Good athlete with excellent bend and quality body control. Average build with a longer torso and long levers.
Throws from stretch. Mid leg kick into a low power position with extreme tension in the core with flexible limbs and torso. Hips fire towards home plate and Barlow comes downhill with an extreme over the top arm slot. Long arm action. |

Extreme over the top delivery creates tough sight lines with pitch. Plus "rising" life. Below average fastball command that will come and go from appearance to appearance. |

Joe Barlow uses his quality athleticism and flexibility to create plus arm speed for a 95-97 MPH T98 4-seam fastball and spin a 79-81 MPH curveball that flashes plus with plus 12-6 break and plus depth.
Barlow comes with heavy risk as a reliever with a fairly short track record of fringy command, as in the past it has been a significant problem to the profile.
The two pitch combo should allow him to perform the duties of a low-setup role in an MLB bullpen assuming he is able to improve his command consistency from game to game. Without improvement he may be better suited to a middle reliever spot.
