Have you heard anything about the changes AJ Preller has made on the player development side? Obviously Logan White, Nomo, etc. are great for scouting but the Padres minor league development has been a mess for years. (Larry from San Juan Capistrano) | Can't say a ton about this one either, but yes, I do think some changes have been made--at least some things have been shaken up.
I wouldn't expect those to be finished, either. Preller came from Texas--a PD machine--and I imagine plenty of the principles that have made the Rangers PD system what it is will continue to be implemented in San Diego. (Adam McInturff) |
2014-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Everyone says Corey Seager will HAVE to move to 3B, but we are talking about an organization that has Hanley Ramirez at SS. Do you think it's that inevitable or have you seen any hope he could stick it out there? (Carlos Flores from Hell) | I don't think he needs to move, at least not now. The Dodgers and Logan White have been adamant that he stick at shortstop. His glove is a 6 and he makes all the plays he can reach. The range is fringy but man, he could play shortstop for me any day. He's a better SS than Hanley is at this point. (Chris Rodriguez) |

What is up with the Padres minor league development? Players who look to be studs continue to either get hurt or completely regress. Would signing Logan White as GM make a huge difference? (fahlstrome from San Diego) | I think it's just bad luck at the moment. They still have some talent with Hedges on the way and Renfroe behind him. They've shown the ability to acquire talent and the next step is getting it to the major league level. I liked the way they ran their camp in the spring, so it's just a matter of time. For the Dodgers (homer) sake, I hope they don't snag him. He knows his stuff. (Chris Rodriguez) |
2013-08-12 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you see the Dodgers moving Urias quickly through the minors given his early success and them being in win now mode or do you think the voices predicting him as the next teenager in the majors are premature? (sitdancer from DC) | The Dodgers are a smart organization when it comes to player development, and I trust that Logan White will pace the youngster's progression based on his continued growth. The ascension of pitchers up the minor-league ladder has many different demands than that of a hitter, and his rise will likely be determined by his physical development in addition to his on-field success. 2012-09-28 13:00:00 (link to chat) | the dodgers spent a lot of money on y. puig. What kind of a hitter does it look like he is going to be? Will the dodgers be glad that they got him or regret spending so much? (temple from madison) | Thanks for your question, temple, much appreciated. It's way too early to evaluate any 2012 signing, but the early indications are that Puig has a lot of talent. The Dodgers have solid evaluators, and Logan White is the guy who pulled the trigger, so my guess is that Puig has a good chance of being a really good player. It's funny, but no one ever worries about how much a guy cost if he turns out to be a good player. (Dan Evans) |
