2013 After leveling off at Double-A in 2011, Cavazos-Galvez—a 2009 12th-round pick whose father was a Dodgers reliever—struggled to a .167/.233/.359 April that pushed him back to High-A. While he hit well enough in the offensive havens of Rancho Cucamonga and later Albuquerque to recover some forward momentum, an ankle sprain cost him a month; he played in just half a dozen Rookie League games after July 20. Cavazos-Galvez has tremendous bat speed and a strong arm, but he's still a hacker with a poor approach at the plate, minimal defensive value, and a crowd of younger players behind him in the Dodgers chain.
2012 This 2009 12th-round pick has a true blue pedigree: The son of former Dodger reliever Balvino Galvez, he played his college ball at the University of New Mexico, which shares a ballpark with the Albuquerque Isotopes. Age and a logjam of younger outfield prospects led the Dodgers to push Cavazos-Galvez to Double-A, where his long swing and overly aggressive approach caught up to him, particularly in the first half. As in 2010, he did adjust to the league in the second half (.291/.339/.539, 9 HR). Less flatteringly, he again showed a drastic park split and struggled mightily against righties. Despite his tremendous bat speed, ability to hit to all fields and strong arm, he needs to curb his hacktastic ways, particularly now that he's gravitating to the far left side of the defensive spectrum.
2011 After winning Pioneer League MVP honors in 2009, this 12th-round pick out of the University of New Mexico—which shares the Albuquerque Isotopes' hitter-friendly ballpark—hit just .283/.320/.457 in the first half, but from the All-Star break onward, Cavazos-Galvez feasted at a .372/.383/.615 clip, with a streak in which he hit in 36 out of 37 games. He led the league in doubles and total bases and ranked second in batting average and third in steals (a big surprise), though as in 2009, he was a bit old for his league. He has a long swing and an overly aggressive approach, but Cavazos-Galvez generates tremendous bat speed, can hit to all fields, and sports a strong arm befitting the son of former Dodger reliever Balvino Galvez. There's talk of pushing him to Double-A due to his age and a logjam of outfield prospects behind him.
2010 The son of former Dodger reliever Balvino Galvez, Brian Cavazos-Galvez led his league in six offensive categories including homers and slugging percentage, and claimed MVP honors.
