2020-11-13 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Of the Michael King, Clarke Schmidt, Nick Nelson, Miguel Yajure, and Albert Abreu, which do you think are most likely to end up as a starter or have an impact in 2021? (ari blum from New York ) | King is the most likely starter, but would have less of an impact as a starter than Schmidt, but I'm less convinced Schmidt is a starter. If that all makes sense. Nelson is more of a fun utility arm and I suspect Yajure and Abreu both end up relievers. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2020-10-07 13:00:00 (link to chat) | How would you rank debuters Brady Singer, Dane Dunning, Clarke Schmidt, Garrett Crochet, Kris Bubic & Cristian Javier for the future? (The Colonel from Pasadena, CA) | I think Crochet has the highest upside but the medical concerns are legitimate. You're kind of *hoping* this is an elbow related issue and not shoulder (I know, it's a forearm strain), but that's not a great place to be. The stuff is unreal though. Otherwise:
Javier, Dunning, Singer, Schmidt, Bubic.
I kinda like all of them? Could easily flip Schmidt and Singer, imo. I wouldn't feel about about having any of these guys. (Craig Goldstein) |
2020-09-18 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Can you compare and contrast Brady Singer, Clarke Schmidt and Dane Dunning? Dunning seems recovered from arm woes. Do you see one being better than the others? (The Colonel from Pasadena, CA) | I'm a little down on Schmidt--not from his debut, just from his situation and upside. I'm not sure there's impact there, and if that's the case, that organization is loaded with right-handed starters, so he'll keep getting knocked down the totem pole.
I've been really impressed with Singer/Dunning, though. I'd like to see Dunning walk fewer guys. He's getting a little lucky with BABIP/strand rate, which is fine as long as you're not walking guys. (Mark Barry) |
2020-09-23 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Would you put Garrett Crochet in the group with Clarke Schmidt, Dane Dunning, Kris Bubic? 55 OFP? (The Colonel from Pasadena) | I don't have a specific OFP on him, but I think the ceiling on a guy who can regularly hit triple-digits and has a plus-plus slider is higher than that, if a usable changeup (or other third pitch) develops. (Craig Goldstein) |
2020-08-26 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Free Clarke Schmidt! When can we expect him and just wondering what should we expect from him in a full season? (Moira from Schmidt's Creek) | I suppose it could be as soon as one of the doubleheaders this weekend against the Mets. We were low on him this offseason and the slider might be present MLB plus at minimum. The Yankees don't always thrust these guys right into the rotation though and I could see him as more of a back and forth role similar to how they have used Loaisiga the last couple seasons. Similar durability concerns too I suppose. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2019-05-10 13:00:00 (link to chat) | How excited should I be about Clarke Schmidt? (Kevin from Chanahon) | I would never dream of telling you how to feel. Personally, I'm interested, but would like to see how he does in Double A, especially since he's already 23 years old. (Mark Barry) |
