2014-03-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)Have a favorite pick you've made in the reliever draft thus far? Didn't make it into your league so can't see your roster.
(Alex from Milwaukee)
My league is in the middle of the 13th round. My 12 picks so far:

Craig Kimbrel
Grant Balfour
Junichi Tazawa
Kevin Siegrist
Craig Stammen
Will Smith
Carlos Martinez
Adam Ottavino
Wade Davis
Manny Parra
Heath Hembree
Santiago Casilla

(For anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about, Sam is running a reliever-only fantasy league with Effectively Wild listeners. Only categories are runs allowed and strikeouts, and only relief innings count.) (Ben Lindbergh)
2014-02-18 14:00:00 (link to chat)Last year the Cardinals LHP looked barren. This year they had Kevin Siegrist and drafted Marco Gonzales and Rob Kaminsky and had Tim Cooney take a step forward. What gives?
(Bubba from St. Louis)
They felt like having a farm system with no weaknesses, I suppose. This is what they do. (Ronit Shah)
2013-09-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Kevin Siegrist, do the Cardinals really need another high-powered "fire-balling beast"?
(jlarsen from Chicagoland)
No. No they do not. Signed, a Cubs fan. (Harry Pavlidis)
2013-07-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)Going into this season, BP and just about everyone else had Kevin Siegrist pegged as a marginal LH pitching prospect with a high-80s fast ball that probably wouldn't be enough for a career. Now he's a fire-breathing dragon who devours LH and RH hitters alike with a heater in the mid 90s. What changed? Just strength, or a mechanics thing? (Bonus question: if the latter, how many other marginal pitching prospects might benefit greatly from the same tweak, whatever it was?)
(Bill from New Mexico)
To be honest, I had not seen Siegrist before this season, so I am not sure what changed. What I can say is that he has some of the Felix reverse-twist into max leg lift, and though he doesn't uncoil with crazy ferocity, he is able to finish with excellent momentum. He uses a closed stride that directs him toward the left-hand batter's box, but he is able to line up his rotation despite the odd pattern (some guys do this naturally). This is only a guess, but I would say that he probably learned to line up the gears of his odd stride and timing pattern, and he creates strong torque with his timing of trunk rotation allowing the hips to open and increase hip-shoulder separation.
