2016-06-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)Who are the most intriguing players still available heading into day two?
(Friday Night Starter from Backfields)
I had my Brett Cumberland answer all queued up until the Braves swooped in just now. Some guys from my list: Andrew Calica can play, solid all-around game, heard Ben Baird outplayed Delvin Perez at a scouting showcase pre-draft and is a solid up-the-middle HS bat, Brian Serven, backstop from ASU is a field general with stellar defensive chops...somewhat surprised Colby Woodmansee's still kicking around, same with Bryson Brigman from San Diego. I liked Zac Gallen as a solid arm, Jeremy Martinez from USC can hit...-WK (Live Draft Chat)
2016-06-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)When I see Delvin Perez I can't help but think of Oscar Mercado, another glove first SS of a few years back. Why does the industry, or yourself, believe he can figure out how to hit enough? Has it to do with being 3 inches taller than Mercado or just a better swing? *Disclaimer I am not a scout and you have 0 reason to accept this a valid comp
(Lotion from In a basket)
That's an interesting comp, even if I don't agree with it. The thing I see in Perez -- and some see it and some don't -- is a chance for big raw power. There's so much bat speed, and he's going to fill out. There's concerns about the hit tool, as there should be, but man, the upside, the upside is palpable. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-06-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)How far do you see Delvin Perez's stock falling tonight? Outside of the top 20? Outside of Round 1?
(Dr Yanus from Millville)
I think he goes in round one. I've heard as high as 8 and as low as 20. The Dodgers seem like the most likely landing spot right now. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-05-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Recently, Delvin Perez seems to be connected to Reds at #2. Thoughts on if you've heard similar things or anyone else connected to them ? If maturity issues check out ok for Reds, I love the upside pick with no clear cut, top 2-3 elite prospects in this draft.
(Bob from Cincy)
Certainly a player they're considering, along with Corey Ray and Groome. He'd be a fine pick, he's as talented as any player in the draft. High risk, high reward. (Christopher Crawford)
2016-05-31 19:00:00 (link to chat)If you had to guess (or with help of sources), who do you think 3 most likely selections are by the Padres at 8?
(sdsuphilip from San Diego)
I cut my teeth in the amateur ranks so lets tackle some draft questions... Preller wants to make his mark on the farm system and they seem to be linked to every toolsy high schooler in the draft and if Delvin Perez is here at #8 I think its a slam dunk. (James Fisher)
2016-05-31 19:00:00 (link to chat)As a Reds fan with #2 pick, who do you like more, Kyle Lewis, Nick Senzel, or Delvin Perez ?
(Joe from Ohio)
I'm the low guy on Nick Senzel and I may end up eating my hat with that but at #2 give me Kyle Lewis. The power is real and his performance on the Cape last year should clear up any questions on whether he can handle more advanced competition. (James Fisher)
2016-05-31 19:00:00 (link to chat)Who are your top 5 prospects in this draft ? Thanks
(Bob from Cincy)
In no particular order; AJ Puk, Blake Rutherford, Corey Ray, Delvin Perez and Jason Groome. (James Fisher)
2016-03-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)I thought I read somewhere that some teams have worries about Delvin Perez's work ethic. Is this true? Have you heard similar rumors?
(Sam from Clifton)
Hearsay about a teenaged boy's personality flaws is always a subject I'm loath to Delvin to.
(soaks up applause, bows)
But seriously, there's a thin line among teenagers from Competitive to Arrogant to Total Prick to Legitimate Bad Person, and as much effort as scouts put into a kid like Perez, they don't always have all the information, and judgments about others' personalities are entirely subjective. What one organization might view as Total Prick another might view as competitive fire, while the same organization might write off as passive a player who just feels a little uncomfortable or is softspoken. So short of any real evidence that a teenager is a Legitimately Bad Guy, I try not to worry about stuff like that. (Michael Baumann)
2016-03-28 13:00:00 (link to chat) Is Buddy Reed going to "hit" at the next level or his just going to be a great athlete? Would you prefer Stenzel, Ray or the HS Rutherford, Moniak, SS from PR?
(Frank from San Diego)
I do think Buddy is going to hit, actually, though I think he'll always be better from one side of the plate than the other. I see him as a loose Dexter Fowler comp in the best-case. And, like Fowler, I think there's offense he will grow into as he goes into his mid-and-later 20s.

If I want safety, I'll go Senzel. If I want upside, I'll go Ray or Delvin Perez, the Puerto Rican SS. Which one I want has to do with my current farm system and how much pool I'm playing with. (Adam McInturff)
2016-01-29 11:00:00 (link to chat)Just for fun, about where would guys like Jason Groome, Blake Rutherford, Alec Hanson, Corey Ray, Buddy Reed and Delvin Perez rank within this list?
(Ben from NY)
I turned to Chris Crawford for this, as I've not focused on 2016 guys in depth at this point. He said it's safe to say Groome, Perez, Hanson and Ray all would be in the 101 somewhere. (Top 101 Chat with Craig Goldstein)
2016-01-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Some think Delvin Perez is a better talent than even Rutherford in the upcoming draft. What are you thoughts? Stick with Rutherford who most scouts have tracked for a couple of years or Perez who came out of nowhere it seems?
(Gary from Ellicott City)
Based on what I've heard recently/video (YEP, VIDEO), Perez by a significant margin. That's not to say I don't like Rutherford, he's the second best prep hitting prospect in this draft, and he MIGHT establish himself ahead of Perez with a big year. But Perez has that "you know, this guy could go 1.1" feel. Never have gotten that feeling with Rutherford. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-08-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Outside of Pint, who are some players I should watch for at the UA game in Chicago this weekend?
(Cosmo from Chicago)
First of all, whomever decided to make the UA game and the PG event the same weekend is evil. Evil I tell you.

But Pint is definitely the best name to watch there, also watch for Delvin Perez, a few people have used the word "stud" in describing him. Seth Beer, Jesus Luzardo, Bo Bichette. THere's a lot of talent there. Also say hi to Mauricio Rubio. He'll be there. (Christopher Crawford)
