2020-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat) | In a Strat league, I have a chance to trade for either Teoscar Hernandez or Randall Grichuk. Who do you like best and who does the organization value more? It is a Strat league, so defense and baserunning matter, too. thanks (Slappy from NC) | I prefer Teoscar although I'll admit I'm not up on current Strat-O-Matic (I'm doing a 2006 Strat sim right now) so I don't know how the defense is rated. But I like that Teoscar has more flexibility and is running more so in this format I'll take Teoscar. (Mike Gianella) |
2020-04-17 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hi Jesse, I am looking to fill the last 2 roster spots on my dynasty team with current MLB players at any position with potential for 2021 and beyond given that there may not be any baseball in 2020. I am considering the following players: Sam Hilliard, Travis Shaw, Lewis Brinson, Stephen Piscotty, Jose Peraza, Manuel Margot, Teoscar Hernandez, Rowdy Tellez, Jesus Aguilar, Brandon Belt. Who would you go with? Thanks! (Jay from CT) | Sam Hilliard and Travis Shaw.
Note, Daniel Murphy likely is a free agent after the 2020 season ($12 mil mutual option in 2021 will most certainly not be exercised) so there should be one less obstacle to playing time for Hilliard next year (meaning McMahon to 1B and Hampson from UT/CF to 2B). (Jesse Roche) |
2018-05-17 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Blue Jays have been revolving OFs all season. Barring injuries, who do you see them settling on for the 3 spots this year and next? Do you think they start a youth movement? Thanks... (Jim from Kansas) | Ah, now here's a question that fits in my wheelhouse. I'm all aboard the Teoscar Hernandez hype train after getting a live look at him in Pawtucket last year after the trade. I think his power and athleticism will play, and he should be on the field every day. And while Kevin Pillar has his warts, I'd like to see him continue to get reps in center even though he's hitting way above his head right now.
For the third spot, I think this season should be a Curtis Granderson / Anthony Alford platoon. I'd like to see Alford continue to get big league reps, and Granderson is likely to be an amazing influence in the clubhouse who can also still hit a little ... sometimes. (Steve Pearce should play super-sub and Randal Grichuk should play golf.) For 2019, I'd probably go out and get an outfielder unless all three of Alford, Hernandez, and Pillar have breakout years. Preferably, it'd be an upper-tier guy and I'd love to see them land Charlie Blackmon. (Bryan Grosnick) |
2018-01-11 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Does Teoscar Hernandez have what it takes to be an everyday outfielder in the bigs or does he fit into more of a 4th OF? (Fighting Moose from Manitoba) | Fourth for me (Jeffrey Paternostro) |
2017-07-13 14:00:00 (link to chat) | When will the next major trade occur? (Jeb from Illinois) | Let's say Sonny Gray to the Astros on July 18 for Kyle Tucker, Franklin Perez, and Teoscar Hernandez. (Mark Barry) |
2015-06-02 18:00:00 (link to chat) | Is Teoscar Hernandez a fourth outfielder? So toolsy, but struggling like crazy. (bdiamond from CT) | Likely a second division starter/fourth outfielder. There's some potential for more but not much. (Mauricio Rubio) |
2015-04-29 20:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you find all around profiles of guys like Brett Phillips, Derek Fisher, and Teoscar Hernandez (yes, I just realized that these are all Houston outfielders....) more attractive or less in H2H leagues? All seem like potential 15/15 or 20/20 players, but I can't tell if that's better or worse than a 10/30 or 30/10 guy. (Dan from Montana) | I prefer those types of players in all leagues, but sure, they get a slight bump up in H2H. (Bret Sayre) |
2014-08-08 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Hi Craig, question about dynasty league trade, 7x7 with OBP and K for hitters, QS and L for pitchers. I receive Hosmer and Teoscar Hernandez, I give up Yorfano Ventura, Taillon and Marisnick. Would value your thoughts? Thank you (Tim from TX) | Ventura is the best player in that deal and I'd want the side with him. (Craig Goldstein) |
2014-07-31 19:30:00 (link to chat) | Who do like better out of Manuel Margot, Lewis Brinson and Teoscar Hernandez and why? (scott from az) | For fantasy purposes, the answer is Brinson. He oozes tools -- he's more than just speed. (Ben Carsley) |
2014-07-07 11:00:00 (link to chat) | How far off top-50 or even top-101 level is Teoscar Hernandez? (Behemoth from Scotland) | 101 is very likely. Very happy for this kid. Glowing reports (Jason Parks on the Top 50) |
2014-06-24 13:00:00 (link to chat) | What are your thoughts on Teoscar Hernandez? He seems to be killing it in High A and could be a 5 tool prospect to man CF for years. (Michael from TX) | I wouldn't go that far. Hernandez may be a bit underrated in a system full of guys with huge upside. However, he's more of a second division guy or extra OF for me. Ron Shah has an eye-witness report on him right here: https://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=23529&mode=print#hitreport82 (Jordan Gorosh) |
2013-10-15 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Did Teoscar Hernandez help or hurt his stock this season? What do you think of him going forward? (Ashitaka1110 from Houston, TX) | I think his stock is similar. He's going to repeat as an On the Rise type. He has a chance to keep moving forward. The reason he won't crack the Astros Top Ten has more to do with the talent in the system than his performance in 2013. (Jason Parks) |
2013-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Have you seen Teoscar Hernandez at all this year? (Behemoth from Scotland) | I have not but the reports have been good. He'll be in the top 10 conversation in a very strong Astros system. (Jason Cole) |
