2015-01-15 18:00:00 (link to chat)Do the Braves have an outfield prospects nearly ready for the Show? What are they gonna do in LF?
(Kingpin from Grinnell, IA)
I wouldn't be optimistic about much of anything as it relates to outfielders at the upper levels of the Braves' minor league system. Unless you believe Edward Salcedo is suddenly going to put his tools to use, or Joey Terdoslavich is going to take the role, then as it stands now, the position is likely to remain a bit of a hole. (Mark Anderson)
2013-05-30 13:30:00 (link to chat)Hi Mark. To watch prospects playing well in AA at ages 20-22 must be like watching them grow up before your eyes. Enter as boys, leave as men. With this in mind I have questions about a few AA 3rd basemen. Malkiel Franco. Is his breakout 'real' and even more impressive given it is happening in the FSL?. Is Edward Salcedo starting to put it together as a glance at his numbers would seem to indicate? Thanks
(mike mcd from ottawa)
I have always been a Maikel Franco apologist since I saw him as a teenager during Instructs several years ago. I think he has All-Star potential once it all comes together. For me, his breakout is very real and he's the best positional prospect in the Phillies system. With Salcedo, I have always liked the tools but I don't think they'll ever fully translate to the game. He's made some strides this year and it shows in the numbers, but he still has a long way to go before I consider it a true breakout. (Mark Anderson)
2013-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Chris Johnson and Juan Francisco will have over 200 strikeouts between them. They don't know what a walk is. They both can't field. Edward Salcedo is at least two years away and his ceiling is likely to be another Johnson or Francisco himself. I really like Atlanta's chances this season so when this 3B inadequacy becomes all too apparent by June 15 what will Atlanta do?
(michaelmcduffe from ottawa)
If that's their biggest hole and it bats eighth, they can live with it, but if it becomes too big to deal with then they still have prospects to deal away for a D-first, league average or just below bat at 3B. Can't think of a specific name right now, but options will emerge. I think their tandem will be fine, though. (Paul Sporer)
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat)As a life long Braves fan, I have a questions about a couple of prospects. Evan Gattis and Edward Salcedo. What does the timetable on each look like? Do you think either will develop into an impact player at the major league level?
(Quincy from The A)
Gattis needs to be healthy to make an impact, something that's been quite tough for him. He's not a catcher at the big league level and he has to hit at the top of his abilities to stand up on an outfield corner. I think he ends up as more of a solid player than one that makes a major impact.

With Salcedo, the tools have always been present, but the approach in the batter's box still lags behind. I think some of the issues he faced around the time he signed, keeping him off the field for a while, really set him back a bit. He's still only 21-years old and he has everything needed to be an impact player. He carries a lot of risk, but he has the makeup and work ethic to pull it off. (Mark Anderson)
2012-04-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Edward Salcedo. One of the few minor league players the 2012 BP Annual attached the word 'superstar' to in any context. Is his ceiling really that high?
(michaelmcduffe from canada)
I didn't write the comment. I disagree that his ceiling is a superstar. He could develop into a very good bat, but I don't see a superstar skill-set. (Jason Parks)
