2019-06-07 12:00:00 (link to chat)Has the future outlook on Seuly Matias changed with his start in A+ or is still just a matter of him further developing his hit tool?
(Penner from Ottawa)
So this is one of those ones where I am more nervous about two months of performance than I would be otherwise because it's a case of going wrong in the exact way it would go wrong if it were going to go wrong. It's not a death knell but his stock is down (oh this might actually be a 101 ranking I kick myself for) (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-02-25 16:00:00 (link to chat)Who is someone outside the top 25 in prospects that could be a top 5 prospect next year?
(Tommy from Atlanta)
Wander Javier?

Really, I'm not a prospect guy. I wrote the comments for most of the Royals, so I'm biased toward MJ Melendez and Seuly Matias (aka right-handed Joey Gallo). (Jon Hegglund)
2019-01-23 12:00:00 (link to chat)Seuly Matias has the big power, but unlike the comp in his top 10 profile, he hasn't shown the OBP/BB skills that Joey Gallo has. What are you all seeing that suggests he could get to some of his power in games, hence his ranking? Thanks!
(Steve from KC)
Well, he's gotten it into minor league games, so this isn't an Austin Beck or Leody Taveras type situation, but I get what you mean. It's an athleticism and swing bet, as he isn't as yolked up or long as your typical elite power guy and it's not an awful approach, perhaps just a bit raw for full season. We think it will come with more reps, but... (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-06-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Khalil Lee or Seuly Matias? Which prospect is better for a standard keeper league?
(Mike from Sacramento)
You are kidding, right? If not, ask Jeffrey or Mike. (Rob Mains)
2018-06-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are the Royals just stuck? MJ Melendez (love this kid's game!), Seuly Matias, and Khali Lee look like legitimate prospects, but their major league roster seems short on assets to ship out in exchange for quality young talent. Their prospect stable seems so far behind everyone else's.
(George from Columbus)
It's still a shallow system, yeah, but it's got impact talent at the top now which is an improvement and Singer and Kowar at least have some upside as college pitchers go. Maybe you get someone to bite on Whit Merrifield too, but yeah this is more a draft rebuild than a sell of rebuild, fortunately (?) they have another high pick for next year just about banked. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-04-20 12:00:00 (link to chat)Is Seuly Matias a candidate to shoot up prospect rankings this year?
(Junior from Chi)
I am rarely afraid to double down on an aggressive ranking, so sure. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-04-23 20:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Seuly Matias?
(Carl from Austin)
A 25 SwStr% rate is not great, Bob. His ability to make contact is a worry, but he's also 19 in High-A. Love the power long term. This is also a chance to plug Khalil Lee, his teammate whom I like more. (Eddy Almaguer)
2018-02-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)Is the Seuly Matias ranking based on his tools, or did they start to show up more in games last year?
(Ryan from Montreal)
More the former than the latter, but the tools are quite real. (Top 101 with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-01-31 14:00:00 (link to chat)I'm in a rookie draft at the moment expanding from 140 rostered to 210. Could you name a few guys that might have gotten overlook on the published top 100 lists but could be big movers in 2018. The only notable name left in my league are Alec Hansen, Jhailyn Ortiz, Nolan Jones.
(Chansen8895 from San Jose)
Those are some good names to target, for sure. Jones especially has seen his stock rise over the last calendar year. Some other names I like: Seuly Matias, Gabriel Maciel, Yonathan Diaz, Jesus Luzardo, and Dustin May. (Mark Barry)
2017-11-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat, JP! I checked the Davenport Peak Translation for Wander Javier, and his prime years look to be a 3-3.5 WAR regular. That's very good of course, but no better than obscure fellow teenage Appy Leaguer, centerfielder Wadye Ynfante, who hit .300/.370/.490 this year for his third straight season of a 130 or better wRC+. Can you tell me anything about Ynfante, or any other Appy League sleeper prospects? Thanks, JP!
(Dr. Benton Quest from Private Jet)
I can tell you that running MLEs for dudes in Appy ball is not where you should be spending your precious free time.

I can give you Appy League sleepers though: Seuly Matias is likely to make the 101. Jack loves Ronaldo Hernandez, Rays catcher. Luis Medina should't get lost in the shuffle of a deep Yankees system either. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)here comes the obligatory question...Can you name a few low level prospects that you can see flying up the ranking next season. Wander Javier seems to be a popular name at the moment
(Freddie from Akron)
Did Gleeman all send you in here with Wander Javier questions?

We are doing a low minors sleeper for each team this year, but some of the bigger names that have come up so far.

Luis Medina, Matt Sauer (NYY)
Ronaldo Hernandez, Resly Linares (TBR)
Francisco Morales (PHI)

About 10 different Padres

Lazarito (OAK)
Seuly Matias (KCR) (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-07-31 23:00:00 (link to chat)Seuly Matias worth keeping an eye on? Next pop up prospect?
(Peter from Jersey)
Very much worth keeping an eye on, and not at all in a pop=up way, he's legit and long-term (emphasis: looooooong). John had a good writeup of him in a recent 10 Pack, I'll point you in that direction: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=32342 (Wilson Karaman)
