2018		Max Muncy munched on Triple-A pitching, but that's about where his bat maxes out.
2017		Max Muncy was a first baseman/third baseman in the minors, logging zero innings at second base, but he was thrust into action there by the A's during his debut and will need the versatility to stick in the majors.
2016		Muncy hasn't shown much pop since knocking 21 bombs in the California League in 2013, but the stocky left-handed hitter has an advanced approach at the plate, even if it didn't yield results in his MLB debut. He works counts and is strong enough to drive balls into the gaps. Primarily a first baseman in the minors, Muncy also played some third as a rookie and wasn't terrible. He worked out at second base with Ron Washington toward season's end and was scheduled to see game action there in the Mexican Pacific Winter League to increase his versatility and value. Those plans were interrupted by a rib injury that forced him out after seven games.
2015		The numbers suggest that Muncy left a sock behind in Stockton, which is a problem for a player whose power is supposed to be his carrying tool, but he was raking before a broken middle finger sidelined him for a few weeks and dulled his hitting tools upon return. His patience remained intact, as he led the Texas League in walks by a healthy margin and finished third in on-base percentage. The A's gave him 22 games at third base, but Muncy's body suggests that he will succumb to the funnel of the defensive spectrum and settle at the cold corner long term, putting the pressure on his bat to rebound in 2015.
2014		The power projection for Max Muncy has skyrocketed since he was selected in the fifth round in 2012 thanks to a revamped approach that focuses on pulling pitches on the inner half of the plate.

(pats1124 from Durham, NC)	He's been on a hell of a tear, although the Dodgers offense could probably use his swings a bit more at the moment. Using our new leaderboards (https://www.baseballprospectus.com/leaderboards/hitting/) you can sort by BB% and min PA. I just did this with a min of 20 PA and was stunned to find Matt Joyce a 23.8% and Joey Gallo at 23.5%. Muncy tops the leaderboard and has a good chance of finishing there, but he's just on a bit of a hot streak right now, I think. (Craig Goldstein)

He's obviously on the hot streak of his life and that won't continue, but you could say that about most players hitting at his current level. I think his defense will end up being the binding constraint on him. The Dodgers don't love playing him at third and like him at second even less. He's probably best at 1B defensively, which puts more pressure on his bat. (Scooter Hotz)

(Bryson from MD)	That's a good comp in a lot of ways, though I'd expect his career arc to be even more narrow. In fact, if I had him under control for several more seasons, I'd look to deal him soon. I appreciate that Muncy went home and got back to basics, and think he's a useful player/depth type piece. Taylor was a star last year though, and I don't think Muncy has that type of ceiling.
