Tool Future Grade Report
Hit 40 Seriously struggles with pitch recognition, susceptible to good velocity, good breaking stuff, and basic sequencing. Highly aggressive approach with significant swing and miss tendencies. Short, simple swing with some stride, pulls his front shoulder and hips out early, causing his bat path to drag. Mostly pullside only.
Power 60 60 raw power, but 50 in-game power. When he makes contact, it's usually an absolute laser. Uphill swing path made for producing longballs. Tempting to put 70 raw power, but needs to display it more.
Baserunning/Speed 55 Athletic and speedy for his size and physique, but probably not enough to play center. Takes decent first steps. There's enough in the department to steal a dozen bags a year.
Glove 50 Takes decent routes with average range. Approaches the ball passively, not looking to make superstar play, would rather control the bases.
Arm 40 Below average, left field is probably his only defensive home, gets the ball in quickly and accurately, but the pure arm strength leaves something to be desired.
Overall

Heredia doesn't pass the eye test at first glance, but the at least plus raw power and surprising speed make him more than notable. The swing mechanics and approach are severely holding him back from unlocking his raw power. The struggle to identify breaking pitches and swing and miss tendencies indicate that Heredia has a long way to go in his development. The power/some speed combination that Heredia could potentially have gives him an exciting ceiling, but his skills at the plate indicate the risk is extreme. At just 20 years old, it will be exciting to see how the historically successful Dodgers player development system will help Heredia unlock his potential.
