2015-08-25 13:00:00 (link to chat) | With the likely departure of Alfredo Simon do you think both Boyd & Fulmer both start in Detroit next year ? (Brady from Gary, IN) | If you mean start in Detroit in a way that means begin the season in Detroit, I don't think that's likely. Both guys will be in that rotation though. Fulmer might be the most improved prospect in all of baseball. Sometimes these things just take time. (Christopher Crawford) |
2015-04-16 17:00:00 (link to chat) | Can you fix my real favorite team too? Seriously though, would you rather pick up Jose Quintana or Alfredo Simon in a 12-team mixed? (Alex from Anaheim) | I don't have enough money.
Quintana, and that's a no brainer. Simon's first two starts looks pretty but that K/9 portends that he won't keep it up. (Mike Gianella) |
2015-01-08 12:00:00 (link to chat) | What "effective "pitcher that is older than 30 do you see not being effective in the American and national league in 2015? (allangustafson from San Diego ) | Mark Buehrle has to be one, right? I mean, his witch magic is going to run out at some point.
I do think Edinson Volquez's "effective" 2014 was a mirage. his K% and BB% don't inspire confidence, and I think he comes back to Earth quite a bit this year. As for the AL ... the former Oriole Alfredo Simon who was acquired by Detroit is a huge regression candidate. His K% never matched the stuff, and his ugly peripherals will start to catch up with him against better offenses. (Jeff Long) |
2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat) | 20 team dynasty league trade: Coco Crisp + Alfredo Simon + Joaquin Benoit for Desmond + Craig Gentry + Jean Machi, fair trade or obvious winner? (Jon from Detroit) | Depends a lot on the situations. In a vacuum I like the Desmond-Gentry-Machi side more, but it very much depends on need in my opinion. (Mauricio Rubio) |
2014-05-21 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I just traded Julio Teheran for Justin Verlander. Even trade or will Teheran continue to outperform Verlander ROS? (cubfan131 from IA) | That's a perfect sell-high, buy-low. That phrase is used too often and usually unrealistically ("sell high on Alfredo Simon!" ... yeah cool, cuz I can totally get Stanton for him... GTFOHWTS!!!) I LOVE Teheran (he is my NL Cy Young pick), but there is at least *some* regression coming in those numbers while I believe Verlander will iron himself out as the season evolves. Might feel scary after last night from the pair, but I like it. (Paul Sporer) |
2010-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Which closer loses his job first, regardless of cause (injury/ineffectiveness/etc):
Axford, Simon, Street, Wagner (Andy from Chicago) | Alfredo Simon. John Axford's mustache precludes him from long-term ineffectiveness, and also acts as a self-healing miracle worker. (Marc Normandin) |
No BP Roundtables have mentioned this guy.
