2021-02-04 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Where would a healthy Andres Munoz fall among those best non-closers? (Burr from NYC) | Close to the top. When healthy, Munoz's stuff matches Graterol just with less command. (Jesse Roche) |
2020-09-02 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Which team struck your favorite deal and why? (Jimmy Nutron from Space) | While I really like the Mike Clevinger trade for the Padres (and I think it is a perfectly adequate haul for the Indians), my favorite deal was another Padres trade, which I like for the Mariners. Here is the deal:
Padres acquire C Austin Nola, RHP Austin Adams and RHP Dan Altavilla in exchange for OF Taylor Trammell, C Luis Torrens, RHP Andres Muñoz and INF Ty France
Now, Austin Nola is a very valuable piece. His bat appears legit, he is a solid defender, and he is under team control through 2026 (despite being nearly 31 years old). However, the value of that team control is questionable given his age and lack of much track record.
For Nola, the Mariners snagged Taylor Trammell (broken swing but tooled up prospect with big potential), Andres Munoz (broken arm but electric when healthy), Ty France (good hitter with uncertain defensive home), and Luis Torrens (decent enough replacement for Nola with team control). I think it is a home run for the Mariners. All three hitter may be starters next year, and Munoz may close at some point next year. Love it! (Jesse Roche) |
2020-03-27 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Is Andres Munoz worth a late keeper slot after this surprise TJ? Does this derail his saves ascension by much? (Chet from Across the Pond) | It depends on how deep your league is, but I think you can cross Munoz off most draft boards. I already dropped him in two leagues. I am still holding him in Prospects 365's Expert League (1200 players rostered). I do not think it derails his saves ascension too much. Yates has the job for 2020 (absent a trade, which is possible) and Pagan is around as well. Munoz likely was not going to see meaningful save opportunities until 2021 anyway. At this point, he likely is out until midseason 2021, though maybe a touch earlier as relievers need a little less time to fully recover from TJS. (Jesse Roche) |
2020-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat) | General question, for dynasty leagues who has the greater value, bottom of the barrel closers (think M. Givens) or high end set up guys who probably won’t get many save opportunities (Think D. Betances or R. Pressley)? (staycock78 from MEMPHIS, TN) | In standard formats, bottom of the barrel closers with a tenative hold on a job still have ever-so-slightly more value than high-end set-up guys stuck behind top-tier closers, absent the top young arms like James Karinchak and Andres Munoz. Of course, this is not a hard and fast rule, and it will vary player-by-player. For example, I prefer Gallegos/Knebel to Givens, but I prefer Givens to Betances/Pressly. (Jesse Roche) |
2020-01-27 13:00:00 (link to chat) | No love for Andres Munoz - a guy that chucks it 100 MPH and could be a top closer as early as this year? (marco from Italy) | He wasn't list-eligible, over on days of service. We do like our velocity boys though. (Top 101 Prospects Chat) |
2019-05-31 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I'm looking to contend on 2020. What potential closers should I grab now in advance? I don't see many options. (Alex from The Valley) | Actually, Jasseel De La Cruz isn't a bad shout here. Andres Munoz (SDP) has been lighting up radar guns and racking up huge strikeout numbers. Nick Sandlin (CLE) and Ryley Gilliam (NYM) are also interesting as straight relief-types. (J.P. Breen) |
