2013-08-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are we absolutely sure that Kenny Williams isn't in control of the White Sox? Outside of Avisail, the White Sox got low-level prospects & other team's garbage out of trading Peavy, Rios, Crain and Thorton. For a team that has no depth at any position in their farm & their mythical pitching depth is somewhat questionable...when will this organization get a clue?
(jlarsen from Chicago, IL)
My impression is the same as yours, Kenny is still running the show. Or at least as a hand on the wheel. (Harry Pavlidis)
2013-03-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)The South Siders are a legit dark horse. Kenny Williams should get the same kudos Billy Beane gets. I think they win 90 easy. Opinion?
(Petey7 from Indy)
I like the White Sox more than PECOTA, which projects them to go 79-83, but I don't see a 90-win team here. I think they'll jockey with the Indians for second place in the AL Central, about eight games behind the Tigers. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-12-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)As a native chicagoan, It's almost embarassing what the White Sox have done(or not done) this offseason. Spent waaaay too much on a player coming off a surprising all-around year, but needs a platoon-mate to be successful and has little-to-no-power in his bat. Is this the dreaded "R-word"(rebuilding) that Kenny Williams hinted about but always managed to avoid?
(jlarsen from chicago)
Williams could try to rebuild, but I'm not sure how. Off the top of my head, he's got Dayan Viciedo and Chris Sale as somewhat established players who theoretically haven't reached their prime. I'm not sure those are foundational guys, but they aren't bad. Then again, I don't ever dismiss Williams, who has enjoyed a great deal of success by doing things that baffle me. Someone should write a book and/or movie about him. (Geoff Young)
2012-11-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Dan - Always enjoy the articles and your chats. Assuming that there are some differences in how things will be run between Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams, how much freedom do you expect Rick to receive in putting his stamp on the current roster as well as how trades and the minor leagues are run? I am interested in seeing if Rick will favor a more balanced approach to how the lineup is constructed rather than the all or nothing approach that has been prevelant under Kenny's watch. Thanks again, Brian
(Brian from Tinley Park)
Thanks, Brian. How's Tinley Park today? I think Rick is going to be a very good GM and he has the respect from the people in his organization. You never know how someone will be in that role until they get there, but my guess is that the White Sox will be in very good hands under Rick's tenure. He has Buddy Bell as one of his closest advisors, and that gives him a great chance of succeeding. (Dan Evans)
2012-10-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Will the White Sox finally entering the dreaded period that Kenny Williams has managed to avoid the last few years in "rebuilding"? Any ideas on what kind of a GM that Rick Hahn will be?
(jlarsen from chicago)
At the end of the day, the White Sox were an above-.500 team that was in the playoff hunt in a weak division, and at the very least the division doesn't look to be getting much stronger next year. I think they could very well go out and get one modest bat and some back-end rotation help and be a solid contender again, which isn't really how I would describe a rebuilding team. I mean, you could tear this roster down now if you wanted to, but I don't think you have to and I don't think Williams will. (Colin Wyers)
2012-08-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)What can you tell us about Sox GM Kenny Williams that we might not know?
(JWR from USA!, USA!)
Thanks, JWR. Kenny is one of the most resourceful people that I have ever met, and I have known him for more than 20 years. Something you may not know about him...both of us had fathers who were firemen. (Dan Evans)
2012-03-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Odds that Kenny Williams is still the GM of the White Sox this time next year?
(Justin from St Charles, IL)
Very high. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-03-14 13:30:00 (link to chat)Are you buying what the White Sox are selling?
(mattymatty2000 from Portland, OR)
I'm not sure what the White Sox are selling. For me, the most memorable Kenny Williams quote of the winter was "Hopefully it's enough to remain competitive." I guess that's sort of an attempt at a sale, but how much can they charge? (Ben Lindbergh)
