2017-06-27 20:00:00 (link to chat) | Has Tomas Nido's prospect status been affected one way or the other after posting a solid if unspectacular year at Double-A? (delatopia from the 415) | It's about even. He'd probably be higher on a system ranking because it's been a bad year for the system overall. (Jarrett Seidler) |
2017-05-04 13:00:00 (link to chat) | "Catchers are weird" and both Anthony Dimino and Patrick Mazeika are absolutely tearing it up - are either of them particularly interesting? Could either of them be in the "Tomas Nido breakout mold"? (Steven from Queens) | Nido was younger in the FSL and a much better backstop than either. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2017-02-14 12:00:00 (link to chat) | What needs to happen for Tomas Nido to be on this list next year? Not impossible, right? (Kenneth from Qarth) | Do it again in Double-A. (The Top 101 Prospect Chat with Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2017-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hypothetically, say someone was able to say to you right now, with certainty, that Tomas Nido will be an above average defensive catcher, but was unable to provide any certainty about his offense. Would that make him a top 100 prospect, being that offensive potential is certainly there? (Scott from Florida) | Probably? Catchers are weird man. Maybe not, because we don't value that as much as we should, because I think we are bad at discerning it. So if you told me he was definitely a +10 defender or whatever, how much does he actually need to hit to be a regular? (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2016-11-22 20:00:00 (link to chat) | If Tomas Nido were draft eligible, where do you suspect he would be taken? (Lefty from NJ) | So basically in the fantasy world he doesn't do much for two years in college except develop a good defensive reputation, then is a pop-up hit machine type guy in 2016. Probably late or supplemental 1st? We ranked him 12th in the Mets system, basically dead in between their first and second round picks, and right around where I suspect a healthy Kay would've been. (Jarrett Seidler) |
2016-11-11 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I feel like, as a Mets fan, not enough has been said about Tomas Nido over the last 6 or so months. Can this guy be an MLB caliber catcher? If so, that's quite a valuable piece (Harrison from Brooklyn) | Nido was definitely in consideration for a spot on the top ten, but catchers are so weird, and he popped up as a very different prospect than what you would have expected (was a power bat/catch and throw guy). Also, no one sees St. Lucie. But yeah, OFP 50 seems fair to me at present. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2016-10-06 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Hey Jeffrey, congrats on the promotion. Nothing better than some prospect talk to cure our Mets hangover, huh. So.......what can you tell me about Tomas Nido? (Greg from Queens) | Thanks.
Man, I will eventually write my "we aren't great at scouting catchers bit" this offseason. There's stuff you can't really scout for starters, but their development paths are so weird generally. I saw Nido a fair bit in Brooklyn and Savannah and he was just sort of there, but I can't be shocked he finally put it together at the plate. Another part of the problem is teams tend to rotate catchers a lot more in the minors so you see fewer reps in the field and at the plate over a long weekend look. There were series I sat on Nido and h started one out of three days. He'll have to do it again, and the Mets will have to make a 40-man decision on him, but our Florida guys liked him as a two-way catcher that could start. If you can catch and throw, you can hang around forever and maybe figure it out. Sometimes you don't even have to be able to throw. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2016-09-07 19:00:00 (link to chat) | You buying into the idea that Nido can be an everyday C? (Robert from St lucie) | Tomas Nido time! Yeah, he's got a shot. That's going to be an interesting 40-man decision for the Mets this offseason. (Jarrett Seidler) |
2016-09-07 19:00:00 (link to chat) | Tomas Nido had a breakout campaign in St Lucie? Should we be buying in? Is he legit? (Rich from NJ) | I think so, though I'll stipulate that I don't see the FSL. He's always projected as a very good defender, which means the hitting bar isn't that high. Thomas Desmidt had a pretty strong report on him this year. (Jarrett Seidler) |
2016-09-21 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Thomas Szapucki or Dylan Cease?
Joe Musgrove or Robert Gsellman?
Tomas Nido or Reese McGuire? (Felipe from Alpine) | Cease; Gsellman; McGuire. (Brendan Gawlowski) |
No BP Roundtables have mentioned this guy.
