feet? Could you confirm please. Also would you expect Kole Calhoun's numbers to increase re: home runs, as he hits left handed.
(zeeksam from Canada)
Yeah, it's happening.

https://www.mlb.com/angels/news/angel-stadium-will-add-more-homers-in-2018/c-267458738

That's a good article detailing how it'll affect HR. Calhoun could gain a couple more, nothing drastic. (Eddy Almaguer)
2016-04-25 23:00:00 (link to chat)Can you rank: Nomar Mazara, Christian Yelich and Kole Calhoun? Thank you man
(Geoff from Fire Island)
Oof, that's a tough lil' group right there. If only on account of Mazara's uncertain playing time/big league roster slot once Choo is healthy, I'll begrudgingly toss him 3rd. Love Yelich and would take him above Calhoun. (Wilson Karaman)
2016-03-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Mike, in Tout Wars mixed last night Kole Calhoun went in the 5th round and Alex Gordon went in the 13th. Is there really that kind of difference between these guys in an OBP league?
(pryguy from Dallas, TX)
No, that's too much. I haven't looked at every pick yet, but there were some really crazy gaps between conventional wisdom/what happened in LABR mixed and NFBC drafts versus what happened in the Tout mixed draft. (Mike Gianella)
2015-01-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Kole Calhoun was a 4 win player last year, and is entering his age 27 season. How likely is a monster breakout year?
(Jay from LA)
We have him as a 3 win player here at BP, but even so, I'm not sure how much better you can expect a guy to get. I'd say a monster breakout year which I'll define as adding two more wins onto what he did last season is pretty unlikely. If he replicates last seasons value I'd be pretty happy. (Matthew Kory)
2014-12-11 18:00:00 (link to chat)Who has more fantasy value next year, d'Arnaud or Kole Calhoun?
(John from Columbus)
If d'Arnaud can stay healthy then he's my guy, simply because it's harder to come by catchers with offensive contributions than players like Calhoun. There's risk there though, as d'Arnaud has never really stayed healthy in his career. (Mark Anderson)
2014-08-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Should i try to talk myself out of keeping Kole Calhoun?
(John from Chicago)
In a standard mixed, sure. Everywhere else I think you keep him. (Mike Gianella)
2014-06-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who are few guys you'd be buying/selling right now?
(Shawnykid23 from CT)
I guess I don't necessarily keep a list like this lying around, but off the top of my head...

I'm selling: Jesse Chavez, Chase Whitley, Lonnie Chisenhall, Gordon Beckham

I'm buying: Kole Calhoun, Ian Kennedy, Joey Votto, Michael Brantley, Will Smith (J.P. Breen)
2014-04-22 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hi guys, I love Team Tracker and I rely on BP's Forecasts early in the season to set up my initial lineups vs RHP and LHP. Any chance you could fold in the SS-supplied platoon numbers so I could easily (assume I am an Excel idiot) get projections vs both RHP and LHP? I need something that automatically tells me that Kole Calhoun (and everyone else on my teams and others) is projected to have an OPS of .788 vs RHP and .694 vs LHP, without me making a bunch of goofy notes to myself. This feature would also help one make decisions on his/her pitchers' "prefer to face" teams.
(gjhardy from beautiful Meriden, NH)
The Team Tracker and Draft Aid projections have this built in with the TAv' (that's un-park-adjusted TAv) available in both vs LHP and vs RHP formats, and those are based exclusively on the Scoresheet splits that they prescribe. (Scoresheet Chat with Ben, Jared, and Ian)
2014-04-03 19:30:00 (link to chat)Kole Calhoun and Avisail Garcia both got some preseason helium. Which one do you like more for 2014?
(Henry S. from Westish)
Garcia and it's not close. This isn't to say he'll have more value at season's end but he's got way more ceiling than Calhoun and that's something I'm willing to gamble on. (Craig Goldstein)
2014-03-19 20:00:00 (link to chat)LOTS of Kole Calhoun hype the past few weeks; how high has he risen up your OF rank/tier, if at all? Thanks.
(Dan from Toronto)
I'm not buying it. I've seen him touted as a 20/20 guy and that seems awfully rich. I think he'll be a solid deeper league outfielder, but he's more of a last resort in shallower formats. (Bret Sayre)
2014-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can you tell me who you expect to be better in the short-term and long-term: Khris Davis or Kole Calhoun?
(Jimbo from STL)
I don't expect a huge return from either over the long term, but I believe a tiny bit more in Davis' bat. (Mark Anderson)
2013-11-22 14:00:00 (link to chat)With Bourjos getting traded to SL. Does this give Kole Calhoun a full time role and is he an average player?
(Chris from Arizona)
Ah, good point with Calhoun. They could easily plug him into RF. I was impressed with his ability to jump a level from A+ to AAA without missing a beat, and he could provide some solid offense. (Doug Thorburn)
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat)Can Peter Bourjos repeat his 2011 season, or will he end up on the bench, with Trout moving back to center and Kole Calhoun or (ugh) Vernon Wells in left?
(Mark68 from A Mile High)
I don't expect to see those kind of numbers out of Bourjos again. Even without that, I think he can still play everyday for a Major League team. Ultimately, I think he'll get pushed aside by Trout in center field, assuming they have reasonable options on the corners. (Mark Anderson)
