2014-03-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your expectations for Tanner Scheppers from Texas? He's now the opening day starter b/c of the Darvish injury. Does he have what it takes to be a solid #2 or #3?
(holmesp2001 from St. Louis)
The mechanics and past injury history just scream reliever to me. That said, he's got two really good pitches and, depending on the changeup, he could certainly develop into a nice starter. The Rangers have had as much success as any team moving relievers to the rotation, so I'm not going to write him off or anything. I suppose, in a perfect world, he'd turn into a no. 3 starter. But I wouldn't put great odds on that for the aforementioned reasons. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-03-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Paul I trust your pitching instincts more than anyone else's in the industry. There are some attractive mid round starters with RP SP eligibility. Tyson Ross, Smyly, Alex Wood and Tanner Scheppers. In our points format dual eligibility is critically important. How do you rank these guys and which should I reach for and which mignt be less attractive this season?
(Joe Sparma from Detroit )
Ah, the SP/RP guys... I'm aware of their potential improved value in some formats. I think you've actually ranked them as I would, though I might even gamble on Scheppers over Wood. Wood's going to get his shot because their rotation is decimated, but I'm not sure he's a full-time starter. Those mechanics are butt. (Paul Sporer)
2013-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Could Tanner Scheppers start? What are your expectations for Buckel? Does Texas keep Olt or trade him? Do you think Grimm can figure it out?
(Joe Don Luna from North Texas)
Scheppers shouldn't start; Buckel could develop into a solid #4 starter type; not sure about Olt; Grimm is a better prospect than Buckel, and I think could develop into a very good starting pitcher at the major league level. This is a guy that could have three plus pitches and a body to log innings. I really like Grimm. (Jason Parks)
2012-06-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)Will Tanner Scheppers make the majors this year?
(lnodolf from Fillmore,ca)
Jon Daniels promoted Scheppers to the majors before the chat started. So, I'm doubling down on yes. (R.J. Anderson)
