2020-09-30 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hi Craig,
A lot of Cs debuted this season that have the potential to be at least average-everyday catchers. Any changes +/- from last seasons' write-ups that you saw from their major-league time for Tyler Stephenson, Keibert Ruiz, Ryan Jeffers, William Contreras, Sam Huff, Alejandro Kirk, Luis Campusano? (The Colonel from Pasadena, CA) | Great Q. I like Stephenson more than I did before. Jeffers impressed but I don't think I'd roll with him for 130+ (and the Twins don't need to). Keibert, no change. Contreras no real change. I didn't get to see much Huff. I've been low on Kirk. I think he can really hit but idk that he's a regular backstop. Campusano is still the class of the position as a prospect. (Craig Goldstein) |
2020-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Who are your favorite young catchers after Rutschman for dynasty purposes? (Jordan from Milwaukee) | I could just point to our Top 101 and our Top 40 catchers, but where is the fun in that? After Rutschman, my rankings are:
2. Joey Bart 3. Daulton Varsho 4. Sean Murphy 5. Luis Campusano 6. Francisco Alvarez 7. Keibert Ruiz 8. Zack Collins 9. Diego Cartaya 10. Tyler Stephenson 11. Ivan Herrera 12. Miguel Amaya 13. Sam Huff 14. Andrew Knizner 15. Ryan Jeffers 16. William Contreras 17. Alejandro Kirk 18. Gabriel Moreno 19. Ronaldo Hernandez 20. Cal Raleigh 21. Bo Naylor 22. Mario Feliciano 23. Shea Langeliers 24. Connor Wong 25. Korey Lee (Jesse Roche) |
2019-11-13 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What's the upside for someone like Alejandro Kirk. If he retains C eligibility, could he be a top 10 guy? (Frank from Carlsbad, CA) | Sure. He's a better catcher than Astudillo, but somehow a worse frame for the position. It's an odd profile and I doubt he has Astudillos positional flexibility so he's gonna be C or bust. (Toronto Blue Jays Top 10 Chat) |
2019-07-19 12:00:00 (link to chat) | Alejandro Kirk is fun, right? (Dan from California) | Fun is exactly the word I would use. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2019-05-10 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Alejandro Kirk is a name I hadn't heard until this year, and he seems particularly impressive as a hitter. If he sticks at catcher, that's something special? (Freida from Wisconsin) | I don't know a ton about him, but that line looks awfully tasty. (Mark Barry) |
2019-05-29 13:00:00 (link to chat) | All Alejandro Kirk does is hit. (Carls from St Louis) | It's true because he sure doesn't field or run. (Craig Goldstein) |
2019-05-17 16:00:00 (link to chat) | Is Alejandro Kirk a potential Astudillo who can take a walk? Wouldn't that make him a top tier catcher if he makes it? (Cameron from South Dakota) | That's a tough comp to put on anyone...Astudillo's particular hit tool is almost a unicorn. Sure, if Kirk could maintain a whiff rate that low I'd tag him with that. I'd like to see him at Double-A and see if that BB/SO holds. (Mike Gianella) |
