2020-05-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)In a 20 team dynasty league. I have Acuna but I’m thinking of moving him. Would a return of Tatis & Devers or Tatis & Lux be enough? Thanks.
(horns1c from Texas)
I loathe moving elite young talent like Ronald Acuna Jr.; however, I would move him in a heartbeat for Fernando Tatis Jr. and Rafael Devers, both of which are top-15 dynasty assets. (Jesse Roche)
2020-04-03 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Jesse! Hope all is well and you are staying safe. When looking through reports are there physical attributes or scout type words that you look for when comparing deeper/younger prospects. IE physical projection vs already filled out. Thanks!
(coffeeguy8806 from Chicagoooo)
Thanks! Doing my best to stay safe here in Greensboro. Hope you're doing well in Chicago!

For deeper/younger prospects, I look for bat speed, bat-to-ball ability, raw power, and raw speed. In fact, the physical aspects that may be the easiest to scout for these prospects are what draws my eye. Things like strike zone judgment, plate discipline, all-fields ability, spin recognition, etc. are easier to develop over time and are extremely variable for young hitters.

As for pitchers, I want to see present fastball velocity and at least one promising secondary. Command and repertoire depth take time to develop. Athleticism and a good frame (6-foot-2 to 6-foot-5) is also ideal. Bigger/smaller often equates to relief risk in some shape or form. A clean, repeatable delivery is a plus, while balancing against deception.

I do not really ascribe by the physical projection mantra. It really needs a lot of context as some body types, while thin, are simply not likely to add impact weight as they mature. Guys like Triston McKenzie, for instance, are not going to suddenly not be pencil thin. I like high-waisted, long-legged, and broad-shouldered frames. An ideal scout frame is Fernando Tatis Jr. I am all about a foundation to build from rather than hoping that foundation eventually develops.

This really should be an article for the prospect team. I'll pass the idea along. (Jesse Roche)
2019-08-28 12:00:00 (link to chat)I once saw in a BP chat where a dude confessed to trading Fernando Tatis Jr. for Luis Perdomo. It crosses my mind more than it probably should. I wonder where that poor guy is now.
(Steve from New Mexico)
Mostly ranking berries in BP chats probably. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2019-07-01 12:00:00 (link to chat)I'm in dead last and totally rebuilding my team in a keeper fantasy league. I almost certainly will have the top pick in our draft this winter and the top 3 choices are Vladito, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Yordan Alvarez. Whom would you select?
(Chino5 from Somers, CT)
This could change over the balance of the season, but it's got to be Tatis at this point. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2018-09-10 14:00:00 (link to chat)Seeing all these dynasty league questions today reminded me of the time I traded Fernando Tatis Jr. for Luis Perdomo. It wasn't as long ago as you might hope, either. Womp womp.
(Jonny from Los Angeles)
Oh boy. I hung on to Perdomo for a real long time in a dynasty too. Didn't have to give up anything like that for him, though. (Darius Austin)
2018-07-16 19:00:00 (link to chat)Is Ronny Marucio potentially the next Fernando Tatis? He's looked awful impressive so far and has the same sort of projectable body.
(Bailey from Maryland)
We just ranked Fernando Tatis Jr. as the second-best prospect in baseball. Let's tap the breaks here. (Jarrett Seidler)
2017-08-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)What does the future for Fernando Tatis Jr. look like? Does he stick at shortstop?
(Dave from Williamsburg)
Sorry, Dave, I don't know. Jarrett on whether he sticks at shortstop: "Probably not." (Rob Mains)
2017-07-31 23:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks Wilson. Am I wrong to be amazed at the power Fernando Tatis Jr. is showing at 18 in the Midwest League? Just how high is his ceiling now?
(Keith from Farmington, CT)
It's pretty, pretty obscene. We had him 22nd on our mid-season list. If he keeps making enough contact, he can be a + speed, + game power monster.

I still can't pin down my thoughts on this record, but it has kept on making me work to figure it out, and ipso facto is worth a spin (which may lead to 16 more): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xync-guDAa0 (Wilson Karaman)
2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks guys. How much improvement would you say Fernando Tatis Jr. has made with the hit tool this year? Even with a 26 percent K rate, his overall performance at 18 seems amazing.
(Keith from Farmington, CT)
What he's doing at 18 is amazing. He's went from being a borderline prospect when the White Sox traded him to a legitimate top prospect. He needs to cut down on the strikeouts but the power is real, two hardest hits I've seen all year have been by him.
-Nathan (Emmett Rosenbaum & Nathan Graham)
2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)Purely Fantasy wise - Keston Hiura or Fernando Tatis Jr?
(James from Columbus)
Sorry, not a fantasy expert and I haven't seen Hiura in person yet but I do know that Fernando Tatis Jr. has plus power and speed.
-Nathan (Emmett Rosenbaum & Nathan Graham)
2017-07-25 20:00:00 (link to chat)Is Fernando Tatis Jr. a top 10 prospect next year? Hes making contact, and that power/speed combo is very intriguing.
(Dave from Williamsburg)
He was #22 on our mid-season prospect list this year as an 18 year old so I think that there is a real chance he cracks the top ten next year.
-Nathan (Emmett Rosenbaum & Nathan Graham)
2017-04-05 23:00:00 (link to chat)What's the farthest distance, in miles, one should drive to watch Fernando Tatis Jr. this season?
(D from United States)
Depends on traffic conditions and marital status, but 2-3 hours if you're willing to make a day of it. He's going to be fun even if he doesn't pan out. (Wilson Karaman)
2017-02-14 12:00:00 (link to chat)It seems lately following low minor SS's is fun. Heading into this season some names of interest are Miguelangel Sierra and Fernando Tatis Jr. I am not sure how to interpret their performances from last year and what to expect. Care to hit us with some knowledge on these players to make a informed decision?
(David from Not Sure)
Sierra's a polished glove, good shot to stick, the power was more Appy elevation than actual raw pop and he's gonna need some refinement at the plate. Tats is less likely to stick, but has more offensive upside. We actually had a fun internal conversation about it Tatito was Vladito and vice versa, what their respective national profiles would be.

My lightning round isn't much quicker is it? (The Top 101 Prospect Chat with Jeffrey Paternostro)
2017-02-06 23:00:00 (link to chat)Yo Wilson. It seems a smart move is to draft low minor SS. Heading into this season some early targets on my list are Miguelangel Sierra and Fernando Tatis Jr. I am not sure how to interpret their performances from last year and what to expect. Care to hit us with some knowledge on these players to make a informed decision?
(David from Not Sure)
Sierra is a kid we got great internals on during list-making. I wouldn't get too caught up in the Appy HR total, as he was appropriately exposed as Not Manny Ramirez in the NYPL. But he's got the goods to develop into a real good SS, with a stick to be valuable at the position. Tatis is veeeery likely a 3B, and he's already shown a bunch of aggressive swing-and-miss, but there's a quality fantasy bat in here somewhere. Always bet on big-league bloodlines when in doubt, and take a last-round flyer if your league goes 175-200 deep - maaaybe 150 if you're feeling salty? (Wilson Karaman)
2017-02-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Yo George.
Hey there. Um. I have irrational love for Bo Bichette. It's always difficult to assess hitters in the low minors that are nearly half a decade away from the majors. I think you have to start off by gauging the defense. Can this hitter stick at shortstop? If yes, then it becomes about future projection, not necessarily scouting the stat-line. Park factors and environments matter too. (George Bissell)
