2015-07-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)They aren't *too* far apart in the rankings, but what puts Jose Berrios over Luis Severino? They seem to have pretty similar profiles.
(j from OR)
I don't have any questions about Berrios being able to remain a starter while there are some who still question whether or not Severino will be able to stick in a rotation. He's proving those doubters more and more wrong with each start closer to the big leagues, but I don't have any concerns about Berrios sticking. (Jeff Moore)
2015-06-02 18:00:00 (link to chat)Which young arm has biggest upside? Luis Ortiz, Reynaldo Lopez, Blake Snell, Luis Severino, or Yadier Alvarez?
(seddrah from seattle)
I'll go with Tuck's boy Reynaldo here. (Mauricio Rubio)
2015-02-04 19:00:00 (link to chat)Other than maybe some different names at the back end, would there be any significant ranking differences between the BP 101 and your personal 101?
(Shawnykid23 from CT)
I can't really speak to that since the BP 101 isn't officially released yet. But, in general, some guys I'm higher on than other lists are: Tyler Glasnow, Reese McGuire, Aaron Judge, Manuel Margot, Brandon Drury, Nomar Mazara, ad Jorge Mateo. Guys I'm a bit lower on: Aaron Sanchez, Nick Williams, Josh Bell, Matt Olson, Hunter Harvey, Tyrone Taylor, Luis Severino, Brandon Nimmo. Hope that helps. (Jordan Gorosh)
2015-02-04 19:00:00 (link to chat)Better pitching prospect this time next year: Luis Severino or Ian Clarkin?
(jnyy from Oregon)
Severino has much better stuff, although it's certainly not a guarantee he sticks in the rotation. Three starter-quality pitches, but the body and mechanical profile is difficult to believe in. Stiff front leg, inconsistent release point. Still, Clarkin is more of a back-end guy, and you can at least dream on Severino. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-09-10 12:00:00 (link to chat)How good can Luis Severino be? I know some BP people think he's a reliever.
(Tom from New Jersey)
I think the Severino to the pen talk is very real. The mechanics are inconsistent, and he does have some durability concerns. I think the profile generally leans more towards bullpen than starter, but he is also only 20 and does have some time for growth. Projecting a player is tough, but I think more often than not, Severino types end in the bullpen. Of course, there are always exceptions to every rule. (Tucker Blair)
2014-09-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Any thoughts on Luis Severino?
(Joe from New York)
8th inning reliever. Big time FB, but don't think he works out as a SP. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-08-19 14:00:00 (link to chat)What were your impressions of Luis Severino when you say him?
(Carlin from Los Angeles)
I didn't see frontline starter. I didn't like the overall delivery and it was a whippy arm action. the stuff was legit but I don't think he has the consistent delivery, command or body to withstand a 200 IP season. 8th inning reliever. (CJ Wittmann)
2014-07-07 11:00:00 (link to chat)As a Yankees fan,the Eric Jagielo/Aaron Judge/Ian Clarkin group is terribly exciting to me. With Luis Severino making the list and Rob Refsnyder destroying Triple-A and the oodle of international signings, how do you view the New York farm going forward?
(Nick from New Jersey)
I'm not high on the Yankees farm system and I think a large majority of their prospects get overhyped by national media sources. The reports on Severino are legit, but most still suggest a reliever future--even though it could be a very legit late-innings profile. The new LA crop will be very interesting. I love high ceiling talent but it comes at a very high risk and the Yankees have struggled with development in recent years. (Jason Parks on the Top 50)
2014-07-09 15:00:00 (link to chat)Did you see any of Luis Severino's starts while he was with Charleston? If so, what notes did you take?
(Ace from PA)
He's a poor man's Alexi Ogando. The velo is good but he catches lots of the plate and I was never wowed. Should contribute at big league level. (Ryan Parker)
2014-05-13 11:00:00 (link to chat)Are you buying into Luis Severino? You had suggested preseason you projected him as a reliever.
(Michael Kay from Yankee Stadium)
Fantastic arm. I would bet on him being a reliever. (Jason Parks)
2013-07-29 11:00:00 (link to chat)What have you heard about Yankees DSL import Luis Severino? I know GCL numbers don't matter much, but man are they something filthy.
(Julian from Carmel)
I only hear the Yankees' brass talk very positively about him when I make the trip up to Trenton. (Zach Mortimer)
