2017-02-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which side of the Robert Gsellman is really good vs Robert Gsellman isn't that good argument are you on?
(Q from NYC)
I'm of the opinion that Gsellman is really good, if only because Warthen seems to be able to take guys who I think will be bad (See: deGrom, Jacob) and mold them into mid-K, low walk geniuses. Gsellman wasn't just making due with a good ERA and bad peripherals either. I do think he might be in that rough luck 6th starter world for a bit, like a Tyler Lyons of Queens, which might take the shine off of him. But he can pitch, I'd wager, and I think he'll be a rotation mainstay after the Mets lose some of their top tier arms. (Trevor Strunk)
2015-07-23 17:00:00 (link to chat)Wacha and Martinez are both in uncharted waters innings-wise. Last year Wacha's shoulder broke at 100IP and he's past that now. Is it crazy for the Cards to expect (or make) these two to go 100IP more plus Oct?
(George M. from Bloomington, IL)
That seems like a lot for both, and particularly for Martinez. I do wonder if this means we'll see a little bit more of Tim Cooney and perhaps Tyler Lyons down the stretch. A trade is possible I suppose, but the Cardinals haven't been linked to anyone so I'd expect a low end deal if they do make one and not a trade for one of the big arms potentially on the market. (Mike Gianella)
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of my doppleganger Tyler Lyons? He posted a 3.73 FIF, and that is considering that Matheny only deployed him against lefty's 1/4 of the time.
(Al Leiter from Keeping my head down, until the Christie scandal b)
The Cards have one of the deepest rotations in baseball and Lyons doesn't belong in the convo with the other guys on their roster. He's either a bullpen arm or someone else's fifth starter. Not much of a fantasy factor, even if every Cardinals starter magically transforms into a top-60 option. (Ben Carsley)
2013-05-22 18:00:00 (link to chat)Got a quick take on Tyler Lyons, latest product of the Cardinals' pitching assembly line? Incidentally, who's next out of that factory after Lyons?
(Bill from New Mexico)
I'd hope Wacha would be next in line after Lyons. He has much more upside while Lyons is a very back end type of guy. (Jason Collette)
