2014-01-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)What odds would you give for Kevin Youkilis winning the 2014 MVP award for the Japan Pacific League?
(Paul from DC)
All Wladimir everything (Craig Goldstein)
2013-04-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)It's so much better here. You have no idea what you're missing, Bostonians. I'm a new man!
(Kevin Youkilis from NY)
See, now I know this isn't really Kevin Youkilis.

In all seriousness, so many people both in the major leagues and in the analytical community counted Youkilis out, but not me. Don't get me wrong, he's not a third baseman at this point in his career, but he can still hit and get on base. The issue to me is when he gets hurt, how serious will it be? (Matthew Kory)
2013-04-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)What a great stat on Josh Donaldson and grounding into double plays! Any other gambling tidbits? Love me those mid-April, baseball prop bets!
(Charles Barkley from Undisclosed Underground Bunker)
Bet on Kevin Youkilis getting hit by a pitch oh wait that already happened sorry. (Matthew Kory)
2011-12-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Nick Castellanos will develop enough power to be an an above average first division third baseman? Is a Kevin Youkilis type offensive ceiling a good comp.?
(KirkPugsley from Pontiac, MI)
I don't think so. Very good hitter, but obviously a better value at 3B than 1B. Solid-avg w/ a chance for 1st division if everything comes together (and it never does). (Jason Parks)
2011-06-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)I vote for The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. The endless stare-down scene before the final shootout is Jeter adjusting his gloves. And Kevin Youkilis stars as The Ugly.
(Russell from NYC)
Very clever, but I have an extremely high tolerance for watching Clint Eastwood scowl. (Ben Lindbergh)
2011-06-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Ben, in my standard 6x6 roto league, I just accepted a trade of Kevin Youkilis and Shin-Soo Choo for Paul Konerko. Is it just me or did I get fantastic value for the rest of Konerko's season, which HAS to be somewhat of a regression.
(SnakeDoctor18 from NY)
You gave up Konerko and got both of those guys? Apologies if my next answer is delayed, as I'm starting a slow clap...now. (Ben Lindbergh)
2010-12-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)With Adrian Gonzalez in the fold, I guess Kevin Youkilis moves back to third. How big of hit defensively are the Red Sox taking with this move?
(Greg from Boston)
Youkilis is a very good fielding first baseman. Gonzalez is better. Beltre is a better third baseman than Youkilis, but Youk is still pretty good at the hot corner. Given the offensive performance of Gonzalez and how we shouldn't have expected a repeat performance from Beltre this year anyway, it's negligible at best in terms of overall value. (Eric Seidman)
2010-10-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Great work on Red Sox Beacon! Assuming Beltre doesn't come back, who do you see playing 3B next year?
(Casey from Memphis)
Thanks! That's much appreciated. Patrick Sullivan and I are enjoying our new outlet, and I'm excited to be able to spend some more time on the Red Sox with my writing.

I'm pretty convinced Adrian Beltre isn't coming back, which was kind of a sad realization. My guess is that Kevin Youkilis will play third for the Sox next year, and they will set about finding a first baseman--either a permanent solution (which will probably cost them Anthony Rizzo in a trade) or a one-year stopgap so they can insert Rizzo into the role in 2012. (Marc Normandin)
2010-08-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)How are you feeling, Steven? No muscles tearing off your thumb I trust.
(mattymatty2000 from Portland, OR)
I'm good. Fractured my ankle recently (the reason I missed the last chat) but got the cast off yesterday so I'm a happy guy. As for the Kevin Youkilis's thumb injury to which you refer, holy bad timing, Batman. The Yankees are faltering and the schedule delivers a four-game series that, with a good showing, could put the Red Sox back in the thick of things. Without Youk, their ability to take advantage is in doubt. (Steven Goldman)
2010-07-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Cost accelerators make a ton of sense in a Keeper League, but the big draw for me in a Dynasty League is the larger retained roster and the idea that if you love Kevin Youkilis and have tracked him since he was drafted, you can keep him as long as you want, grow old with him, shed tears as he retires...
(Aaron from YYZ)
I'm so much more heartless than that. (Marc Normandin)
2010-05-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)As a Giants fan, can I please use this chat to introduce the rumor that the Red Sox want to trade for Bengie Molina?
(ted from the cubicle)
Hey, I just heard from a baseball source deep inside my head that the Red Sox are willing to trade Kevin Youkilis to the Giants for Bengie Molina! How about that for a rumor-starter? (John Perrotto)
2008-11-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)First, the very best of health to you, sir. I hope your various maladies are not plaguing you at present. Second, I'm perplexed by the Mark Teixeira to the Red Sox rumors. Sure, Tex is a great player, but the Red Sox already possess two more years of both Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis. Now, neither is Teixeira (though Youkilis was this year), but neither is a slouch at the plate or in the field either. Looking beyond that, the Red Sox have Lars Anderson, who tore it up in A and AA and who projects to be ready for Boston by the time Lowell's contract expires. Taking all of this together, does it really make sense for Theo to spend $150+ Million of John Henry's money on what amounts to a slight up-grade?
(mattymatty from Philly)
The maladies are quiescent, thanks, and nothing troubling me at present except for some stitches in inconvenient places. I have turned down two TV opportunities this week because I look like someone punched me in the eye. Who knew I would be in demand the second week of November? I agree with your take, Matty. (Steven Goldman)
2008-04-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)On the Jewish question -- there was an August 2006 game between the Red Sox and Tigers where Boston had Gabe Kapler and Adam Stern starting in the outfield.... and Kevin Youkilis (who's Jewish/Romanian and not actually Greek) starting in the infield. Alas, God apparently did not approve, and the game was rained out after four innings.
(Member of (non-Cleveland) Tribe from Medford, MA)
Just passing this on. (Nate Silver)
