Jim Walsh led the group that this week bought Baseball Prospectus. He's a diehard Red Sox fan, so now's the time to get on him about BP's sudden Northeast bias. Ask him anything about the site, himself, or baseball.
Jim Walsh: Hello BP readers
tripleb (Boston): Given your intro blog, I have to ask: Pedro 1999 or Pedro 2000?
Does this work?
Jim Walsh: Hello?
Jack (Mass): Are the same Jim Walsh who worked for Maple St Press and used some SoSH writers for the Boston edition?
Jim Walsh: Yes, I am that same Jim Walsh
Hank Steinbrenner (George M. Steinbrenner Field): BP already has enough of a Red Sox bias. (I'm looking at you, Carsley.) Hire some Yankees fans! Refsnyder is going to be a star!!!
Jim Walsh: We are big tent here!
Ricky (Cali): 2-3 years - what position is Yoan Moncada playing and how good will he be?
Jim Walsh: Center and a superstar. Cuba pushed him and gave him the first US baseball visa for a reason.
William (New York): Who is your favorite BP staff person ever? Don't cheat and name eight people here. Be bold: Pick one.
Jim Walsh: That's an impossible question. I get what you are saying, but pretty much everyone is my favorite. I am honored to carry the torch forward.
Paco Picopiedra (Boston): What's your BP commenter number?
Jim Walsh: 45
Tomas (Brooklyn): Everybody hates it whenever a website gets redsigned but i think it's been long enough that BP readers would understand.
Jim Walsh: Yeah, we might do something about that. We are just incredibly excited to create the best baseball information on the planet.
Adesy McSkinny (South Bend, IN): Congratualtions on the new acquistion. I'm sure you guys will do a great job. Do you have any thoughts on the prospects that Theo and company have brought into the Cubs and what they might look like this summer?
Jim Walsh: Thank you kind sir. I already own a South Bend Cubs t-shirt (does that help?)
justen (NY, NY): Does the new ownership group come in with a vision for how web content will evolve / continue? Or will it be a evaluate-first scenario? Or will is just be status quo?
Jim Walsh: We have a lot of ideas and thoughts, and a lot of experience. This is going to go in a direction that you will like.
tripleb (Boston): Repost, since you posted at the start of the chat but didn't answer... Given your intro blog, I have to ask: Pedro 1999 or Pedro 2000? Thanks!
Jim Walsh: Well, I guess I will take this one
jonraypyle (Tx): This is by far the most important question you will answer today. Where do you stand on the hot dog/sandwitch situation?
Jim Walsh: Definitely sandwich
Madeline Mansur-Arends (Nassau, Bahamas): Success !
Jim Walsh: Thanks!
The Other Bob Hamelin (La Muneca): Who starts game one for the Red Sox in the ALDS this year, and who gets traded to make that happen?
Jim Walsh: I love this question. I would say David Price.
The Other Bob Hamelin (La Muneca): Who starts game one for the Red Sox in the ALDS this year, and who gets traded to make that happen?
Jim Walsh: I would say David Price.
Drifter (Long Branch): How will the Red Sox outfield situation sort itself out by Opening Day? Is Betts a sure thing to go down? Or does Castillo's oblique issue open the door for him?
Jim Walsh: I think it's a nice situation for Ben C. I am a Castillo believer, however.
Pelecos (Granville): Hey Jim, nice seeing a fellow reader here on the site. What are your main goals for the company going forward? Also, if I'm a college student is there anyway for me to get involved in the website this summer or in the near future?
Keep up the great work
Jim Walsh: There will be some new and exciting changes on the BP landscape--yes, an app! Our goal is to extend the delivery platform while providing the best baseball information on the planet.
Adesy McSkinny (South Bend, IN): Congrats on the acquisition Jim. Any thoughts on the Cubs young players this spring?
Jim Walsh: Thanks, Adesy. As for the Cubs, Theo is putting in place the same thing he did in Boston. He's the best there is.
Justin (Chicago): I realize this post happened before you took over, but there was an announcement where BP subscribers were going to get a discount on MLB.TV. The post is now gone. Is this no longer a thing?
Jim Walsh: Justin, we will take care of that this week.
Randy W (San Fernando Valley): Do you have plans to make BP a better experience on mobile phones?
Jim Walsh: Yes, this is a frustration we all share.
Ben (Chicago): Lots of Cubs questions today. When do they finally win it all?
Jim Walsh: I like them for this year. Theo is doing what he did in Boston. They will knock on the door every year, and it will open one season.
P-Ning (Chicago): What about the Rangers this year? Is there light at the end of the tunnel or with the Darvish injury is it time they breathe deep the gathering gloom?
Jim Walsh: Yes, I would go the Moody Blue route if I were a Rangers fan
Deuce Collins (Chicago, IL): Who do you expect to make an impact out of the White Sox farm system in the near future?
Jim Walsh: Erik Johnson seems like a stud. I hope his offspeed stuff develops.
Mike (DC): What prospects/rookies (non-Red Sox) are you keeping your eye on the most this year?
Jim Walsh: I think Addison Russell will be the best player in baseball soon.
smartishpace (Baltimore): Please tell me that you will fix PECOTA so that it correctly has Milwaukee winning the NLC.
Jim Walsh: Our plan is to make the Brewers win the 1982 World Series.
Cliff (San Diego): Was pretty surprised with all the moves the Padres made this offseason. Do they compete in the division?
Jim Walsh: Same here. I think they have a real team. They will compete.
Chris (Miami): So, who gets traded so that David Price starts ALDS Game 1 for the Red Sox?
Jim Walsh: Red Sox farm system is stocked. I would move Swihart (I am a Vazquez believer).
Doug (Richmond): Who will win NL MVP this year? Who will actually deserve to win?
Jim Walsh: That's an impossible question, obviously, but Stanton is the current best player, so I would go with him.
Doug (Richmond): Who will win NL MVP this year? Who will actually deserve to win?
Jim Walsh: That's an impossible question, obviously, but Stanton is the current best player, so I would go with him.
Top Shelf For Nuthin (New Orleans ): Jim, excited about the upcoming changes! Who do you think will be the best pitching duo this year? Will they hold a candle to the magic that was Mark Prior and Kerry Wood in 2003?
Jim Walsh: I think this question was intended for Dusty Baker.
The Dude (Office): Congrats on the Acquisition! Your 1st order of business should be to bring back Up & In! Pay KG and JP whatever they want! Will there be a new prospect-centric podcast?
Jim Walsh: Ellis Burks. Maybe Phil Plantier. Plantier's 1991 strat card is amazing.
Grable (Austin, TX): How do you think Workman will do for the Sox this season? Will he be on the opening day roster?
Jim Walsh: Seems like he's on the ragged edge. I have always liked Workman. That 12-6 isn't produced often these days.
thresh50 (Boston): When do you think Moncada reaches the majors?
Jim Walsh: 2016 call-up, 2017 starter
Nick (Michigan): With the state of the Tigers' farm system and their aging roster, are they doomed to the same fate as the 2015 Phillies in the near future?
Jim Walsh: When you go all in, you can get burned. That's why Theo is the best at what he does. Create a long window of winning opportunity.
The Bag (New Jersey): Will the Royals contend again this year or was last october their moment for another 25 years?
Jim Walsh: I do think that was their chance. I think 80 wins would be good for them.
Jeff (UK): Favorite Pedro experience ever?
Jim Walsh: Probably this game

Steve Trachsel beating Pedro when he was at the height of his powers.
Mike (Minneapolis): Thanks for the chat, Jim! Who's a major league comp for Miguel Sano??
Jim Walsh: I'm not sure there is one. You would have to go historical for a comp (if he pans out).
Billy (Beantown): Are you a Xander Bogaerts believer?
Jim Walsh: I think Xander can be Manny Ramirez/Miguel Cabrera while playing shortstop. So, yes.
Shawn (Office): Do you love Rafael Devers as much as I do? (you don't)
Jim Walsh: I don't think I do, but I do really like him.
Amazin_Mess (NY): How low is your BP account user number? You can't possibly have one that is less than three digits.
Jim Walsh: The first thing we want to do is start putting user numbers on eBay. Stay tuned.
fabiopao (Italy): any timeline on the 20% discount for mlb.tv? Spring trainings are about to get real and I'd like to jump in. thanks
Jim Walsh: This week.
