Troy Percival - $12M for 2 years when his K/IP rate was in freefall
Todd Jones - over $17M for 3 years when he was never consistently great
On the other hand, besides letting Lyon go, he's let others sign Jamie Walker and Fernando Rodney to long term deals. At least he doesn't tend to reward middle relievers with multi-year deals. Are the Tigers really caught in no-man's land at this point? While the decision to be buyers or sellers is a difficult one for this team, there's not really much they could do, in terms of improving or dumping, anyway, right? (Ryan from Atlanta) | They are in a tough position, but they're smart and creative. I think they could do a number of things that would help themselves if they choose to. They could deal Ivan Rodriguez for help, plug Brandon Inge in, and see what happens. They could deal Todd Jones or Joel Zumaya, given the reliever market. Never count out the Tigers. Although he has not thrown an MLB pitch in 2024, Todd Jones threw 1,012 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2007 and 2008, all of them occuring in Spring Training. In 2008, he relied primarily on his Sinker (91mph) and Cutter (88mph), also mixing in a Fourseam Fastball (91mph), Curve (72mph) and Change (81mph).
