2016-06-07 12:00:00 (link to chat)For 30 team fantasy leagues, what is a general strategy for prospects. Is it a general rule to lean more towards bats, or is it better to be more down the middle? Thanks for the work!
(Lefty08 from Arkansas)
I assume this means a whole lot of prospects get rostered (for reference when you ask me these things the last fantasy league I played in was an AL-only H2H where I rode a good John Lackey Angels season and a post-deadline-dealt Placido Polanco to a title). I would go for balance. Guys far away with upside, closer, higher floor guys, arms and bats. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2014-07-24 19:00:00 (link to chat)Who has your favourite name to say? Who has your favourite other people say? Past present or future!
(otirol from Southern Ontario)
Currently it's Arismendy Alcántara, all time is a toughie, but:
Eugenio Velez
Placido Polanco
Vladimir Guerrero
Raimel Tapia
Runelvys Hernandez

are a few of my all time favorites. (Mauricio Rubio)
2013-03-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Christian Yelich is having a fabulous Spring Training with the Marlins. For contract reasons we all know he won't make the team come Opening Day. But after Stanton, he's the best position player anywhere in the entire organization, isn't he? Though that might not be saying more about the Marlins than it is about Yelich.
(Paul from DC)
Stanton is definitely No. 1, and I guess you could make an argument for Yelich as No. 2 right now. PECOTA says Justin Ruggiano should be a 2+ win player this year, which is a nice development for them. But I wouldn't be stunned if Yelich could come up now and outplay that.

By the way, Placido Polanco is third on that list. So yeah, that says something about the Marlins. (Zachary Levine)
2012-09-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi, Jason. Good work to you and BP in strengthening the prospect coverage. Future is looking good. Can you compare/contrast 2B prospects Jonathan Schoop and Rougned Odor? Seems like the shine is off of Schoop a bit after a subpar season, numbers-wise. What have you heard from scouts about what the numbers might not be telling us? He was young for that level so I'm hoping the numbers are not a huge red flag. Similarly, do you like what you are seeing/hearing about Odor?
(ORWahoo from Tigard, OR)
Very different players. Schoop has good size and an impressive physical quality about him. I think he could develop into an average offensive player, and maybe develop a little more pop than expected. Odor is a Gestalt prospect, with his overall grade being more impressive than any individual tool. He is a Placido Polanco type, with good actions/range at 2B, and a quick bat capable of line-drive pop. He's a major league regular for me. I would take him over Schoop. (Jason Parks)
2012-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)That's funny, I never even think of C as a position since I've never, ever had a good C before.
(kddean from loop)
That might be a mistake. Catcher is the most scarce and definitely needs to be paid attention to. Their stats count just as much as anyone else's. Would you rather have Brian McCann and Placido Polanco or Pablo Sandoval and George Kottaras? (Derek Carty)
2010-10-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)They're being paid about the same, who do you like more at third base? Brandon Inge or Placido Polanco?
(singledigit from rainy San Diego)
I'm assuming the third option is a hole in my head, because I'm not wild about either for more than place-holding purposes. Inge can be a great defender, but he's not very valuable against right-handed pitching. Polanco at least provides positional flexibility, so I'd favor him. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-11-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)More ridiculous recipient of an MVP vote this year, Placido Polanco or Jeremy Affeldt?
(brian from brooklyn)
More ridiculous is Chase Utley falling out of the top five. (Eric Seidman)
2009-08-04 14:00:00 (link to chat)Would this offseason be a good time for the Reds to trade Brandon Phillips, what with Todd Frazier coming down the line and their whole payroll going to about four players? It seems like they could get something real pretty in return.
(Charles from Detroit)
It's worth considering, because after Mark DeRosa and Orlando Hudson in the free-agent pool, you've got Placido Polanco. The problem will be Phillips' back-loaded contract and whether the Reds will eat any of it, because otherwise the number of teams willing to trade for a guy due to make $11 million in 2011 are few and far between. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-05-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)At roughly 40 games in, could you handicap the AL Central? Can the Tigers still go the distance w/o much from Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen, and Placido Polanco?
(lemppi from Ankeny, IA)
The best single unit is the Tigers' rotation, which has been very good. I don't think Dontrelle Willis is the solution in the #5 slot--I'd rather see Bonderman replace him than Galarraga--but Verlander/Jackson (11 walks!)/Porcello is a great way to start. They need some bullpen help and maybe a lefty bat, although Larish could fill that role. (Joe Sheehan)

2008-10-27 16:30:00World Series Game FiveOne question I'll throw out there is, if Longoria and Pena finish the Series without hits, how historic is that? I've been looking over the records in a desultory fashion, and you can find examples like Scott Rolen in 2004 (0-15) or Placido Polanco in 2006 (0-17), but I still haven't gotten to the last time a pair of teammates were shut out.
