2015-07-02 15:00:00 (link to chat) | Just wondered what you thought of Manny Banuelos's prospects in the longer term, and whether there's still a possibility of the pre-injury stuff coming back more? (Behemoth from Scotland) | I think that he's going to need that stuff to come back if he is going to carve out an MLB career. I was high on Banuelos potential as a prospect, but the mechanical efficiency was already decent which put more of the onus on development of his stuff. If the stuff hasn't survived injury - pitch command in particular - then he is in for a tough road. (Doug Thorburn) |
2014-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Manny Banuelos looks great in the box scores so far. Is it just SSS and being old for the level, or can Yankee's fans start to get more optimistic on him regaining his prior form? (Joe from Work) | I wouldn't get too worked up quite yet. Given how much I liked him before all the injuries stuck, I really want to jump back on the bandwagon, but I'm being cautious. Reports out of the starts haven't been overwhelming so far... (Mark Anderson) |
2013-09-06 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Are there any sources of pitching hope in the Yankee system? (Alex from Anaheim) | Most of the Yankee rays of hope are buried deep in the farm system. If Manny Banuelos returns safely from Tommy John surgery then he probably has the best chance to make an impact in the near future. But I expect the Yankees to continue to use their prospects in trade in order to buffer the major-league roster. (Doug Thorburn) |
2013-04-30 12:00:00 (link to chat) | When is Manny Banuelos slated to return? (padremurph from San Diego) | Banuelos underwent Tommy John surgery last October and the rule of thumb is usually a year. My guess is he probably won't return during the regular season. If he does it'll be near the end. (R.J. Anderson) |
2012-11-28 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Who plays Andrew Brackman in 2008 YANKEES SYSTEM? (bradleyankrom from nyny) | Manny Banuelos. Pretty sure 2008 was the one Brackman sat out while rehabbing from Tommy John. But I can also see an argument for Betances--starter with lousy control becomes bullpen guy. (Ben Lindbergh) |
2012-06-12 13:00:00 (link to chat) | How much stock do you put in production fall off for starting pitchers such as Shelby Miller, Jacob Turner and Manny Banuelos once they reach high level minors? Could it be that it takes a couple of years at higher levels for some guys, or does this affect their previous profiles a 1 or 2 starters? (Oldwell89 from NC) | A lot of stock, but if the scouting reports stay good then I calm down a bit.
That's all, thanks for the questions. (Sam Miller) |
2012-01-26 13:00:00 (link to chat) | MLB had Manny Banuelos ranked as the 12 best prospect for 2012. Is it me or is that insanely high given the big dump he took last year? (Tim from New York) | It's higher than I would have him, but I can see the argument. Banuelos could end up with three above-average pitches and a good command profile, all from the left side. That's a crazy good prospect. (Jason Parks) |
2012-01-26 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Aren't Manny Banuelos and Martin Perez essentially the same prospect? (Taylor from Amarillo) | They are similar but not the same. I'd take Perez over Banuelos because I think his stuff has a little more bite to it. (Jason Parks) |
2011-06-17 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you think scouting has advanced far enough in Mexico that a player like Manny Banuelos would go for
more than 400k today? (Adam from NY) | Good question. Yes and no. I think you can still find relatively unknown talent in the region, but buying the player away from his Mexican league team is always pricey. (Jason Parks) |
2011-04-13 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you think Yankees did something wrong with Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain, or do their struggles fall under the heading of young pitchers will break your heart?
I find myself turning my eyes (and hopes) to Manny Banuelos... (Rob from Andover, CT) | It's easy to look back and question the way the Yanks handled both arms. That said, its not uncommon for "can't miss" pitchers to miss. I think Hughes still has a bright future. I can't say the same for Chamberlain. Banuelos should develop into a solid starter at the major league level, but if he fails to take that final step, I'm not sure how much the Yankees will be to blame. (Jason Parks) |
