2015-03-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)How about Zack McAllister or Brandon Maurer? As the Davis doppelgangers... Davisgangers...doppelWaders..
(randolph3030 from Jersey)
Definitely two names, though neither makes me want to quit looking. (Sam Miller)
2013-04-10 20:00:00 (link to chat)You hear anything about the rumor of Hultzen getting called up and Maurer sent down?
(DanMizer from Boston, MA)
Hi Dan:

I saw Geoff Baker's article today at his blog at the Seattle Times. It sounds like Baker was just speculating, though I agree with his reasoning that Brandon Maurer is making a pretty big jump and the team might change course quickly if things aren't working out. The article mentioned Jeremy Bonderman as well as Danny Hultzen as a possible replacement. (Mike Gianella)
2013-04-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)What pitchers have you had most fun analyzing? Is there anybody that's debuted this year that you've identified as having an interesting or "novel" repertoire?
(Lucas Apostoleris from Amherst, MA)
For better or worse, I like Jeff Samardzija's data and he developed; Darvish is maddening but really amazing stuff. Newbies this year... I like what we saw of Hiram Burgos in the WBC. Brandon Maurer looks good, and of course Jose Fernandez... (Harry Pavlidis)
2013-03-27 20:00:00 (link to chat)Whats your opinion on Brandon Maurer? Draftable in a 12 or 14 team H2H category mixed leagues? What about dynasty value? Would you take a flier on him over guys like Worley, Griffin, Kendrick? Thanks!
(Bryce Liesemer from Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
I wouldn't be drafting Maurer in 12 or 14 team mixed leagues. Dynasty leagues, sure, and I'd rather have him in that format than Kendrick or Worley. (Bret Sayre)
2013-03-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)It looks like Brandon Maurer is going to win a rotation spot with the Mariners. What are your expectations for him this year and beyond?
(Jim from Seattle)
I've never seen him live, but I'd rather him than Jon Garland given where in the "cycle" that team is right now. I'm not sure his spot will survive when the big horses come charging from the minors with Walker, Paxton et al, but give him a shot this year. (Zachary Levine)
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat)Thanks for answering my other questions, Mark. If you don't mind, I'd love your opinion on another batch of pitching prospects - the next step down from the group I gave you earlier. If you had to order Brandon Maurer, Clayton Blackburn, Roberto Osuna, Henry Owens, Lance McCullers, how would you do that? Thanks again!
(BJ from Boston)
That's a pretty diverse group, BJ. My gut instinct would be to go Blackburn, Osuna, McCullers, Owens, Maurer, but I reserve the right to change that in the future! (Mark Anderson)
