2019-07-09 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Jacob DeGrom is a __, Pete Alonso is a __, Jeff McNeil is a __ and Michael Conforto is a __.
(numerical grades) (Dax from METS) | So the position players are all 6s (Alonso has projection past that, but we'll see how it plays out) to me. deGrom is an interesting case and Jarrett and I have discussed this for a while. We both agree that he's an ace, so then it comes down to wear you draw the line for an 8. By any WAR metric he's been a top five pitcher since 2015, Scherzer is the only one clearly better, than it's usually a tier of him, Sale, Greinke, Kershaw, Verlander. So while I tend to be more conservative with 8s than Jarrett, I think it's tough not to argue all those arms aren't 8s. But if you want to ding deGrom some for occasional durability issues and call him a high end 7, I get it. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2017-09-29 12:00:00 (link to chat) | So what does a Jacob Degrom extension look like? Does 5 yrs 75mil get it done? (Riley from mets) | So deGrom has three years of arb left at Super 2. He might easily get 35m just in arb, and as we have seen the Mets are not inclined to non-tender their young pitchers. They really should have done this before the 2016 season when he was fishing around for it. I think he'd want 6 years and more AAV on the FA buyout years now. At least I would if I was his agent. 6/110 maybe? Mets should still do that. They aren't replacing him at less than twice that. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2017-02-02 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Jacob Degrom has been pretty easily been a top 7 SP over the last 3 years. Why does it seem like he's never mentioned during the best/top 10 SPs convo? (Career ERA+ 138) (Sammy from NY) | I think it's because we all thought he was going to be bad, haha. I think typically, people hate admitting they were wrong, and that comes out in baseball all too often in the discourse of "Well look, he's gonna regress." Think of it like pre-decline Matt Cain -- I think deGrom has proved everything he has to, and should soon be getting Cy Young mentions and list nods; I just think he had to fight against all of us kind of rolling our eyes at his early success to do it. (Trevor Strunk) |
2016-03-14 14:30:00 (link to chat) | Jacob DeGrom or Gerrit Cole? (Calvin from Pitt) | Can't go wrong, but I'll take Cole. (Brendan Gawlowski) |
2014-10-17 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Any under the radar pitching prospects or young pitchers who could surprise next year by taking a big step forward like Corey Kluber, or to a lesser extent Carlos Carrasco and Jacob DeGrom? Thanks. (John from Texas) | Do I look like Jason Parks?
I guess I do, kind of. Can we get a ruling on this? (Andy McCullough) |
