2017-03-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you see Adalberto Mejia making the team and possibly as a 5th starter ?
(Craig from Fargo ND)
Mejia will probably begin the season at Triple-A, but he's likely either first or second on the call-up list whenever the Twins need rotation help. I like him as a fourth-starter type, but he's no sure thing to be successful in the majors. Solid pickup in exchange for Eduardo Nunez, though. (Aaron Gleeman)
2017-03-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Pick two to round out dynasty keepers on the farm: Dustin May, Duane Underwood, Mark Appel, Thyago Viera, Adalberto Mejia, Franchy Cordero. Thanks!
(Steve from Wilmington)
My Dustin May love is well known. The rest of that list is uh, something. Mejia I guess. Ben is psychically sending me messages to tell you not to roster prospect relievers in a dynasty league. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-09-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Did you see any of Adalberto Mejia? If so curious for your thoughts on him. I'm much less optimistic now that he's out of the NL, out of home at ATT park, and blocked by a slew of ineffectual vets on the twins pitching staff.
(Thomas from TX)
I have not seen him; looks like a pretty safe backend starter profile though. (Brendan Gawlowski)
2016-06-20 16:00:00 (link to chat)Adalberto Mejia just got promoted to AAA & pitched well in his debut. What should we think on him going forward?
(Igor from A bar)
I saw Mejia in the fall league, here was my report on him.

55FB, 45SL, 60CH, 50Control, 50Command

Large frame with XL stocky build, looks closer to 230/240 than 195. Weight will have to be watched as he progresses, pitches from the middle of the rubber, simple delivery with lack of momentum, needs to use body more instead of just arm, smooth clean arm action with fair arm speed, throws from a 3/4 slot, tended to drop slot. FB 90-92 T93, fair sink on pitch, command fair. CH 83-86, best pitch, thrown at arm speed and has late movement and bottoming out, was comfortable throwing in any count. SL 82-84 T86, shorter pitch with lack of depth, fair action, primarily to LHH, wasn't commanding well. Could see as a 5th starter/Swingman role (Steve Givarz)
2016-04-19 12:00:00 (link to chat)Can Adalberto Mejia be considered as a good major league starting option in the near future? Will his body type be an issue?
(Micah from Stockton, CA)
I saw Mejia's last start against Altoona last Thursday, so I'm going off of that. Maintaining his body definitely will be a question moving forward, as will be controlling his emotions on the mound--though I do like that he's competitive and goes out there with a fire. That said, his body does look trimmer this year, and I thought that he did a good job staying clean and extended through his delivery such that he worked around the zone with a four-pitch mix. So...yes. I will say starter, albeit in the back-end variety. I put a #4 starter ceiling on him; the type of lefty who has value if he's able to eat innings--which he is physical enough to do--mixing four average pitches. (Adam McInturff)
2015-01-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Adalberto Mejia still project as an future #3 SP? How much does his suspension hurt his development?
(Gravybill from The Bowery)
I think so, yes. We are talking about a fairly young talent with a good feel for his offerings, and his mechanical issues are of the type that provide two possible positive outcomes -- (1) with enough reps/instruction he can clean things up and see his stuff tick/command tick-up, or (2) with enough reps he can figure out how to make his quirks work for him pitch-to-pitch, and you have an effective mid-rotation arm wrapped in a non-traditional mechanical package.

The suspension hurts because more than anything he needs to just continue to throw. But as noted in his write-up, if he uses this time to improve conditioning, off-field work/prep, etc., it might be a nice reset before he begins the second half of his minor league development. The body and mechanics are big questions, but mid-rotation upside still a solid possible outcome for me. (NL West Top 10s With Nick Faleris)
2014-04-03 19:30:00 (link to chat)Hello, good sir! Would you be so kind as to rank the following high upside arms? Jose Martinez, Adalberto Mejia, Lewis Thorpe, Alberto Tirado.
(Gravybill from New York, NY)
My order of preference: Tirado, Martinez, Mejia, Thorpe but all have pluses and minuses. (Craig Goldstein)
2014-02-26 19:00:00 (link to chat)How would you rank Adalberto Mejia, Nick Kingham, Lewis Thorpe, and Vincent Velazquez?
(Victor from Dumfries)
- Kingham, Mejia, Thorpe and Velazquez. I like Kingham's profile. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-02-18 14:00:00 (link to chat)Which prospect in the Giants system besides Crick has the most upside?
(Chris from Bay Area)
One of their arms. I'll go with Adalberto Mejia, who has a chance for three plus pitches. Someone could make a case for Edwin Escobar, but I won't do that. (Ronit Shah)
2013-12-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Vegas over/under number of number 2 or better starters from this group: Lewis Thorpe, Julio Urias, Hunter Harvey, Edwin Diaz, Alex Reyes, Jesse Hahn, Steven Matz, Adalberto Mejia.
(huggirl from Joisey)
From that group, one pitcher will develop into a number two starter (or better). I was tempted to say 0. (Jason Parks)
