Jose Altuve has been out of the lineup for several days because of a strained hamstring. The Astros hope to have him back soon, but there is a good chance he ends up on the DL. He won’t be back until Sunday at the earliest. … Lately, Franklin Gutierrez can’t avoid an injury if his life depended on it. Last night, he was hit on the side of the face with a pick-off throw and stayed down for some time. He’s going to have further tests, but hopefully there are no fractures or a concussion. … Trevor Bauer’s groin cramps may not sound severe since he’s been able to pitch through them, but it’s something to keep an eye on. They have bothered him throughout the year, which always raises an eyebrow.

Nick Johnson is nothing if not consistent when he finds himself in these pages. He’s been on the disabled list at the major- or minor-league level every year but two since 1997. His most recent foray into the injury database is for a strained right wrist. This is the same wrist he has had surgery on before. He could be out for a while. Johnson will have an MRI today to determine the extent of the damage and if surgery is indicated. Xavier Avery was brought up from Norfolk to take Johnson’s roster spot.
