2013-09-04 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Professor Parks, what are your thoughts on Lucas Sims, A.J. Cole & Miguel Almonte heading into the fall? Do you think all 3 have the chance to be role 6 type starters? (kiper90 from Rochester, NY) | I do. The reports on Sims have been fantastic. Very good athlete with stuff and feel. THat's what you want to see. Cole doesn't get a lot of credit as a prospect. The combination of size, stuff, and projection still remaining is pretty fascinating. He's only 21-years-old and is still improving. Almonte is a fox. Love him. (Jason Parks) |
2013-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Does Miguel Almonte project as a #2 or #3 SP? When is he likely to get a shot at the Royals rotation? (Chad from OKC) | #3 with absolute upside of a #2 is probably safe. When I saw him early early this year, I'd probably have put a role 6 on him. Don't forget that he was in complex league ball last season and actually started out in the DSL, so it's a little soon to start thinking seriously about when he'll make an impact in Kansas City. He was in Low-A this year, will likely go to High-A next year with a chance to get some playing time at Double-A. Maybe late 2015? He's got some polish and could always accelerate that a bit, though I don't see him getting there in 2014. (Jason Cole) |
2013-08-08 17:30:00 (link to chat) | Eddie Butler, Tyler Glasnow or Miguel Almonte. Who's the future star? (Sam from St. Louis) | Hi Sam.
Do I have to pick just one? As i said in the Correa/Russell question, it's always tough with guys below AA to guess a trajectory. With pitchers it's especially tough; Double-A is really where we get a good look at whether or not a guy is going to be good enough or if he'll flame out. If I had to pick one, it would be Glasnow. I like guys in the minors with over a strikeout an inning. The walk rate concerns me, but that's something that he could ultimately fix. If you're not striking out over a batter an inning in the low minors, are you going to do that in the Majors. A few guys have done it, but it's the exception and not the rule. It's Glasnow for me. (Mike Gianella) |
2013-07-29 11:00:00 (link to chat) | What's the latest on Miguel Almonte? It seems like he was hot for a week, then kind of faded away. (RotoLando from Cloud City) | He's still very good, Almonte has the stuff to pitch in the front of a rotation. (Zach Mortimer) |
2013-07-29 11:00:00 (link to chat) | Have you seen Miguel Almonte? Some stuff I read is he could really jump up lists next year...thanks (Andy B from WI) | Yes; Almonte has an easy plus fastball, potential plus-plus changeup, and a developing breaking ball. He could be a number 2 starter. (Zach Mortimer) |
2013-06-13 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Miguel Almonte or Folty ? (John Boy from Chicago) | Good question. They're close. Give me Folty. (Jason Cole) |
2013-05-29 18:30:00 (link to chat) | Do you prefer Jose Rafael De Paula (NYY) or Miguel Almonte (KC) and why ? (Ernie from Boston) | Hi Ernie:
This is really a question for Jason Parks and his crack team of minor league mavens. I had to look both of these guys up. In a fantasy league, I'd take De Paula just because he's a little older and in fantasy teenage pitchers are a complete crapshoot. (Mike Gianella) |
2013-05-16 13:00:00 (link to chat) | I've been hearing renewed buzz about Chris Dwyer as well as Miguel Almonte. Is there legit help for the Royals pitching staff in the system past Kyle Zimmer? BTW, just read Eyewitness Accounts = GREAT STUFF. THANKS! (LoyalRoyal from Kansas) | I might like Almonte more than any other arm in the Royals system, and I've been beating that drum since last fall when he stole my soul during instructs. Its a very easy, simple delivery; the arm works very well; the fastball pops in the 92-95 range with comfort; can touch higher; the CH is a major league quality pitch; could end up a 7 on the 2/8; great arm speed on the pitch; good deception and late action; curveball is okay; can show depth at 75-78; slider might make a case; good command profile. I like him. I think he has a shot at developing into a 2/3 type like Zimmer. (Jason Parks) |
2013-05-16 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Miguel Almonte or Rafael DePaula? Adam Brett Walker or Nick Williams?
Thanks (Fred from Madison) | Almonte and WIlliams. (Jason Parks) |
2013-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Thanks for doing the chat. In Jason Parks' last chat, he identified Mike Foltynewicz and Burch Smith as two guys that were rising. What do you think of these guys? Who are some other under-the-radar pitchers that might be fast risers? (boneil33 from Boston) | I haven't seen Foltynewicz before, but I know he has been flashing some elite velocity out of his 6'4" frame. I'm sure I'll get a look at him in Corpus Christi before the season is over. Burch Smith, who I addressed in this week's Ten Pack and at the beginning of this chat, is certainly rising as well. Just going off guys I've seen, I think Matt Wisler is seriously rising this camp and season. Miguel Almonte with the Royals is another. (Jason Cole) |
2013-04-16 20:00:00 (link to chat) | Higher Ceiling and Year they get to the League if you are feeling adventurous: Ventura or Zimmer? Mondesi or Calixte? Hernandez or Bonifacio?
Any sleepers in the Royals system? (Nate from KC) | Ventura (late 2013), Mondesi (2016), Bonifacio (2015). Miguel Almonte is a guy to keep a close eye on. (Bret Sayre) |
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat) | Hey Parks, who are some of your favourite non-top 101 potential risers? (Guys who weren't on the 101 but very well could be, and maybe highly rated, by midseason) (froston from Peterborough, ON) | Miguel Almonte, Alberto Tirado, Matt Wisler, Andrew Heaney, Rafael DePaula, Joey Gallo, Owens, Snell, Seager (Jason Parks) |
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat) | Luiz Gohara and Miguel Almonte walk into a bar.... (Mike from Utica, NY) | They get carded and kicked out. (Jason Parks) |
2013-02-25 11:00:00 (link to chat) | favorite prospect that no one is talking about? (kramer from anytown) | I have a prospect bulge for Miguel Almonte. I'm probably too high on him. I wanted him for the 101. I had to be sedated. (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects) |
2013-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat) | JO Berrios or Miguel Almonte in a deep dynasty league ? (Guru from North Pole, AK) | Berrios. Doug Thorburn, my colleague here & SP Guide partner, was educating me on Berrios the other night so I will transfer that education over to you as an endorsement of him. (Paul Sporer) |
2013-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat) | who's your favorite high upside player not yet in full season ball? (Pat G from Long Island) | I'm quite high on Alberto Tirado and Miguel Almonte on the pitching front. (Jason Parks) |
2013-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat) | Do you see Miguel Almonte really moving up the rankings this year? Possibly into the top 30? (steve from lincoln) | That's a pretty extreme jump, but I think more people will be aware of his existence next season and he should be a top 100 guy if his full-season debut is a success. Talent and production don't always enjoy a happy marriage in the low minors. (Jason Parks) |
2012-12-13 13:00:00 (link to chat) | If you had one name to give about a guy who's unknown right now but could be a huge name come midseason, who would that be and why? (Ian from Tampa Bay) | I'm on the Miguel Almonte bandwagon. I think others will soon jump on. (Jason Parks) |
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat) | who is set to make the biggest jump in prospect status in the royals system this year? (pat from kc) | Two players: RHP Miguel Almonte and SS Aldaberto Mondesi. I will push to have both in the top 10 in that already deep system. They are impressive talents. (Jason Parks) |
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat) | what player(s?) impressed you the most in Fall Instructs? (knockoutking from East Texas) | Royals RHP Miguel Almonte was excellent. I really liked him. Dodgers SS Corey Seager was also impressive. He will end up at 3B, but he can really swing the bat. (Jason Parks) |
