Tool Future Grade Report
Hit 45 Hits from an upright, slightly open stance w/ quiet hands & a leg kick load. Advance approach for a 19-year old, showing feel for the strike zone & taking aggressive swings in positive counts, though he is still getting accustomed to good spin/offspeed & can get beat on quality secondaries in-zone. Might wind up as more of a .240-.250 bat, but should come w/ strong OBP's
Power 60 Generates easy plus raw power. Gets to it in-game due to his approach & the simplicity of his swing. 30+ HR bat
Baserunning/Speed 30 Well below-avg athleticism. Base-clogging type
Glove 45 Work in progress behind the dish. Fringy to below-avg mobility w/ stiff hands. Automated strike zone could help him become an avg defender, otherwise he's a below-avg defender at risk of moving to 1B
Arm 60 Asset w/ plus strength/accuracy
Overall

Defensive variance along w/ the general physical toll of catching create a good amount of risk, but there aren't many catchers capable of putting up 30 HR's annually & the bat would play at 1B should he slide down the defensive spectrum. Cartaya ultimately projects as an above-avg regular w/ a middle-of-the-order offensive profile
