2009-02-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Chris Carpenter will make ____ starts for the cardinals in 2009.
(Jack Bauer from Washington)

2008-07-29 16:00:00 (link to chat)are you taking injury questions? if so, here's one!! What is the 2009 outlook for a 35 year old Chris Carpenter? odds he gets back to 90% of his peak form?
(makewayhomer from Boston)
80%? He made a HUGE leap in command from his first rehab start to second and command is the biggest issue post-TJ.

BTW, I heard the term "Tommy John graduate" today. Stupidest term I've heard in weeks. (Will Carroll)
2008-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Will - what exactly did happen with Prior? Some of us are having an argument and can't remember/find enough of the details. I seem to remember that he had some undiagnosed structural damage, while others seem to think that it was just 'normal wear and tear that everyone pitches through', thus solidifying the argument that Prior was a wuss. What was the real story?
(Jeff Haack from Madison)
He had cuff and labrum tears that were corrected surgically in early 07. They were significant, but not massive. Very comparable, I'm told, to Chris Carpenter in ... 01? 02? (Will Carroll)
2008-03-17 12:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Mike, My DL spot is empty. Any suggestions on guys to scoop up and stick there? (Not sure it matters, but I'm in a 10 teamer vanilla.)
(akachazz from DC)
don't push it but feel free to roll the dice and make the cut when a guy you do want to keep gets hurt. Chris Carpenter? Don't over think it since you are in a ten teamer anyway. (Mike Siano)
2008-03-11 12:00:00 (link to chat)I'm sure you're hearing this from everyone...but what are you seeing with Pujols' value in light of all the surgery talk? I'm in a 10-team 5x5 league that keeps 2 players per team, and I'm sure that Pujols won't be kept in that league. Given that, how far do you let him go before you give it a shot?
(stevedevries from Boston, MA)
Got into a good discussion about this with the Fantasy 411 guys and Will Carroll. I still see Pujols as a late-first, early-second pick. It really comes down to your risk tolerance.

The critical factor is the Cards' performance. They probably can't win anything this year, but you could make a case for 2009. So there's not much reason for Pujols to put that season at risk once we know 2008 is a dead issue.

So Pujols' playing time is as much tied to Chris Carpenter's comeback, and Rick Ankiel's development, and Colby Rasmus' playing time, as his own elbow. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-02-06 14:00:00 (link to chat)G'Day! I, the greatest still-living vocalist of Australian Rock, wants to know what to expect out of Francisco Liriano and Chris Carpenter this year. If only that nice boy from INXS were still alive.
(Angry Anderson from Perth, AU)
Lots of questions about Liriano, so I'll try to address that here...

Carpenter won't be back prior to the All-Star Break. I'd pencil him in for 10-15 starts, with increasing responsibility in each one, and a season that's nothing particularly special.

Liriano? All the health reports I've heard are positive, but still also hear things about his mechanics that worry me. I don't think I'm sufficiently expert to evaluate the risk that his delivery poses. If he's healthy, I expect him to be devastating, perhaps after a few bumpy starts as he gets his sea legs back. (Gary Huckabay)
