2016-05-16 23:00:00 (link to chat) | Can we get your thoughts on some diverse group of prospects: Yohander Mendez, Ronald Guzman, Jacob Faria, Tyler O'Neill, & Max Fried? Can we see any of them this year in the show & should we be buying or concerned in there early season performance? (Bob from Northern Hemisphere) | I've had High Desert come to town twice already and managed to miss both Mendez and Luis Ortiz both times. Very good reports on Mendez though, his performance has been legit. Guzman's doing things this year that I did not think he was going to get to a place to do. My report on him from last year is below. He spent most of his season lost last year, was tinkering with his setup every time I saw him & never showed any signs - in BP, in games - of an ability to turn on the ball with authority. O'Neill looks like Mr. Universe and has some requisite stiffness in his swing, but effort so far's confirming that it wasn't all Bakersfield's toy store dimensions last year. I don't have any updates on Fried from this spring, sorry. David Lee was lukewarm on Faria in a recent writeup.

2016-05-17 14:00:00 (link to chat) | Is there a farm system that has as much depth and upside for pitchers than the Pirates? With Glasnow, Taillon, Kingham, Keller, Kuhl, Brault, Eppler, all are dominating or have legitimate shots to be main stays in a rotation. (detlef schrempf from Zimbabwe) | So many Pirates questions!
The one org that you could consider is Tampa Bay. Blake Snell, Brent Honeywell, Taylor Guerrieri, Jacob Faria and co. are nothing to sneeze at. Love Pittsburgh's young arms though, they're pretty damn good. (Nicolas Stellini) |
2016-05-12 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Can we get your thoughts on some diverse group of prospects: Joe Musgrove, Ronald Guzman, Jacob Faria, Tyler O'Neill, & Max Fried? Can we see any of them this year in the show & should we be buying or concerned in there early season performance? (Bob from Northern Hemisphere) | Well, that certainly is a diverse group of prospects. The only one I would say is going to make an impact in 2016 is Musgrove, he was just promoted to Triple-A after dominating in Corpus Christi. Really impressed with O'Neill's start, the approach has improved a lot over this first month. Fried is struggling to throw strikes (common theme!) but like Fedde, some rust to shake off there, he needs to just stay healthy. But yeah, the guy who is gonna make an impact in 2016 is Musgrove. I was too low on him this preseason. (Christopher Crawford) |
No BP Roundtables have mentioned this guy.
A Collaboration between BrooksBaseball.net and Baseball Prospectus - Pitch classifications provided by Pitch Info LLC
Although he has not thrown an MLB pitch in 2025, Jake Faria threw 4,934 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2017 and 2023, all of them occuring in Spring Training. In 2023, he relied primarily on his Fourseam Fastball (93mph) and Slider (86mph), also mixing in a Splitter (84mph) and Curve (80mph).
