Matt Manning

Born: 01/28/1998 (Age: 21)
Bats: Right Throws: Right
Height: 6' 6" Weight: 195
Mechanics
Easier tempo than in the past, full arc to HTQ, average arm speed, still a slight lower half hitch, but smoother and more upright, much improved extension and mechanics. Looks like he's playing catch when he's going well.

Pitch Type Future Grade Sitting Velocity Peak Velocity Report
FB 60 92-94 96 Serious extension and angle, above average command to both sides, will cut or run. Batters were uncomfortable, got on them in a hurry. Flattened a bit and lost some command as he tired but he didn't really bleed velo. Could get to 7, but I don't really see the consistent plus velocity to go with the command and extension
CU 60 77-80 80 Command was loose early, humpy, tightened up as the game went on and showed a 12-6 chase and 12-5 backfoot. Again, best were 7s, but it's not quite tight enough a power curve to get me there at present.
CH 50 85-88 88 Below-average command, turned over a couple nice ones down, but firm and inconsistent for the most part. It's the change of the mid-rotation guy that needs a grade jump to start. Probably gets there?
Overall

Much improved mechanics have led to a command jump with both the fastball and curve for Manning. He grew into the start, flashing better secondaries second and third time through the order. Fairly safe number three starter type, will need some secondary improvements to get past that projection. Injury and durability risks are low, although he's still a pitcher. Some reliever risk if the change-up doesn't continue to develop, but I'm not hugely concerned at present. He has a short track record of keeping the delivery together so there may be some hidden risk there. He's a Midseason 50 candidate barring injury or steep regression.
