2011-11-16 13:30:00 (link to chat)What other moves do you predict the Giants will make? Give me something.... Anything
(Tbirds from Seattle)
The Giants signed Gregor Blanco this morning. What, you want more? Starving children in San Diego have to make do with Mark Kotsay, and you're complaining? Finish your vegetables.

Are there any other lefty relievers out there they could sign? Does the sight of Ryan Ludwick excite you? (Ben Lindbergh)
2011-10-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Shouldn't RR just have played Kotsay in RF for the struggling Corey Hart if he really wanted Kotsay's bat in the line-up. If RR is content making decisions on small sample sizes, wouldn't that have been the better play where his defense could have been hidden better? Especially with Hart's D and speed not what it once was.
(ryans from Milwaukee)
You're questioning the logic of a man who has been in love with Mark Kotsay all season. That's not easy.

I agree with you and think that would have been a perfectly valid way to go. I'm not sure who would have slid into the leadoff spot there - Weeks should be the answer, but it would probably have been Gomez or Morgan. My guess, like I said before, is that Roenicke wanted to minimize the waves he caused in the lineup. He can take Gomez and Morgan out of a game any time he wants since they've been platooned all year. Removing Hart from the lineup would be a big deal in the clubhouse, and that's not something he's willing to do right now (though he has started Hairston over McGehee all October, so at least he's done that). (The Common Man from Getting Closer)
The Brewers have been playing way too poorly recently to give him a fair shake. He has issues with the lineup (in batting order and defensive position). For some reason, he's in love with Mark Kotsay, even going to so far as to start him in CF yesterday over Brandon Boggs. A lot of Brewers fans hate Roenicke's tendency to go for extra bases, but I'm not jumping on that yet. Doing the Tracker, I've gotten used to subconsciously timing players as they move around the field... if done right, extra bases are definitely there for the taking. Players need to be wiser about it, though.

He hasn't gotten off to a great start yet, that's for sure. (Larry Granillo)
2010-09-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Will the 2011 Padres be questioning whether all that division-leading, playoff contender stuff from the previous season was all just a really cool dream?

"Marc will write something about this when he's done being depressed."--Marc

Yes, in the grand tradition of Rickey Henderson and...Mark Kotsay? (http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/looking-at-2010-from-a-mark-kotsay-standpoint.php), that's a self-reference in the third person. (Ben Lindbergh)
2008-01-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)I'm a Braves fan. Could you please explain why you think Mark Kotsay, at $2Million a year, and some possible talent from the minors, is better than about a hundred different guys you could find in the minors for nothing? Kotsay's a lousy ballplayer, and your organization, in particular, shouldn't be shy about pointing that out.

I don't think I was, but I try to also see things as Frank Wren does in terms of understanding the possible upside. And like you, I don't believe it. Not that I had any faith in Josh Anderson, but Gregor Blanco has some value. (Christina Kahrl)
