2022-01-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)How close was Mark Vientos?
(Hank from Cincinnati)
Looking at our long list he was somewhere 122-154 (Top 101 chat w/Jeffrey Paternostro)
2022-01-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey guys love the work. I was wondering how close Mark Vientos was to making the top 101, and about his outlook for the future? He put up great numbers as a 21 year old in the high minors but I know the defense has concerns, I am just wondering if you could shed light on his progression?
(Big Mo from Fayetteville)
So a little bit more on Vientos, this is mostly a production profile, as it's an effortful kind of plus raw power, and he's a well-below-average outfielder, only a bit better at third. If you really believe in the bat it might not matter, but I also saw him swing through a lot of 92-94 in Double-A so I'm not sold he's a clear starter given the defensive concerns. If this sounds a little like JD Davis well, you wouldn't be the first person to give me that comp. (Top 101 chat w/Jeffrey Paternostro)
2020-12-11 12:00:00 (link to chat)I keep trying to conjure scenarios where the Mets trade for Lindor, but instead of paying in purely prospects/young talent, they partially pay the cost by taking on bad money. Even though Cleveland doesn't have that bad money contract to dump, a 3-way trade that accomplishes this has to exist, right? How about a 3 way trade where the Mets end up with Lindor and Lorenzo Cain, Brewers send a prospect to Cle and the Mets send JD/Amed and a prospect or two to Cle. Assuming Cain's contract is something like ~15-20MM underwater, maybe they'd be willing to trade one of Rassmusen/Small/Ashby out Could look something like Brewers- Trade: Cain + Ras/Small/Ashby Receive: Salary Relief Mets- Trade: Amed Rosario, Mark Vientos, Szapucki Receive: Cain, Lindor Indians- Trade: Lindor Receive: Amed Rosario, Ras/Small/Ashby, Vientos, Szapucki What do you think? Also, what do you think of these other alternate 3rd teams/bad contracts and whether they'd be willing to send a meaningful prospect to Cleveland in a salary dump: PHI/McCutchen, CHI/Kimbrel, STL/Carp or Fowler, CIN/Moustakas
(Danny from NY)
Three-way deals can make things far more complicated and for Milwaukee specifically while I don't doubt they'd love to get out from the Cain money, they really aren't in a spot to be dumping a prospect to do it given the state of their system. The most straightforward way for the Mets is to just take Carrasco's remaining contract as well. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-10-11 12:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Alexander Canario and Mark Vientos? Top 150 guys next year?
(Jon from Warshington )
So Canario is actually only six months younger than Vientos, which is interesting. It's serious pop, but hit tool questions and a corner profile. Now a lot of that applies to Vientos as well, but there's a full-season track record here. I think both are a bit outside of the 150, but that's functionally not that different from being inside the Top 150, or the Top 101 really. (Jeffrey Paternostro)

2019-07-19 12:00:00 (link to chat)Any Brett Baty reports? Is he a better version of the Mark Vientos the Mets drafted a couple years ago?
(Sammy from NYC)
That's a little lazy but not an inaccurate comp. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-01-23 12:00:00 (link to chat)What percent chance would you put on Shervyn Newton or Mark Vientos cracking next year's 101?
(someguynamedkenn from someplaceinNJ)
40% for Newton, 20% for Vientos. This is clearly the science part of the exercise. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-08-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)looking for rising stars among the prospect ranks. i've been paying attention to these chats for a while and got jo adell this year guerrero, bishette, tatis, robles, soto and many more. i've heard aremteros, jeisson rosario, but haven't bit on them yet. is there anybody who you think is going to be a big riser next time the top 100 comes out?
(temple from madison)
Vidal Brujan and Mark Vientos are two guys I think can rise in the offseason. With the minor league season winding down we're virtually out of pop-up prospects to snatch. (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-07-10 20:00:00 (link to chat)If you were looking at players like a stock exchange, what short season Dynasty assets do you see as a penny stock with the potential to pay big dividends?
(Steve from NJ)
Excluding 2018 draftees and J2 guys, Wander Franco, D'Shawn Knowles, Kristian Robinson, George Valera, Luis Oviedo, Ronny Mauricio, Roansy Contreras, Mark Vientos, Everson Pereira (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-07-16 19:00:00 (link to chat)Any fresh reports on Will Benson, Mark Vientos,or Jean Carlos Encarnacion?
(Jimminy from Cricket Land)
Think we've covered JCE. The most recent report I heard on Vientos is that nobody has any idea what he's doing at Kingsport, but Jeffrey is heading down there in a few weeks so we should have a fuller coverage soon. Nathan Graham has a lot of our Midwest League coverage this year and noted for will Benson a very impressive batting practice and a lot of concern over his hit tool recently. (Jarrett Seidler)
2018-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Ronnie Mauricio, Stanley Consuerga, Mark Vientos, Luis Sanchez, Shervyen Newton all playing on short season teams. Safe to say, there is some hope for this system when you look at the lower levels? Any thoughts on these guys and other names I might be missing (I guess add Adrian Hernandez in the DSL, hopefully not for long) at the lower levels that you like?
(Jon from Westchester)
Junior Santos in the DSL is another name I've gotten buzz on. Newton and Consuegra are the most interesting to me past the seven-figure guys, and you could make a case Newton is a better prospect than Mauricio right now. The thing is most teams have interesting teenagers in the lower levels, and the Mets have in the recent past as well. Better athletes this time around at least. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)Was Mark Vientos strongly considered? Is he a breakout candidate to jump high onto next year’s list?
(David from New York)
Strongly is a bit strong, but sure he was on the long list. And yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if he hits his way onto next year's. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)Mark Vientos or Nick Pratto?
(Phil from Adelphia)
I think Pratto is the better prospect at present, but I'd take Vientos on a personal pref list. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)Were David Peterson and Mark Vientos both steals. Also, can you talk a little bit about Villenes?
(Brett from Hoboken)
I wouldn't call them "steals." Good value at both slots for sure. Villines is a senior-sign sidearmer, good athlete, good change-up, plus command. If he finds a consistent slider could be a very nice relief piece. Think he's a MLBer regardless which I don't say about most of this type. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
