2017-04-28 13:30:00 (link to chat) | If Rosario comes up, do you think he plays 3B or Asdrubal shifts to 3rd? (Ceej from Pittsburgh ) | Man, I think he should be at short. Whether Terry Collins puts him there...that's another question. I would put Rosario at short and shift Asdrubal, but I don't have to deal with the dynamics of displacing a veteran for a rookie, so (Craig Goldstein) |
2016-09-07 19:00:00 (link to chat) | Can we talk about why James Loney is still starting games? Wilmer Flores is almost as good against righties at this point. (greg from NY) | Terry Collins loves veterans. One of the problems with employing James Loney is that your manager can keep justifying James Loney because he's still hitting .270 or whatever with a reputation as a good glove even when he's significantly sub-replacement.
There's no excuse for Loney to see another start this year. If you're that set on starting a lefty there, Bruce has 1B experience and relieves the OF logjam, and Kelly Johnson is also a better player.
This is the only Wilmer Flores question, so I'll throw this in: I think this might be the emergence we've been waiting years for. Finally. Hopefully. I love the dude. Maybe it's wishcasting. (Jarrett Seidler) |
2016-09-07 19:00:00 (link to chat) | Who is Michael conforto. What kind of player will he be in 2017 and beyond? I have no clue what to make of him at this point (Aaron from Nj) | I think Michael Conforto is an above-average MLB COF that needs a manager that's going to play him for 150 games and stop messing around. I don't see any indication Terry Collins is that manager.
As of right now, he probably needs to be a CF to have a MLB regular role breaking camp on the 2017 Mets, and even at that Collins would platoon him with Lagares. It's turning into a bad situation and at some point you start wondering what happened that we don't know about. (Jarrett Seidler) |
2015-10-27 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you agree with Terry Collins's decision to DH Kelly Johnson or should they have DH'd Conforto and let Lagares patrol center? (Rich from NY) | I think there is an argument for both. Johnson allows them to stack lefties against the Royals heavily right-handed staff, but Lagares in CF sliding Cespedes to left is a big defensive upgrade. Ultimately, Lagares has been so bad against right-handed pitching for his career (.254/.286/.340) that I think this is probably the right call. (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2014-08-04 13:00:00 (link to chat) | WHY OH WHY Wont the Mets actually give Wilmer Flores a shot, does Sandy Alderson need to take Ruben Tejada away from Terry Collins? (Steve from Winnipeg) | I don't know, Steve. Ive been saying since this past winter that they needed to give Flores at-bats, even if it meant having to watch him butcher things at SS. Who cares? It's not going to be a competitive season anyway. Let's see just how well the kid can hit. But instead we're getting more confirmation that he can rake in Vegas. Big whoop. I don't get it. He needs to play regularly in the majors and I don't care at what position. The Mets are going to go into next year still not knowing what kind of bat he is at the major league level, and that's a travesty. (Jeff Moore) |
