BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2004 Vance was a Georgia Tech lefty picked a year after fellow Yellow Jacket lefty Chuck Crowder had joined the Rockies. Crowder got early touts, then flamed out, whereas Vance got fewer plugs, but survived. Like a lot of lefties, he doesn't throw hard, instead getting by with a curve and a change. He's not the sort of guy you see making it as a rotation regular in Coors, not when the altitude flattens junk, making it easier for every right-handed hitter to merdilate it, extra biscuit for breakfast or not. A future as a lefty swingman beckons.
2003 Vance had a poor work ethic between starts when the year began, but it got better. He then became Carolina’s ace by default when Cook and Young left. He runs up high pitch counts when he loses track of his fastball, often busting the 100-pitch threshold by the fifth inning. If you’re a sadist, the PCL will be a good test for those bad equivalencies.
