The upside is immense, but we may have to come to terms with the reality that he's just never going to harness the command and control to reach it. I'd put the chances at 5%. (ColeWhittier from Pasadena, CA)		I'd put 50 and 60 OFP's on them respectively, although he's another guy who will have to make adjustments. He likes to take a lot of pitches, and while he's not strictly a mistake hitter, his approach in the minors put him in a lot of situations where he was able to take advantage of bad pitches, and those opportunities will shrink in the big leagues. He'll also have to contend with a larger strike zone, which will be an adjustment in and of itself for a guy who learned the minor league version very well. I think he can be an every day DH, but it may take him a while to get going. (Brendan Gawlowski)

(George from Moosejaw, Saskatchewan)		I am a long and well-established fan of Vogelbach's hitting skills, and while Seattle wasn't an *ideal* landing spot, it wasn't the worst either. SafeCo has played sneaky alright for left-handed power in recent vintage, and Vogelbach's a good, heady hitter that should be able to get on base at a solid clip wherever he plays. The playable power will be the thing that determines whether he's a stud or more of a good-Billy-Butler type (and I mean that in a good way, Butler was a solid hitter for a few years, if you can believe that).

Let's talk about Prince Far-I for a second. He came to as a bull-voiced prophet of a DJ, earning the nicknake "Voice of Thunder," before migrating into production. Dude was prolific as all hell, and he periodically stole the Roots Radics band from Channel One and renamed 'em the Arabs for a series of records in the late-70's, early-80's. (Dan from Chicago)		If you let him get 600 ABs with the Yankees he will mash ton of home runs with how the dimensions are but he literally can't play in the field, and he's not giving you any value on the base paths. Theres no where for him on the Cubs to play, especially with the Cubs roster construction and how Maddon likes to play. So we have a guy that can't play the field, won't provide value on the base paths, and hasn't shown the game power he shows in BP. Its not very promising.

Line? Not my strong suit. He has a great eye which helps him, but theres so much working against him. He would be an improvement over some teams current DHs. Or at least I would give him at bats over some current DHs.

I did see him steal a base once in the MWL though and I will never forget that. (Grant Jones)

(Max from In a Uber)		From what I've heard, Reed's upside is higher, and Reed has more defensive utility as well. Vogelbach sounds like a guy who will be stretched defensively at 1B, so he'll probably have to move the the AL so he can take his 5-6 plate appearances per day without having to play defense. Vogelbach might be a better hitter if both were promoted tomorrow, but Vogelbach has been developing in the minors since 2011 compared to Reed, who started his professional career in 2014. The most likely outcome is that Reed overtakes Vogelbach by the end of this year or early next year and never looks back. (Scooter Hotz)

He's a poor fit in the NL, as his reaching-for-a-chicken-wing range is not appropriate to display for paying customers at big league games. But he can HIT, man. I always want to see a player with power potential establish his hitting chops before his playable power, and Vogelbach's shown me that. He'll hit for power, don't you worry. 2015-10-22 14:00:00 (link to chat)Regardless of what happens the rest of this series, tough to be disappointed by '15 CHC campaign. What optimizations, in terms of diversifying lineup & improving D, do you see front office making? Adding SP is a no-brainer.
(Matt from Chicago)		This is going to be a capital-F Fun winter for the Cubs and Cubs fans. The defining characteristic of the organization right now is modularity. You can rearrange three dozen pieces into a thousand different set-ups for next season. With their prospect depth, the young guys established on the big-league team and the questions surrounding them, things could break so many different ways. I'll note a couple things I think are inevitable:
1. Dexter Fowler will be given the qualifying offer, and then the Cubs will very politely stop taking his calls. He was great for them, an absolutely perfect fit that catalyzed their season before it even began, but now they need other things in center field. Namely, they need a defensive anchor, someone who can shore up the outfield defense even if the team decides to go into next season with the big bats of Schwarber and Soler in the corners.
2. There will be some consolidation of multiple useful assets into a single, closer to elite one. The model I'm using in my head is the Cardinals' trade for Jason Heyward last November. They had a good player (Shelby Miller) for whom they no longer had room, and a really valuable pop-up pitching prospect (Tyrell Jenkins) who was due to land on the 40-man roster or be made available in the Rule 5 Draft, but whom they couldn't squeeze onto their own 40-man. For future reference, the Cubs' most notable Jenkins types-not only in that they will need to go onto the 40-man roster this year, but in that the Cubs will have a hard time keeping them-for this winter are Jeimer Candelario and Dan Vogelbach. The thing they need to look for in their trade target is well-roundedness. (Matthew Trueblood)

The 1B position is a little thin in the minors, unless you believe Dan Vogelbach can actually play adequate defense at the position. His bat is tremendous, and perhaps still underrated. (J.P. Breen)

He's not great but there are probably worse defensive catchers in the majors right now. I think he'll be good enough to catch 2-3 days per week, which could be huge. Either way, he's not playing first base with the Cubs. Between Anthony Rizzo and Dan Vogelbach, they'll have to find a different spot for him if he can't catch. (Jeff Moore)

(Bud from AZ)		He has more value to an AL team than to the Cubs. Even if he improves his defense, he's not going to unseat Rizzo, who seems firmly entrenched now. He probably wouldn't get too much right now just by himself, but if he has some success in Double-A, he could really increase his value. It's awfully tough to be more than a 3 win player as a DH, but he could get to that point. If they wanted to re-acquire a guy like Jason Hammel, Vogelbach might get it done straight up if he has a good season this year. (Jeff Moore)

I can't imagine him playing full-time in the National League for any team, which means he would need to be traded to the American League before he had any fantasy relevance. If and when he does become a regular, does he have the high power upside that the other top Cubs prospects have or will he be closer to a 15 hr Billy Butler type?
(Steve from Los Angeles)		You know, he's gotten into better shape this year and it's a little better out in the field. He'll still have to hit like hell out there to be viable in an NL lineup but it's no longer absurd in my opinion.

He has power but he gets into his own head and that limits the utility overall. I think if he makes it to the majors he can be in the 20-25 HR range rather than the Billy Butler tier. He hits the ball HARD. (Mauricio Rubio)

Most of these guys should be good for 20-25 homers, but at 1B or LF, that alone doesn't get you much past second-division regular territory. Well Anthony Rizzo is a reason, but Rizzo will have to hit more and better than he did last season before he can lay claim to the position long term (yes, I know about the contract). In a previous chat, Jason Parks was asked about Vogelbach and he said, and I quote, "He can f'n hit!" only he didn't say f'n. So I don't know about .300, but 30 homers isn't out of the question. (Matthew Kory)
