Zach Haake

Born: 10/08/1996 (Age: 22)
Bats: Right Throws: Right
Height: 6' 4" Weight: 186
Mechanics
Tall and lanky with room to develop; long legs and arms. Poor posture--hunched forward throughout windup and delivery; wrist wrap. Inconsistent mechanics; arm slot will range between high 3/4 to 3/4 and drops more often when throwing slider. Mechanics get loose as he tires. Very quick arm; finishes delivery well. Works quickly; smooth delivery with a touch of violence at the end.

Pitch Type Future Grade Sitting Velocity Peak Velocity Report
Fastball 70 94-96 97 Explosive arm-side life with moderate sink; locates the pitch well early to both sides of plate. Elevates for K's at top end velo when needed; love the arm speed. Pitch takes a step back late in starts and from stretch. Will break a lot of RHH bats; solid command and control of pitch.
Slider 60 84-87   Tease; least consistent pitch in the arsenal, but nearly unhittable when right. Tight pitch that can be explosive but can also be lazy and loopy. Darting explosive break when finished well. Shape will vary even when thrown well; will get hitters whiffing in dirt when sharp.
Changeup 55 84-87   Will throw to hitters on either side of plate; also inconsistent, but more reliable than SL. Arm-side fade and depth when right; will make hitters look silly intermittently. Will telegraph and slow delivery periodically; commands pitch well and does a good job keeping it down.
Overall

Haake is raw. At present the fastball is the only reliable pitch in the arsenal, but the off-speed stuff flashes near elite at times. The future consistency of off-speed pitches will determine his ultimate role. He could end up as a solid mid-rotation piece, but could also end up in the bullpen if things don't progress well. His simple delivery should make it relatively easy to clean up his mechanical inconsistencies. He has near elite arm speed that will make for a dependable fastball regardless of his future home.
