2015-12-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)How bad are A.J. Griffin's injuries that the A's kept the pitcher with two Tommy John surgeries and a fractured elbow in his history (Jarrod Parker), but designated Griffin for assignment?
(Tom from San Francisco)
Multiple setbacks after TJ, he feels like one of the 15 percent who just never get back. Maybe he does make it back, but it's not like he had huge upside in the first place. Parker is a higher-risk proposition, but also one with higher reward potential. That's what the A's were thinking. (Matthew Trueblood)
2015-09-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)The A's have really gotten a chance to explore their rotation depth this season. Of Kendall Graveman, Jesse Chavez, Sean Nolin, Aaron Brooks, and Felix Doubront, are any more than rotation filler? Right now, in my mind, only Sonny Gray and Chris Bassitt have rotation spots locked down for next season. Jesse Hahn, A.J. Griffin, and Jarrod Parker all seem at varying points of a career ending injury trajectory.
(Jeff from San Francisco)
I wan'ted to buy into Sean Nolin but I don't think any of those guys are much more than rotation filler. Billy Beane will have to get pretty creative next year to plug those rotation spots. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-04-16 19:00:00 (link to chat)A few injured pitchers are going to be coming off the DL in the coming months (ERA WHIP K SAVES WINS) A.J. Griffin or Joulys Chacin are the injuries serious enough to avoid the pickup and who's the better of the two?
(Nathan Eovaldi from The high 90s)
Nice to see you off to a good start, Nate. If either guy makes it back healthy you can pick him up, but I strongly prefer Griffin, given Chacin's contextual factors. (Ben Carsley)
2013-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)I was wondering what you think about Oakland so far this season? They seem to be able to win the close games and have a young pitching staff that remains somewhat under the radar(Griffin and Milone are both off to good starts).
(Drew Balen from Edmonton)
Hey Drew, good to hear from you. Hope to catch you at the AFL again this year. I like what I've seen so far from the A's. I'm a huge A.J. Griffin fan, mostly because he went to my alma mater but also because he's a better pitcher than a lot of people may have thought. The offense has been great. Oakland fans should be excited. (Geoff Young)
2013-03-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are a few of your favorite players this season? (MLB or minor)
(Batpoet from San Diego)
Hi Batpoet, always good to see my Twitter friends here; glad you could join us! At the big-league level, I have a fondness for guys who attended my alma mater or who I saw play a lot in the minors. That would include A.J. Griffin, Oliver Perez, Kyle Blanks, Headley. Current minor leaguers? Austin Hedges, who I look forward to watching at Lake Elsinore. And of course, Billy Hamilton, who is just so disruptive. I doubt I'll ever get tired of watching him play. (Geoff Young)
2012-10-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which new team did you find yourself gravitating towards the most as you couldn't watch the Padres from the comfort of your own home?
(Bryant from San Diego)
I watched mainly Angels and A's games. I gravitated more toward the A's over the final two months because they were fun to watch. They weren't supposed to be winning like that. Cespedes is awesome, and the whole "Weekend at Bernie's" thing amused me to no end. Plus A.J. Griffin went to my alma mater and I watched him pitch in college. Go Toreros! (Geoff Young)
