Pitch Type Future Grade Sitting Velocity Peak Velocity Report
4 SMFB 70 94-97 98 Electric fastball, heavy with late life, makes hitters look uncomfortable, plays well at the top of the zone, generates a lot of swing and miss; currently more control over command.
Slider 60 87-88 90 11-5 shape, plays well off the fastball, true swing-and-miss secondary, gets righties to chase out of the zone and will throw backfoot to left handed hitters.
Changeup 40 83-86 88 Good velocity separation but firm and lacks movement, used sparingly.
Curveball 50 85-87 87 12-6 shape and sharp break when he gets it right, inconsistent, will hang in the zone; will play average with more reps.
Overall

Concerns about his delivery and future arm health caused Espino to drop down draft boards in 2019 despite having arguably the most electric stuff of any of the prep arms. Cleveland nabbed him 24th overall and have since helped him shorten up the arm action while not losing any of the effectiveness. The double-plus fastball and swing-and-miss slider give a high floor of a closer, but it's not hard to envision him as a top of the rotation arm if another secondary can develop.
