Tool Future Grade Report
Hit 50 Above-average bat speed, with quick hands through the zone. Stays upright in swing and doesn't get on plane well for pitches low in the zone. Line drive and groundball-heavy bat plane, except on high pitches which he can elevate. Aggressive approach limits how much hard contact he makes, despite quality physical tools.
Power 30 Above-average raw power, but plays down heavily in games because swing plane only allows him to tap into it on pitches up in zone. Doesn't adjust to get on plane mid-to-low in zone. Groundball-heavy approach limits doubles power as well.
Baserunning/Speed 30 Well below-average speed, but elite instincts on the basepaths. Won't steal but reads ball off bat well and understands when he can take an extra base or move up. Foot speed limits lateral range at middle-infield positions.
Glove 50 Quick first step, solid instincts at 3B/1B, good hands and footwork. Limited lateral range and on balls that he has to come in for. Below average defense at 2B, where lack of lateral range is a bigger problem.
Arm 55 Above-average arm strength.
Overall

Profar has the hands, quickness, and spin recognition for an above average hit tool, but is limited by an over-aggressive approach at the plate. His defensive profile plays average at 3B/1B and he can occasionally fill in at 2B in a pinch.

Profar warrants a report because of the tools and above-average raw power that are currently wasted on an upright and flat swing. If he can make swing changes and better tap into some of that strength, he could profile as an offensive-minded utility player with the ability to play three positions, or even fit well in a platoon role. Without a major adjustment, Profar's most likely role is as a Triple-A/depth piece.
