2020-12-11 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Dane Dunning or Cristian Javier?
Brady Singer or Triston McKenzie? (The Colonel from Pasadena, CA) | Dunning, somewhat comfortably. Singer, but it's close (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2020-10-07 13:00:00 (link to chat) | How would you rank debuters Brady Singer, Dane Dunning, Clarke Schmidt, Garrett Crochet, Kris Bubic & Cristian Javier for the future? (The Colonel from Pasadena, CA) | I think Crochet has the highest upside but the medical concerns are legitimate. You're kind of *hoping* this is an elbow related issue and not shoulder (I know, it's a forearm strain), but that's not a great place to be. The stuff is unreal though. Otherwise:
Javier, Dunning, Singer, Schmidt, Bubic.
I kinda like all of them? Could easily flip Schmidt and Singer, imo. I wouldn't feel about about having any of these guys. (Craig Goldstein) |
2020-09-18 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Can you compare and contrast Brady Singer, Clarke Schmidt and Dane Dunning? Dunning seems recovered from arm woes. Do you see one being better than the others? (The Colonel from Pasadena, CA) | I'm a little down on Schmidt--not from his debut, just from his situation and upside. I'm not sure there's impact there, and if that's the case, that organization is loaded with right-handed starters, so he'll keep getting knocked down the totem pole.
I've been really impressed with Singer/Dunning, though. I'd like to see Dunning walk fewer guys. He's getting a little lucky with BABIP/strand rate, which is fine as long as you're not walking guys. (Mark Barry) |
2020-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What can you tell me about Brady Singer, a rhp who is presently pitching in the KC Royals orgn. ? (Baseball Junkie from Mississauga, Canada) | Our prospect team detailed Singer here: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/article/56329/2020-prospects-kansas-city-royals-top-10-prospects/
Singer is the type of prospect who is better than his raw stuff. The report reads, in part, "He is a healthy, durable, consistent, strike-throwing, polished arm with an excellent performance track record and pedigree. He is a fiery competitor with advanced pitchability."
"The fastball sits low 90s, up to 95 with run and sink, generating plenty of groundballs. His command of the pitch is plus, allowing it to play up past the average velocity readings. Singer’s best secondary is a firm, low-80s slider that is above-average, but lacks elite movement, and is not consistently a swing-and-miss pitch. He is excellent at manipulating the shape of both the fastball and slider, allowing him to consistently give hitters different looks. There is a changeup as a third offering, but he rarely uses it, and it doesn’t feature any kind of above-average action."
I think Singer is a pretty safe 4-starter with 3-starter upside, but he does lack the type of high-end fantasy ceiling you are often chasing with pitching prospects. (Jesse Roche) |
2019-05-31 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Would you drop Luis Garcia (WAS) for any of: Grayson Rodriguez, Abraham Toro, Logan Allen, Brady Singer, Jackson Kower, or Jordan Groshans? (Alex from Austin) | It's important to remember that Garcia is a 19-year-old in Double-A. He should be allowed to struggle for a bit. I wouldn't drop him for any of those players that you mentioned. Groshans would be the one to watch, though. (J.P. Breen) |
