2014-01-17 10:00:00 (link to chat)Which 1B prospects do you like more and why out of CJ Cron, Dominic Smith and Matt Olson. Personally I like Cron for his power potential and low K%, I like his chances to find better pitches to swing at.
(MoenPDC from Boston MA)
I think Dom Smith has the best chance to hit, but I'm not really a fan of 1B prospects, especially ones that are on dimensional power bats with suspect hit tools. Dom Smith is more hard contact than power. I'd take that over Cron all day long. (Jason Parks)
2013-11-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kept Matt Olson out of the A's top 10? The power seems legit
(Jack from Atlanta)
There's certainly power in the bat, but there's a lot of work to be done for him to access it against more advanced pitching. The swing needs work. The approach needs work. As a first-base only type, he's not Top 10 material in a solid system until the bat really starts to prove there is some legitimacy to it. (Mark Anderson)
2013-11-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are you thoughts about Matt Olson? Will he progress in the Cal League or will it lead to more questions than answers?
(Chris from Phoenix)
I touched on Olson earlier. His success in the Cal League will depend largely on what they do with his swing and how he approaches his at-bats mentally. He needs work in both areas. If he makes adjustments to those areas with success, he is a candidate to put up big numbers in that league. If he doesn't, the questions are going to come fast and furious. That said, I don't think he's a lock to move on to the Cal League to start next season. (Mark Anderson)
2013-11-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)What other prospects were considered for the Oakland top 10?
(Pat from Oakland )
The names you see on the list is the bulk of the names that were discussed. There were passing discussions of Dustin Driver, Chris Kohler, Edwin Diaz, Matt Olson, and a few others; the discussion was pretty focused looking back on it. (Mark Anderson)
2013-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Matt Olson: .225/.326/.435 with 23 HRs as a 19 year old in the Midwest League. Step forward or back?
(Zack from Boston)
I'd call it a bit of a step back because, when I saw him in the AZL last summer, I thought there was a more advanced feel to hit with decent power. The reports I've heard on how his body developed this year weren't great. He and Renato Nunez both took a slight step back this year with Daniel Robertson impressing and flying slightly under the radar. (Jason Cole)
2013-04-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)Who's a decent bet at 1b/3b for power and avg? I like cj cron at 1b but he's blocked 6 ways from Sunday and like joey gallo but contact seems to be an issue. Help a brother out lol
(jquinton82 from ny)
Depends on who's available in your league. Vogelbach? Matt Adams? If you need a deep sleeper how about Matt Olson? (R.J. Anderson)
