2021-06-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)How do you rank these 3 pitchers for future value? Grayson Rodriguez, Max Meyer and Edward Cabrera.
(Mark from New York)
I'd go in that order, though I appreciate the inclusion of Cabrera who is underrated. (Craig Goldstein)
2021-03-26 13:00:00 (link to chat) 8x8 mixed (OBP, SLG, HR,RBI,SB,TB+W,AVG..W,SV,IP,QS,K,K/9,ERA,WHIP)...can keep 2021,22,23 can only keep 7, have to cut 4... Brennan Davis, Geraldo Perdomo, Nolan Gorman, Heliot Ramos, Brandon Marsh, Marco Luciano, Austin Martin, Emerson Hancock, Grayson Rodriguez, Nick Lodolo, Braylen Marquez
(jepoyntz from North Carolina)
Not exactly sure whether you can only keep these players through 2023. If so, I'd cut Marquez, Rodriguez, Perdomo, and Hancock. I think Lodolo is the best bet of those arms to maximize that window. (Jesse Roche)
2021-01-21 12:00:00 (link to chat)Among the Mets top-3, who do you see having the most realistic upside? Do you think all have top-20 overall potential?
(dabu7 from Queens)
Allan is the most likely to click and end up in a Shane Baz or Grayson Rodriguez type range after a real season. Top 20 might be pushing it at least for 2022, but if you told me he was at some point one of the five or so best pitching prospects in baseball, well it's not impossible. It's weird to say no on mauricio who has been and is the highest ranked, but for some reason I'm less confident on him coming off a badly needed lost season. Alvarez? Well, it's tough for me to rank a non-elite catching prospect in the top 20, and I don't think he ever quite gets there. But weirdly you could make a case he's more likely to be Top 50 than Allan, given intrinsic pitching prospect risks. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2020-11-13 12:00:00 (link to chat)without a minor league season, how can we assess which spects took a step forward last year and which ones took a step backwards?
(brad from NJ)
Obviously you can look at Ian Anderson and say "oh that's a 7 change up now," but for guys without non-MLB time you are mostly looking for broad strokes. DL Hall is throwing harder now and throwing more strikes (enough strikes? Well, we'll see). Grayson Rodriguez maintained his velocity bump. To cite two examples from today's list. There's examples in the other direction too, but nothing is gonna replace the developmental reps you get in games. That said, there's some percentage of the prospect population that got major gains this year, and some percentage that took a step back. It's just much more difficult to discern. I've having a great time, thanks for asking. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2020-04-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)The comparables for Grayson Rodriguez in the 2020 book were staggering: Glasnow, Kershaw & Giolito. What do you think the driving forces were for these comps? Thanks for your insights.
(CubbieBear from Chi-Town)
Those are heady, but it's worth noting the comps are mostly for fun. Steven Goldman did a great job digging into them for this article (and how they're not tethered to the projections): https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/56959/pecota-2020-the-most-bizarre-comparables/ (Craig Goldstein)
2020-02-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think we're talking about Blake Walston and/or Luis Frias as top 100 dynasty prospects a few months or a year from now? Walston strikes me as an under the radar guy who could really ascend lists in a single season like Nate Pearson.
(Mike from Tempe)
Walston is no Nate Pearson, but he could rise similar to Grayson Rodriguez if he impresses in full-season ball. Not sure he will be assigned there, though. Frias has a nice arsenal, but he needs to refine his command and he turns 22 in May. He will need to make big moves through the system to crack top 100s. I imagine he starts in High-A. (Jesse Roche)
2020-01-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)BP seems to be the outlier on DL Hall, completely outside your 101 despite being inside the top-50 elsewhere. What is the rationale there?
(LindoMafia from Baltimore)
We think there is reliever risk based on the control/command and third pitch issues. I'm also personally not a huge fan of the delivery. Again, the difference between him and like Manoah isn't particularly vast, but I do think there's a fair gap between him and say, Grayson Rodriguez. (Top 101 Prospects Chat)
2019-11-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which players appear to have benefitted the most from the new player development system brought in by Mike Elias?
(The Oriole Report from Baltimore, MD)
So there's usually a year or so lag for major organizational changes with a new GM (Elias is just bringing in his own PD and scouting staff now), so I don't think you can really pin, say, Grayson Rodriguez's breakout on new PD techniques. There's just going to be too much noise here. I suppose actually letting him throw a cutter is a step in the right direction though. (Baltimore Orioles Top 10 Chat)

2019-11-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Jose Fernandez was 1-14 in the 2011 draft, pitched 2012 in A-ball, then went right to the Show. Grayson Rodriguez was 1-11 in the 2018 draft, pitched 2019 in A-ball, and won’t. For Orioles fandom, is Jose Fernandez his 99th percentile, or maybe only his 90-95th percentile? Curious how far Fernandez was ahead of Rodriguez from a scouting perspective?
(Joe from Hunt Valley)
Fernandez was immediately a top ten prospect after his first pro season. Rodriguez won't be quite that high. There was more complete stuff with an advanced feel that Rodriguez doesn't have yet, which is fine, 95% of good prep arms don't at 19. That gives you an idea of the percentile outcome too. And evem Fernandez smashed what his median projection would have been pre-2013. (Baltimore Orioles Top 10 Chat)
2019-08-16 12:00:00 (link to chat)In terms of future ceiling and realistic likelihood of achieving it, who do you like better out of Grayson Rodriguez and Spencer Howard?
(Abel Archer from Travis AFB)
Howard is both closer to the majors and has the better present stuff. You could argue Rodriguez has more ceiling, but not significantly so. I think they are going to be fairly close on the 101 when it shakes out. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-08-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)In terms of future ceiling and realistic likelihood of achieving it, who do you like better out of Grayson Rodriguez and Spencer Howard?
(Abel Archer from Edwards AFB)
I think I'd roll with Howard (Craig Goldstein)
2019-06-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)How would you rank these pitchers in a dynasty format? Deivi Garcia, Ryan Weathers, Griffin Canning, Grayson Rodriguez, Jordan Balazovic, and Zac Gallen... thank you!
(Nathan from Florida)
Man the Garcia talk has been extreme. I prrrobably slot him over Canning and Gallen and have it like this:

Garcia, Gallen, Canning, Weathers, Rodriguez, Balazovic (Craig Goldstein)
2019-06-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)How would you stack up Nate Pearson, Shane McClanahan, and Grayson Rodriguez in terms of upside, risk, overall package? Thanks!
(John from Philly)
Pearson, Rodriguez, McClanahan. I think McClanahan might be underrated a touch but I'd still place him third here. We just had him in a Ten Pack last week, for subscribers. (Craig Goldstein)
2019-05-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)Would you drop Luis Garcia (WAS) for any of: Grayson Rodriguez, Abraham Toro, Logan Allen, Brady Singer, Jackson Kower, or Jordan Groshans?
(Alex from Austin)
It's important to remember that Garcia is a 19-year-old in Double-A. He should be allowed to struggle for a bit. I wouldn't drop him for any of those players that you mentioned. Groshans would be the one to watch, though. (J.P. Breen)
